Nice instrument! I have a hubcap guitar built by Don! It's sweet! Thanks for the honesty! Our builds are seldom perfect but we always want to do better! Constructive feedback is always appreciated!

I'm not sure how that neck was mounted but another option would have been to "push" the neck out a bit and leave the bridge where it was. So cool to see the ideas of others. Maybe I'll get in the swap for next year.

Wow, $54 postage due. You're a good sport for paying that.

Double up those strings! So that you have 3 courses, just like a 3 string CBG, but each course is made up of 2 strings paired together, like a mandolin or 12 string guitar!

That’s awesome Del! The Lord is good! I’m making something similar, but using an air filter housing from a 70’s Vega.

Cool build for sure, but I'm with you on that bridge. I used one of those on a 4 string build, and can see where it is useful with more strings but my typical 3 stringers don't need it.

too right mate !!

Very interesting guitar. It's crazy how far back that bridge had to go and the difference between the 1st and 6th strings. Is there an unusual distance between the thickness of the strings?

Gotta be honest. It should help other builders. No harm done.

This reminds me of my homemade guitar me and my grandpa built when I was 11 I'm 21 now It's my only guitar and main guitar and it'll be going in my grave with me We built my homemade guitar from scratch using only hand tools in my grandpa's garage I use Thomastik flatwound strings We made the pickup it's completely flat it's not bulky so we didn't have to route anything for the takeout we just mounted it on top

hey Del, love your videos - you've been a great help in my new hobby! I've got a quick question for ya: do you put a radius on your fingerboards, or is it kinda useless on a 1.5" 3 string neck?
@OffCenterWoodworks7 ай бұрын
Radius isn’t needed on a 3-4 string. Heck, I’ve got a 1942 Harmony parlor guitar with no radius, just as playable as any other, just more suited to rhythm/ slide style.
@stephendifranco97817 ай бұрын
@@OffCenterWoodworks thanks! What about the frets? The only ones I've found are all curved, but it doesn't seem curved frets would work well on a flat board. I suppose you could just sand them down, though
@OffCenterWoodworks7 ай бұрын
They will flatten out when you press them in. I’ve used precut gets that were pre-radiused and long sticks. Only time you might have an issue is with stainless just because they’re so much hard a material.

@@OffCenterWoodworks ah gotcha, thanks! Do you happen to have any advice for how to clip and sand/file the ends of the frets without damaging the fingerboard? My last guitar I made, the edges of the fretboard got scraped and banged up from getting the frets in shape and I'm trying to figure out how to avoid that

Might have been better to just put a new body on it. Make it your own
