5 Must-Do Things when visiting Puerto Peñasco- Rocky Point Mexico. Puerto Peñasco is on the beautiful Sea of Cortez and is one of Mexico's best kept vacation and destination secrets. Arizonan's affectionately call this place "Arizona's Beach" due it's close proximity to Phoenix. Traveling to Rocky Point, Puerto Penasco, Mexico is an easy 4 hour drive. In 2019, Rocky Point - Puerto Penasco will soon have it's first cruise ship arrive in the newly constructed Puerto Penasco cruise ship port. We are long time visitors to Rocky Point, Mexico and have spent many years enjoying the 6 things highlighted in this video. All come highly recommended. Don't let the media hype scare you away from traveling to Mexico! Puerto Penasco relies heavily on tourism and the people of Rocky Point have gone out of their way to make visitors feel safe!
Recreation and accommodations abound in Puerto Penasco - Rocky Point! Ocean activities, beach activities, resort and RV accommodations are plentiful. We like to stay at Playa Bonita Rv park whenever we visit Rocky Point. This used to be a quiet shrimping village that has grown significantly in the last 30 years; however, the Mexican beaches are clean, the accommodations are outstanding and the restaurants and bars are dishing out fun and enjoyment. Puerto Penasco's water is a turquoise blue and the beaches are a light, soft colored sand. You can find vendors selling everything from Mexican Pina Colada's to Blankets on the beach. If you're hungry, just wait, someone selling authentic Mexican empanadas or burritos will be by to satisfy your hunger. This one of the nicest and cleanest Mexican Beaches around.
We've been coming to Rocky Point - Puerto Penasco for over 40 years and have seen the growth take place in this sleepy village. Most of all, we've seen how accommodating and welcoming the Mexican citizens of Puerto Penasco have been to all visitors. We are full time RV'ers and made this our first stop on our full time RV journey. The best times to visit Rocky Point are May and October, but the rest of the year is good too. It's a true gem and one of Mexico's best kept secrets! We hope you'll enjoy coming to Puerto Penasco, Rocky Point, Mexico as much as we do and we look forward to the first cruise ship to arrive in Rocky Point.
Our favorite hangouts in Rocky Point are: JJ's Cantina, Manny's Beach Club and Wrecked at the Reef.

It’s too late. I grew up in Phoenix. I guess we started camping on Sandy Beach in the late 60s through the 70s. There were no condos or hotels. Not a building in sight. There was actually a great coral reef that would collect sea life in the tide pools when the tide was out. Our favorite thing to do was go out the reef with lanterns at night. It was filled with starfish sea cucumbers, octopus, all sorts of fun stuff when your a kid. I believe the reef was largely dynamited to clear it for the tourists. We’d have campfires on the beach at night and set off fireworks. All the kids got sparklers. in the morning, Carlos would walk through the campers and trailers with tortillas made that morning at the tortillaria in town ….either puerto penasco or from cholla bay. You would have to go into town to get your fish at the fishmarket on the tip of the point. Stop at the bakery. IMO ….what was Rocky point is ruined. but I guess it’s all relative to your past experience there. I suppose it’s better for the locals and the economy……or is being a maid at a hotel really progress. I dunno. Anyway. 🙁

Went there in 1989. I remember the dirt roads and the children that would wash your windows. They were so happy to get pocket change. A case of Corona was only 5 USD. We slept on the beach and traded American water for food and clothes.

People down there are fantastic 👍 You can get great deals of course at the market...but also the processing plant. It's more consistent with size and type of shrimp wether it be white/tiger/red etc. Also, if you dig tequilas! They have a plant down there and it's super cheap, like 13 USD or was and it legit is the best for price and taste. Rivals even your premium tequilas.

Theresa Segovia Yes we do! In fact, it is required under Mexican law for any vehicle operated there. We use Lewis & Lewis Insurance Agency, but there are several other good insurance carriers as well. Check with your insurance company to see if they have a third-party carrier that they work with or recommend. FYI...it is unlikely that your US insurance policy will cover you in Mexico because Mexico has specific liability and comprehensive coverage requirements.

When we used to go to Rocky Point you could rent a gun locker at the Why Convenience Store in Why, AZ. It is just south of the city of Ajo on highway 85. I don't remember the cost but it was reasonable. One yr my dad just walked out into the desert at a mile marker and buried his revolver and ammo in a trash bag and the retrieved it on the way home(don't recommend that method but it worked for him, you had to know my dad).
