So cool to see, thanks! Always been such an iconic gun. I have builds of some replicas of the bigger guns on my channel if you ever want to take a look. The Series 4 Deatomizer and the Tri-Barrel. We used Spaz-Stix for the Deatomizer and it blends great with all the metal parts and the Tri-Barrel is metal plated.

WOW! So I was one of the lead Special FX prop artists who created these for the first Men In Black film! We made all of the hero guns and gadgets, including the Neuralizers, but the Noisy Cricket was always my favorite! This is sooooo much cleaner than the ones we made though, haha, we hand sculpted and machined all the parts and then had some of them cast in metal at a foundry, they were pretty crude! But they looked great on film! I recently posted a video on my channel all about how we created these props and showing my personal behind the scenes photos! Thought you might dig it! Awesome job! Cheers😄👍

Thanks for sharing, I've found your video and gonna watch it. Props for movies work on film, but some of the most iconic props are always rude : The Lament Configuration in Hellraiser is a dumb wood cube with some laser cut metal sheets all over, and the Arc Gun in District 9 is wood blocks painted white, so crude you can still see the wood grain under the paint... Hey, it's movie magic and this is why we do it. :)

If you ever do an update, it'd be really neat to have the hammer act as the switch for the LEDs. Incorporate a detented toggle switch the hammer print could slide over. Pull it back to turn on.

Bill, your work has gotten to be SO sophisticated. I've seen KZbins of actual film-used props that weren't done to this level of detail. And Britt, thanks for such great camera work. You actually show what's going on, which is saying SO MUCH. You wouldn't believe the number of vids where they hide half of what they're doing behind their own hands or bad lighting, out of focus, etc. There's no vid without you.

@Wanderer0422 жыл бұрын
It may be small. But the Noisy Cricket is possibly the most powerful weapon in pop culture. It surpasses the BFG and Even the lightsaber. It can punch a hole through a truck and even a mountain. Then again it is alien tech, with massive recoil. Proving that size doesn’t matter in terms of powerful weapons. Great work by the way.
@punishedprops2 жыл бұрын
I had no idea it ranked that high!
@Wanderer0422 жыл бұрын
@@punishedprops Funny enough the Noisy Cricket in the movie has power settings, the hammer is supposed to be a limiter, in the movie it was not pulled all the way back, and that was the Cricket on 'normal' settings. And we see Agent J flying. In the animated show if the hammer was pulled all the way back it was ridiculously powerful, This was done by Agent K who also flew a good distance away, but the target was obliterated. The MIB gave the Cricket to rookie agents to see how far they would fly and often did bets on the side for laughs, but also veteran agents would use the Cricket as a last resort weapon.

For things like cutting the steel rod, or anything else that has a tendency to go flying when cut, grab a large ziplock andmake the actual cut with it inside the bag. Bag's transparent so you can see what you're doing, and it catches the parts. Another, potential, improvement for a future revision of the design might be to link the switch to the hammer, which would add a bit of fun there when using it in functionality

Something like the noisy cricket feels like it should be shiny, new and untarnished. Due mostly to the small size but also the power it holds. Plus it makes the weapon look like a toy to civilians so if they see an agent running with it, they would think they are cosplayers or something

Great work!!!!!! What a fun gun to build. Modeling sci-fi gun props has become a bit of an obsession for me recently. It’s great to see how you went about chopping yours up for printing and assembly. Tippy tip, since you used translucent resin, you should be able to simply dab a bit of the same resin on two parts, assemble, then hit it with a UV lamp or flashlight for a few seconds to bond it, as if it were layer to layer. :) It doesn’t work well with opaque resins as the light doesn’t reach the center. (though now that I think of it… I guess you could just put it around the edges) Since we’re on the subject tip #2 You can use liquid resin instead of epoxy for filling in gaps, smoothing out parts, etc warm resin and resin thinned with a bit of IPA works wonders. Makes your stuff glossy smooth too.

@MyAramil2 жыл бұрын
Its not super complicated but does take some special equipment. They do make low melting point resin for jewlery makers so they can design rings, pendants and so forth so you could use a "lost wax" method to make the parts. then the other things youd need are something to melt the metal with, and something to cast with. which requires green sand. Of course you might want to make the parts a tad larger as there is shrinkage. And granted this is a super abridged version. Yes it seems daunting but so does any hobby or thing you are jumping into.
