I know what you're saying bro, I grew up on a horse ranch, so we used trucks for you know, truck stuff. I don't get how they became so flippin popular as an everyday vehicle for so many flippin people?! I've personally seen 3 lady's driving new, extended cab, 8ft bed truck's back into other car's! Now why would you want to drive something so flippin long for an everyday vehicle? Vehicles that these soccer moms obviously can't drive, also would seem to me to be an inconvenience actually, I mean you gotta have 48ft to park the thing's in a parking lot. Then they NEVER actually put anything in the bed of it ever, the beds are generally covered one way or another so that you couldn't throw anything back there anyways besides a bag of groceries or something. I just don't get it, if ya want 4wd, drive an SUV for god sakes! Leave the truck's for the farm!

Excellent video Luke :) yes those Ford old trucks run excellent even 390 are like General Motors 350 and 454 also Dodge 318, 360 , 440 V8 plus Manual transmission Creeper 4'S with 409 to 411 are excellent combination together! There like playing Tug Of War when kids see who fall down ! My old 1972 Ford F350 had 390 FE 4Vavles each cylinder 4 bolt main , 4 barrel Carb with a Hand Choke knob dash Creeper 4 speed Manual transmission floor shifter put in with racing clutch, made 4×4 with 410 rear end gears never let me down tow truck vechile in any season ever! Add 2 other tanks in frame besides back seat tank too buy 3 switches too! Plus 24 volt Negative ground battery system too ! For cold start key off I would pump gas pedal 8 times , choke out same time and crank motor 2 times then pump gas pedal 2 more time and 2 one to catch than easy gas pedal off 1500 RPM to 1000 to 850 RPM let 1/4 on push choke too till ran nice then warm engine for 15 mins in Winters Seasons ! Bought the truck in 1993 for $1,500 certified ran till 2005 then rebuilt motor, carb , Transmission and everything then sold after got $15.000 for it ! Try sell to my one Brother David for Construction business but he said was get brand new truck instead and he would love gotten to years later told me but thought was not tough enough Lol ! But he knew I got lots miles on and worn but was not!

Had 340, 000 on my Ford Ranger 4 banger when she gave up the ghost. Longest Mileage Truck I ever owned, funny thing is I used Mobil 1 in this truck and followed Smoky Yunicks instructions on just change the oil filter and add another quart of Mobil 1 to fill the oil filter every 3000 miles and done that till the day she died, but she did have 2 complete oil changes at 100,000 and 200,000, maybe I should of given that old Ford another oil change at 300,000 miles. Sometimes I think of that, but wanted a new truck the driver seat was all worn out.

Always put a jacket or tarp over the chain when you pull anything. I pulled a bunch of t-posts using the spare tire. One was stuck good and suddenly broke free then fly into the back of the truck like a spear! Left a deep impact in the tailgate. A little higher could have come through the back glass. Also horses are good with 3 strands of smooth and 2 electric. They respect electric unlike cows or pigs.

Shaft mounted rocker arms which do not break. They aren’t “stamped steel” type rocker arms. They’re all mounted on one shaft thereby removing the need to adjust valve lash. That’s two variables removed right there, rocker arms will not break, and no adjustments. Great oiling system, especially the bottom end, rarely will have any premature bearing failure unless grossly neglected, and even then, a spun bearing is rare in these engines. “Lugging” the engine is the only serious risk, as with any older engine with very low oil pressure at low RPMs, but 390s have reasonable pressure even at idle. By lugging I mean very high demand, lots of fuel but low vacuum cause the throttle plate is wide open, but ultimately low engine RpM means bearings can’t retain that precious film of oil under heavy load and low RPMS, which CAN, but doesn’t always, but can squeeze out the oil when it’s most needed, scoring the end of the rod where the most pressure is on the big end bearing, and on the main journals as well, especially at just the right spots in the firing cycle. That’s very often how engines used to tow heavy loads gain excessive bearing clearance. Lugging is bad. Downshift that mofo or give it a break. A little tire spin is often better for an engine than zero and heavy load. STANDING RULE: SOMETHING HAS GOT TO GIVE. Let it be the tires, always. Slipping the clutch at heavy loads is a great way to catch fire down below. If it just ain’t happening from idle, give it some water or dirt under the tires and let it get some RPMs. You might not move but you’re not destroying your engine in slow motion. Displacement is king with heavy loads. You think they make 6 liter straight six diesel engines for the hell of it? Straight six makes most bottom end torque, rpm for rpm. Jeep 4.0 liter anyone? My 4.0 liter Grand Cherokee was better off the line pulling the same trailer than my 5.3 liter Suburban. Just to 20mph but noticeably better. Not sure what gear the 2004 GC had but the Burban has a 3.73, not exactly a slouch off the line either.
