@MASSIVEsock3 жыл бұрын
I started with an FC s4 and just sold my 90k km s1 rx8, as fucking dope as fc's are, the rx8 while being ugly is seriously an insane car... the chassis is mental on the limit, mine had a extend ported rebuild with some additional balancing/doweling etc. to safely get up to 10500 rpm. Absolute thrill to drive and own, I heavily regret having to sell it, go an rx8 if you don't care about the stigma
@feenyx63943 жыл бұрын
@@MASSIVEsock Thanks so much for the input! I don't mind the stigma at all, I've driven some oddball cars over the years already :D And I've heard they handle great even from factory, although a used one in 2021 could probably use a few suspension upgrades. What I'm most curious about is ease of working on/getting parts for the Renesis compared to the older 13Bs.
@MASSIVEsock3 жыл бұрын
@@feenyx6394 For sure, I just replaced my tired shocks/springs with some new mid/high end coilovers, everything else was great. The engine wont matter, parts for anything after a s4 13b turbo engine is all about the same for seals/rotors/housings is readily availbale new or second hand in ALOT of shops throughout the world, I'm in australia and they're super easy to get parts for any rotary that is a 13b essentially. As a rx8 owner (2nd owner at 176k miles) with (190k miles on the clock 2nd engine went in at 166k miles) I'll tell you straight up. Rx8s are really about luck or deep pockets u gotta have at least one or you will hate them. Same goes for most rotaries but know the renesis isn't a great motor. It has a shorter lifespan than the other 13bs (contrary to the previous owner's luck) and more issues that are a bit harder to remedy. They are comfortable, sporty, "4 door" and 4 seat cars but they can have a lot of issues with them. I've been talking with a racing rotary shop engine builder who's been in the business for over 3 decades and he says the renesis motor is rlly shit. U can't build them for power easily or cheaply, you have a lot of failures from the factories where the engines were built, catalytic converter failure (like mine), solenoid issues, a lot of wiring harness issues due to engine and transmission heat, weak starters, weak ignition systems, oil in your intake due to the routing of the vaccum line on your oil fill cap neck which will gunk up your ssv and other valves in your intake manifold (there are 3) and the parts for the rx8 aren't necessarily cheap. Either way you have a lot to deal with and work on when you get a rotary, but if you plan on building yours for a bit more power and still being a daily I'd say the fc is the way to go. They can out handle rx8s if you invest in the right suspension mods, but you want to pick them up with relatively low miles. I'd say tops 60k on the current engine and an owner who knows what they r doing. Obviously someone who premixes and uses higher weight oils when appropriate is gonna get more life out of the engine but they also need to know how to start it, drive it, and shut it down. (the engine needs to warm up to a certain point before driving, the engine needs to be beat a good amount of the time, the car shouldn't be shutdown cold unless it is revved beyond a certain rpm, the car should be revved a little to prevent flooding on shutdown, and the list goes on and on.) I've put $1700 into my rx8 that I picked up for 4500 with an engine that had 10k miles on it. I was told the coils were done last year and the clutch was done 3 years ago and the car wasn't driven much. The car needed an oil change, new ignition system, ssv (which I just cleaned with seafoam), tires, brakes(incl a fluid flush), suspension, intake system since it had a lot of oil in it, catalytic converter (failed about 10k miles later and wasn't original), transmission fluid which was brown and very sparkly (not uncommon for a manual car but you don't want everything to be grinded to shit), new computer module for the lights and electric assists(ended up fixing itself), xenon headlights (ballasts were bad so I needed entirely new headlights or would've had to learn how to take the entire headlight apart and replace the ballast) and a few other things I can't remember. Hmu if you want more details or help.

On first gen RX8, if you press Stability Control button, it will stop the stupid electronic weighted steering making it easier to steer. If you press and hold down the Stability Control button for 6 whole seconds, it will turn off Traction Control. With Traction Control ON, the RX8's ECU will kill the power to avoid spinning the tires; it's more evasive than you think like really killing the power and will piss you off if there's a gap and you need to get on the power quick to enter said gap. With Traction Control OFF, you can get on the power, spin the tires and do what it's suppose to do. Surely the second gen RX8 is the same with the Stability Control button.
