Hi Steve - Two members of The Posies joined the 90's version of Big Star ..so makes sense that both wouldn't resonate with you. When working at Arista , I marketed that Dreams So Real album. We had just broke The Church with Starfish & were excited about Dreams So Reals prospects but it stiffed. It's a good record. Clive really liked them & let them do a follow-up that also stiffed. The only 💿 I question purging is that Scritti Politti ..perhaps its badly dated. I to haven't played mine in years & have long since traded the follow-up. Happy St.Patricks Day ☘️ !

hey david. yeh scritti politti i bought years ago for perfect way which i liked back in 80s. but rest of album just didnt do anything for me at all. aside from the title track nothing else on the dreams so real album really stood out. good but i didn’t feel like i needed to hold onto it. thanks for tuning in dude. always enjoy your comments. hope ya enjoy the holiday.

I used to work in the music industry, so in addition to the enormous amount of CDs I purchased, I also received many things for free. At one point my collection easily surpassed 6,500 CDs. I probably had an over 300 boxsets. It was a chore just to find a specific album or decide what to listen to. About 10 years ago I realized there were discs I only kept for 1-2 songs, I really didn’t listen to anymore, or were things I just didn’t like. So, I started the process of downsizing my collection. It was satisfying then, and continues to be satisfying now. First, I started with the genres that weren’t my favorites, things like Jazz and Country. Next were various artist collections and soundtracks. Amazing how many songs were repeated on collections multiple times. My comedy albums have been reduced to a handful of titles. It’s amazing how things that were once timely & funny, now did nothing for me. I enjoy my collection so much more now. I can find what I want to listen to very easily and feel my collection is now lean and mean. I’m currently at less than 1,400 discs. Still plenty of variety and room for extensive discographies of my favorite artists.

hey thanks for tuning in. everything you said totally hits home with me. even after a few months i still feel so glad i did this. and it's funny cause a year ago if you asked me if I would ever think to get rid of some I would've said "no" before you even finished asking. I like the idea of starting with genres. I really don't have any country and jazz is very limited.... but comedy. I think what you say about old comedy records is so on point. I've pulled out some classics to listen to now and yeah there's a lot that just doesn't do it for me anymore. Really appreciate ya tuning in and sharing your story. Thanks!

I’ll be purging my vinyl collection this year as well. I’m looking forward to it and I’m not looking forward to it. That’s what I like about food, I make and eat I don’t collect it. Farewell to all who didn’t make the cut. Have a great day Steve! 😎

hahah true chef. now ya got me thinking of those famous churros again. im still holding off on purging the vinyl. obviously i dont have as much of it as CDs. I think I have a little over 250 vinyl records. but even in that there are a lot i have both CD and vinyl and dont really need both. sometime this year i’m sure i’ll purge a few vinyl. i know it seems kinda scary but i never second guessed any of this really. anyway thanks for tuning in, always great hearing from ya.

Hi Steve! Never knew who did the original Stagger Lee, until now. Patty dragged me to see Sarah McLachlan over 20 years ago. For whatever reason, I actually bought that Spin Doctors CD at the time. I think I still have it. Spacehog is actually pretty good as I recall. I have Rank and always thought it sounded horrible. I should get rid of my copy as well in my next purge. Thanks in advance for thinking of me Steve. Watch your inbox for an Evite soon for my summer party. Have a good week! ✌

Cool concept - the only ones I have are Appetite For Destruction, Styx Greatest Hits, Lucinda Williams West (I'm a fan of hers - her I would keep if you have her other albums), Indigo Girls Retrospective (I'm a fan of theirs), The Posies collection, Big Star #1 / Radio Star (that's a great CD), I'm glad to see you kept Primitive Cool from Mick Jagger - I know that album great on you - especially Let's Work. In a way, this video made me feel better about my nuttiness, that I have to listen to a new purchase, typically five times before it gets onto my shelves and database. Reverse Purging - probably 30% of my purchases never make it.
@STEVEHEROLD8 ай бұрын
hahah. Primitive Cool has its own shelf with a spotlight on it at all times. adopting the Rosenberg Method for adding stuff to the shelf would be a good idea for the future I think.

I'm working on a purge as well. Something I thought I would never do. I'm starting with my jazz albums. If they have condition issues or I haven't played them in years, they are going. STP and the Smiths; you may regret.😒 Very nice of you to send those titles off to Shaun. He's a great guy! Cheers.

yeh i never thought i’d do this either but its been a few months and i dont know what it is but im really happy i did this and hope it becomes an annual thing. im not a big live album fan so i think thats why the smiths CD almost never gets a listen. i think even when i bought it i didnt realize it was a live record as was disappointed it was. thanks for tuning in mark!

Can’t believe you never did a purge, you have all your music digitize?! Having physical media does take work to maintain but it’s always worth it. Love how my collection feels after I made some room, lots of new possibilities! I’m a Lykke Li fan but haven’t heard that album, the preview didn’t catch me when it came out . I think that’s her break up album 😂 “so sad”
@STEVEHEROLD7 ай бұрын
i never ever thought i would do this. but im so glad i did. i shouldve thought to reach out to ya to see if ya wanted any of this haul. that lykke li was a bummer. i like her first two albums but this one just didnt click w me at all.

I used to have that Judybats CD. I guess I didn't like it either. The Smiths! Radical decision there 😮
@STEVEHEROLD8 ай бұрын
😂…. yeh i really expected that Judybats CD to be a lot better. but other than the song “saturday” i dont think i liked anything on it. i thought i might get some heat for the Smiths. just not a big live album fan and that one ive never had much desire to listen to. thanks for tuning in brian.

I remember you showing me some of those CDs when you sent me the Rancid disc a few months ago. I did select a few from you but I have the same problem. I've probably have 50 CDs that I don't listen to or need anymore, we all do!
@STEVEHEROLD8 ай бұрын
yup those CDs i sent you were part of this purge. if i had unlimited funds i wouldve offered them up to some more people on here. im surprised how good i feel about getting rid of them. hoping this becomes an annual thing.
@BryersMusicShowcase8 ай бұрын
I'm sure some day I'll do something like that. Not yet at least! Those are some interesting CDs you showed, most of them I haven't heard before. Thanks again for the CDs you sent me! 😄

I used to own that Spin Doctors album too, I got it at a goodwill because I liked 2 songs (Two Princes and Little Miss Can't Be Wrong).... after listening to the CD, I still only liked 2 songs lol I got rid of that one like 10 years ago lol I suppose I can forgive you for purging Stone Temple Pilots lol
@STEVEHEROLD8 ай бұрын
yeh the days of just buying stuff cause its so cheap and i liked one song on it are kinda over for me. something just snapped when i did this purge.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity91478 ай бұрын
Big Star took a couple d3cades for me to get and then it clicked. It is not easy to purge but like you I have found as I was packing up albums why take it with me since after three years I have not played it again. Some of the albums had value but I want a coll3ction I want to listen to and not about value
@davidkunzli6808 ай бұрын
I always regret when I get rid of stuff. At 70 some this shit needs to go. That goes for other stuff too. Glad you are dumping Styx😂 You should have kept the Big Star. Do you ever sell your stuff to a store? I have done that. Get next to nothing for them. Donating allows someone to hear something cheap and you are helping people in need. Ultimately, I purge about as much as Mr. Rosenberg does😂🤣
@STEVEHEROLD8 ай бұрын
hahah i guess you’re no fan of styx. i know everyone loves big star but ive had that CD for a long time and listened to it a bunchs times and for the most part it’s just never clicked with me. even after watching that doc about the band. i dont bother bringing these to stores to sell cause like u said they’ll give me nothing if they even take them. a few i had that i thought maybe would sell on ebay i listed but they didnt sell… so rather just donate. thanks for tuning in dude. always appreciate it.

Big mistake! If you like anything on it, keep it. If you turnover more than 2% of your collection, you are bringing in too much especially if paying retail.
@STEVEHEROLD8 ай бұрын
oh no dorian i dont pay retail (unless its something by a favorite band.) all of these were used. most cost me $1-2 originally. those prices are why i took the chance on a lot of these and they turned out not to be something i wanted to keep. if there’s anything i like on these its generally one song. but i get where you’re coming from. this video just posted but i actually did this 4-5 months ago and still have no regrets. appreciate ya tuning in.
