Northumberland is, in my opinion, the most stunning and photogenic county in the whole of the UK. And Seahouses is the jewel in that crown. We were lucky enough to see the puffins on Inner Farne a couple of years ago. An Arctic Tern attacked my shotgun mic. And a Puffin ran over Elaine's shoe on its mission to cross the duckboards. You're right, one hour is not enough time on the island. I was running round like a mad man trying to film as much as I could. Fun fact, which I never really noticed before, but when you watch the tide cover the Holy Island Causeway, there are no waves. I never realised this, till somebody pointed it out to me.

Fantastic footage and shots. Were you shooting from a blind? I don't have a lens with that reach so bird shots are a bit out of the question at the moment. How versatile do you find the 150-600? Trying to find a reason to add it to my camera bag 🙂
@wildandfreevictoria7 ай бұрын
Thank you! I appreciate it! And when you say “shooting from a blind?” Do you mean from a hide? If so, nope. On the Farne Island you walk around and hope for the best to see something close. Lots of areas are restricted - as expected, the puffins make burrows so people would easily step in them. I find the 150-600mm very versatile, i’ve used it for a mixture of shoots now - mainly wildlife but you can do other things like landscape and portraits. The only thing is it is a fixed length so is quite big to carry around - that’s my only thing I would say 🙂

Victoria, do You think Canon 100-500 FF lens would be enough there or still too short? Cuz You had available like 900mm ff equivalent. I’m just thinking if go with Canon or Fuji hehe some day there
@wildandfreevictoria6 ай бұрын
No I think you will be fine, it all depends on the day and where the birds are at. If you go at peak season then there will be more birds and more chances of them being closer. The first time I went to the Farne Islands I went with my 100-400mm and they were some of the best shots i’ve got! 🙂
@mike.k6 ай бұрын
@@wildandfreevictoria thank You for nice answer hehe, and also aperture darker than f7.1 is a bit ridiculous for me… I know it’s possible to take good shots even with f9 and good lighting but… I just tried once that ff Canon rf100-500 f4.5-7.1 and it was very sharp, clear and no ca at all. But if it’s too short I can always just rent Fuji 150-600 hehe also…. Yup I like Canon and recently I like Fuji too!
@berdel7 ай бұрын
Hey I wonder if you managed to find a Polarizer filter that actually works with the 150-600 ??? last couple filters I´ve tried they mush the image when you zoom :( its the only lens I have experienced this ever.
@wildandfreevictoria7 ай бұрын
Hello! I don’t actually own one yet for the 150-600mm just have one for my 23mm but i would like one. Although, i am not too sure how practical it would be with the length of lens. And I know what you mean about the mush of an image, last year when I used this lens I was borrowing it from Fuji and they put a UV filter on it and that did the same! At first I thought it was a shutter speed/movement issue so I kept increasing the shutter speed but it still happened - so I removed the filter and realised it was an issue with that. So it’s part of the reason why I have purchased one yet. I do have a polarpro filter so I could look at get the base adjustment for the thread of the 150-600, but I will let you know! 🙂
@berdel7 ай бұрын
@@wildandfreevictoria thanks! thats also why I havent dared to buy more filters to keep trying xD , I wasnt sure if it was a filter quality issue or that the lens just doesn't support them . I assumed it supported them as the hood has this little window to rotate the filters.
@wildandfreevictoria7 ай бұрын
It is a bit of a conundrum! To be honest, for a while I haven’t shot a telephoto with a filter. Even the 200mm I left open as I just feel they cause too much problems (depending on the angle of the sun). I don’t know if it causes almost like a reflection of the image in the glass or an issue with the AF due to that separation with the filter but I don’t like using them. I think a CP filter would be great to use - especially in conditions like this was in the sun, sea and puffins but i am still a bit reluctant! 😄
@berdel6 ай бұрын
@@wildandfreevictoria so I continued my polarizer quest and finally found a nice filter to use with it, its a Marumi Exus CPL, it was a bit expensive for me 😅 but hey it works, it doesnt break the image and enhances colors very nicely 👍
