I keep my boom off the driver side all the time but i know I'm safe to the front of cab off the passenger side. What i do (Alliance pump) is grab the stack valve and override the limit switch hydraulicly and then hang a piece of caution tape out the door for the stack valves to remind myself to put it back on the driver side

I was genuinely scared first time I was out with a 50m pumpe. Up in 5th floor, seeing the 5th, 4th and 3rd boom coming onto the 5th floor was terrifying, then there was the question about the hiehgt, as the terrain sloped down from the building, making the 5th floor about 23m + or something meter straight down on one side, and the pump rigged up many meters away from the building, and off course everything was happening over the cab, between the front legs, so the pump started to lift on the rear, making it very unstable. So when I was standing on the floor, looking to the direction of the pump, and seeing how the mast was coming down, and the last two massive sections coming in, was not good for my psychic health that day.

Definitely the my favourite stuff. I find the delay-powder type products just aren’t potent enough for mud that’s already “on its way”. This recover is nice in that unlike sugar, a small/calculated dose can be used to slow the mud down, rather than killing it completely.

Same here. Only time we have issues with pulling just one sponge on the smaller booms is with high cement ratio and/or high chemical mixes. Most of what we do with these 40M and smaller booms, one sponge is just fine. We call that slight layer of cream "free prime" for the next job! 🤣🤣🤣

Strict manufacturer rule for this machine is "all the way in, or all the way out" for these telescoping front legs. Some of the new Putz machines have fully reinforced outrigger structure which allows for partial extension, this 2017 model however does not. Our local safety authority here will actually write you up for partial extension if you cannot provide them written manufacturers documentation stating it is allowable. Always all the way in or all the way out for telescoping outrigger stages unless stated otherwise by the manufacturer.

We have a fella here in Milwaukee that only learns from y.t...thus why i made the initial comment above. @canadianconcretepumper1979
@canadianconcretepumper1979 2 ай бұрын
Absolutely Greg. Most every time we have a guy roll back into the yard with a sponge stuck in the boom, it’s because he didn’t get the boom completely empty before flooding out in front of that first sponge. Our material is extremely forgiving. As you mentioned, with not so great material I’m sure it could be suicide even with all but the deck-pipe empty. Our policy is one sponge with water followed a second sponge with a few gallons in front of it. I just bend/break the rules because I’m the one who deals with it anyhow.
@greghughey9738
@greghughey9738 2 ай бұрын
@canadianconcretepumper1979 i teach 1 sponge, no water. 2nd sponge is behind a hose FULL of water. If you think it took off pulling your first sponge, wash out whatever is hanging. Put it on bang in reverse, use your hand to build suction,while hose is on blast into said hose, take 4 or 5 strokes like that, then pump off. Steer the gray water into an appropriate area. Repeat 3-4 times, then proceed to 2nd sponge. Completely eliminates sand packed 2nd sponges, means i don't have to deal w stupid f ups
@canadianconcretepumper1979
@canadianconcretepumper1979 2 ай бұрын
@@greghughey9738 so I use that same technique except in a half-full 5 gallon pail when there’s nowhere on site to wash my tip-hose and reducers. I’ll usually have to do it twice over, dumping the dirty water into my hopper in between. That’s good teach Greg. I’m going to say that 99% of pumps rolling back into our yard with a sponge stuck in the boom can be traced back to flooding out in front of that first sponge, and/or not getting the last 2-3 sections of boom completely empty before trying to take the first ball back. The one which drives me crazy is when guys let mud fall down into the tip-elbow and just stuff the sponge in there hoping to god it comes back.

I prefer water second to the rock and sponge the turret to prevent a jam it works almost every other time unless it’s a weekday in a specific month you just never know when things will jam and the turret loves the sponge and water is a natural resource so it’s unpredictable sometimes you need to sponge it twice it all depends. amen brother

Is it not possible to raise the A section all the way with everything else folded and then rotate it around. We do that with our 38-5 putz often when in similar situations
@canadianconcretepumper1979
@canadianconcretepumper1979 2 ай бұрын
Yes, we do the same regularly as well. The issue here was space. The boom would have been into the communications wires (and possibly the neighbouring building) if we had attempted to rotate it in the raised position.

Biggest challenge we have with that is making it back to the washout area without having water come splashing out of the hopper and all over the road. Steep hills/terrain are a prevalent here. For 95% of what we do here in this market, pulling a sponge is just quicker/faster/better for our application.
