Retired GM dealer tech here, your dad's plugs were original equipment, they have paint on the tips. Easy way to do plugs on those trucks is to pull the front wheels and go in thru the wheel well. Lots of room that way. Right behind the right front wheel by the body mount is a master ground. Replace it. Don't clean it, replace it.

Believe it or not pal snap-on and Mac came out with speciality sockets for doing ls1/ lm4 and lm7 truck plugs they’re a absolute lifesaver for our knuckles

That vacuum hose may go to the blend door that controls heat/AC. Fords from that era had a bad habit of having that hose break off down in between firewall and inner fender. Also loved seeing the warning intro with Gertrude

Thanks man! If you ever have to do the rear wheel bearings? go buy a low mileage rear subframe from the salvage yard, that way you have everything you need....he blue dot on the tip of the spark plug often indicated factory installs...

Happy to help Puddin the explorer vacuum line goes to the heater control valve under the alternator . On Popps truck the original spark plugs will have the end where the boot goes a paint mark .

It's been quite a while since I've had my 02 Tahoe but there is a ground wire (PCM ground) on/by the rear of the intake manifold on a driver side it is slightly buried. When that ground is bad you'll have no gauges and sometimes no start. I soldered on an extra length of wire, grinded off a little paint on the firewall, self tapped it, and put some dielectric grease on it.

I had the same issue of turning the key to the start position and nothing happening, as your Dads Tahoe. All of my googling had me convinced that it was a ground issue as well. Ended up being a bad connection on the signal wire to the starter solenoid. Next time it does that, have someone hold the key in the start position then wiggle the signal wire on the starter solenoid. Really easy to confirm as long as you have two people.

My wifes 02 'vette had it's wires just fall apart suddenly like that. Half of them came apart swapping them out, didn't take much to do it either. I mean, 20 years isn't too bad in a hot engine bay. Thanks for the fun vid Puddin'
