Sam Raimi had lost the rights to the footage for the previous film as it had been produced by a different company, hence why they retconed some of the events of the previous movie to make it only that Ash and his girlfriend went to the cabin. They also made this violence more comedic compared to the last movie to help the movie get an r rating rather than an nc-17

Fun fact, the reason the pretty piano music in this movie that Ash plays is called "Ash's Dream" is because everything up to him screaming in his chair was him dreaming roughly about the events of Evil Dead 1, but forgetting his friends and focusing on his dead girlfriend. Everything up to the panic attack in the rocking chair didn't "happen a second time," and he never "went back to the cabin." He was just passed out from head injuries, a possession attempt and lack of sleep. This movie's Linda is meant to be part 1's Linda. According to Bruce Campbell, you're MEANT to remove all opening credits and ending sequences from these first three movies and kind of glue them together in to one single 3 and a half hour horror comedy adventure. Here's hiow to do it: Take the book intro from Evil Dead 2, put it at the start of Evil Dead 1. Now remove all further credits from the rest of the movies. Where Evil Dead ends, pick up on Ash in Evil Dead 2 being thrown through the forest. Here he gets sucked through the portal, start on the beginning of Army of Darkness. There, the whole "first part" of this story is really just one long movie released in three chunks throughout the 80s and 90's. TA-DA! I have this cut myself! It's awesome although you DO watch Ash age over like 12 years in one movie which is fine when you remember the demon in the door from Evil Dead 2 turns Ash's hair white, so maybe he DID get older canonically. These movies are fun!

I'd highly recommend the Evil Dead TV show ( only 3 seasons, 10eps/season) it continues the blood, gore and comedy the movies establish. A fun and entertaining ride!! Loving the channel, your videos are so much fun to watch!

Bruce Campbell, the Ash guy was beautiful AF in the Charmed Season 4 episode when he played an evil fake FBI agent in like 2002. Guys like him weren't attractive at all when they were like 25 but then they turned into super insane ultra beauty at like 55 just because they age like 3 more decades imo. Like Griffin Dunne in An American werewolf in London. He got infinity times more attractive after that movie.

27:42 One of my favorite scenes. I love how the camera zooms in on all those tiny details and how the sounds are so exaggerated. I love the campy music score that builds as he saws the shotgun. When he does that cool little shotgun twirl you know he's ready to take care of business. Oh, and I love the way he sales that cheesy iconic one word line "Groovy." 😊 You know it's about to go down.

The rights to show scenes from the original could not be obtained to recap what happened, so the beginning was remade to explain how Ash (Bruce Campbell) got to the cabin. Several KZbinrs have been misled on this and have been tricked into watching this movie first. Smoking Effect Fact: The smoke that comes from the chainsaw is actually tobacco smoke. Sam Raimi rigged tubing to the back of the chainsaw, hid off-camera and blew cigarette smoke through the tube to create the effect. Tit-For-Tat Fact: A glove belonging to Freddy Krueger character can be seen hanging above the door of the tool shed when Ash (Bruce Campbell) carves his girlfriends head with a chainsaw and when he's looking for the pages in the later cellar scenes. This was in response to the use of The Evil Dead (1981) on a television screen in A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984).

The first time I saw Evil Dead 2 and the next film Army of Darkness was in college and damn it was such a blast. Definitely unforgettable and all around an excellent time. In case you would be interested, the tv series Ash vs Evil Dead takes place many years after Evil Dead 2, it doesn't follow up from Army of Darkness due to the always infamous "didn't have the rights" issue. Season 1 is solid, season 2 was a mixed bag for me, but season 3 was probably the best season of the whole series.

Not one clip was from army of darkness. That’s why the extent of what Ash says at remembering time travel was possible was that he went back in time to the medieval era. That is because that is all that you see at the end of evil dead 2.
