Punaorvon Vala - Song About the Finnish White Terror

On January 27th 1918, 100 years ago, the Finnish workers (Red Guards) rebelled and the Finnish Civil War started. The revolution was crushed by the White Guards, and thousands of former Red Guards were executed (Some even without proper trials) and some died in prison camps. Most of the leaders fled to Soviet Russia and founded the Communist Party of Finland. This song is dedicated to the Red Guard orphans whose parents were killed by the mass executions.

There were few who had the luxury of just paying laborers to do all the field work prior to agricultural machinery became commonplace. Not only men were killed in those concentration camps, but wives and children of the red guards were executed or starved to death as well. Completely innocent refugees also suffered and died. I hate how we think our history is so perfect and never remember the dark moments. The workers got much better rights in democratic Finland later on than workers had in the USSR for example. The only reason the workers conditions were so bad was former ruskie oppression. Finland was finally ready to heal from the 100 years of oppression but no, the reds just couldnt do it democratically. Jimmy Holm that 95 000 finnish soldiers died during ww2 but that includes war of Lapland, winter war and continuation war. I don't know about other wars but in winter war 25 000 Finnish soldiers lost their lives and 1000 finnish civilians died. For an example 126 000 soviets died or lost during winter war which lasted only three months. It's 31 000 more than finnish losses in 1939-1945 totally.

Yes that's during the entirety of WW2 in the separate "chapters" of the same story. 26,000 in the winter war, 63,000 in the continuation war and about 1000 in the lapland war. Yes indeed, at least 126,000 Soviet soldiers died in the winter war. Probably more considering that's based on Soviet sources while they left tens of thousands of their fallen behind for the Finns to bury. In the continuation war a further 300,000 Soviets soldiers perished or disappeared, although there were some German troops in the far north included in that conflict.

Which all largely play into the revisionism of the latter half of the USSR's existence. I'd also like to add because I highly doubt you know, that these failures are not attributed to socialism (social ownership of the MOP) and more around the aforementioned piss poor leadership. In fact when more hardline socialist leaders have historically taken control (ex Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Fidel, Ho Chi Minh) their respective states flourished. Imagine if the USA somehow elected a communist president. Do you really think the American economy could withstand the reformation into socialism without collapsing? Of course it wouldn't. The 2 communist parties of Finland have a combined total support of about 1% if I'm not wrong? I don't think this most destructive ideology is rising any time soon. Quite likely that it's the other extreme that takes power first if any, which is only slightly less destructive of an ideology. Interesting times.

There is a serious lack of knowledge of the leftist ideology and propaganda has done its part as well. If you look Finnish communist parties, you might find it interesting to see that the members are either very old or young people. Almost as if two or three generations have been completely wiped out. The reason why the new generation is becoming increasingly more supportive is largely thanks to the internet. People can be questioned of what have been taught for them and they can be educated, rather than people continuously assuming that socialism is when the government does stuff and taxes you to death.

I'm not so sure. The last time the communists nearly took power in Finland was in the late 1940s following WW2 and with Stalin's support and the allied control commission as their backing. We were very close to a communist take over (by elections) or even a second civil war if that didn't work out. The only reasons that didn't happen was 1) the social democrats refusing to politically ally with the left and 2) Stalin eventually giving up on the Finnish communist party and their leaders. Only after that were Finns more free to make their own decisions with a much lesser degree of foreign influence when the allied control commission left and the results were clear, the Finnish people were tired of the communists and constant worker strikes. That was the end of communist support in this country and it declined ever since.

You communists listening to this, might think you would have fought for them, you might think they were obviously the better choice. You might wish they would have won. But understand that if they were to win, they would have simply have become another Stalinist country. They would have probably sided with the Soviets and been influenced by the Soviets. In fact a red Finland would probably have been annexed by the Soviets. The Stalinists, were no less brutal than the Nazis, maybe more considering their kill count. The Whites are the ones who brought democracy to Finland. The people singing this might have thought that the soldiers represent the tyranny of the whites, but in reality, after the whites won, they weren’t fascists, they were democratic, attacked by the Soviets who the communists viewed as their ally. The SKP wanted a democratic nation, but so did Lenin and Stalin, eh? Hear me out. Don’t support the communists, support the anarchists maybe, maybe the liberals, maybe the conservatives. Red Baron Really, how exactly? I stated evidence which can be backed up with facts and a concluded opinion. My background shouldn’t have any effect on I was trying to say. Maybe, except the fact that I’m a Ukrainian and my grandmothers 3 of 5 siblings died in the Holodomor due to Stalinism, my grandfathers 2 of 3 siblings died in the Holodomor, again due to Stalinism, and my fathers side of the family which were Ukrainians living in the Kingdom of Romania, happened to keep their siblings alive due to the fact that Stalinism did not exist in their country. So should we dismiss the history of the people who lived under communism and instead hope that your next run of communism is better? It’s clear that you are some sort of communist, but have you lived under it and has your extended family suffered under it?

Red Baron Being a conservative libertarian is not an oxymoron as conservative is a cultural ideology and libertarian is a state ideology. Most political scientists define the best way to categorize political ideologies is by using a combination of 3 political spectrums all together, the three being the economic spectrum, the political spectrum, and the cultural spectrum. I’m right wing in terms of culture as a conservative, I’m left wing in terms of state since I call for a weak government, and I’m right wing in terms of economics since I am a capitalist. It’s not hard to be a conservative while wanting a weak state.
