Pulp - This Is Hardcore | Reaction!

You know a song's gonna be good when the opening lyrics are "You are harcore, you make me hard". Nick Banks opens the track with a head-bopping beat, the piano from Candida Doyle sounds sultry, and Jarvis makes some eye-opening comparisons in the lyrics. I can imagine the pressure the band was under to follow up "Different Class".

I have been WAITING for you to get to this one. This one is right up your alley in terms of Jarvis being perfectly sleazy. This may have been the first song I heard from Pulp, and I was hooked immediately.

This was the song that encapsulated the feeling of collective exhaustion at the end of Britpop, just a kind of 'the party's over and it's taken its toll' vibe. The whole album is great.

Pulp tuesdays are back! Yay! I think it was a good choice to just listen to this one for the first time, because the video can be distracting. However, it's a really good video, so do watch it now that you've already heard the song. The whole album is great, so there's room for some really good reactions in the future.

I disagree with « sleazier than » although I see what you mean. As I see it, SB is not only the apex of Pulp, it’s the song (and the moments it relates to) I’ll probably remember when I see my life flashing before my eyes. I can’t even listen to it now. It’s like being thrown to the tigers in the middle of the night while the comet flies across the sky and Neneh Cherry somehow is there? Okay so I just called my best mate P. about this and it came flooding back: nights on the tiles, the monochrome tiles of my apt on V st., seems so long ago. Here in the night…

As a rule of thumb, if it's from the '80s or '90s - _watch the video._ "This Is Hardcore" features one of the best videos ever made - certainly, of the Britpop era.

Nice video, i enjoyed it very much, reminded me when i first listened to the song, except for me was a live version of 2012 and seeing Jarvis singing this song is a funny experience haha. it would be great if you try and listen "Dishes" or "Bad Cover Version" altho that should be in two parts, the album version first and then the videoclip version haha.
