Punishment Close Pass Reported! With Police Response!

Cyclist refuses to use cycle lane again, but don't fret! A friendly van driver is at hand to teach him a lesson. Van driver decides to close pass the cyclist as an educational excercise. When confronted he clearly explains that he did it cause the cyclist was not on the cycle lane.

He was way to close to start with, tailgating is against the law. Then the close pass, supposed to give 1.5m, (Iam happy if I get 1m) but this was under 1/2m. Shit driving. Its about time the law made sure these are carried through to prosecution, else whats the point in having the laws.

What is it with van drivers trying to "teach people a lesson" when they think wrongly that you've done something wrong? I've just had my car written of by one, drove into the side of my car on a roundabout, he literally said he did it "because you were in the wrong lane" (which i was not), the Police are now on his case and the insurance has just settled in my favour following my "overwhelming dashcam evidence". On the plus side it pushed me to start cycling to my new work location, even if I do it 50% of the time i'll be saving over £1500 a year in fuel, so he might have done me a favour!

Many folk need to understand that thankfully cyclists dont have to use cycle lanes just as drivers dont have to use motorways. Clearly an impatient black van man, as allways got him very far ahead.

Police: We aren't going to let you know if we took any action and don't place the evidence on social media. In other words don't tell anyone and just forget it ever happened. What a marvellous service for dangerous drivers.

Thanks for sharing this Silvio. It's a shame that those asking why you wasn't in the segregated cycle lane, had not watched it all because that cycle lane had ended before the close pass. They would have also noticed had you been in that cycle lane, you wouldn't have been able to access the road you was on.

Hi Silvio, thank you for this, it has of course had the undesirable effect of slightly increasing my blood pressure! but notwithstanding it is important enough to endure some stress. As you correctly state there was in fact no clear cycle lane where he passed you but the had been one earlier where he had probably become overexcited. Careful review displays yet another unconsidered stupid tokenist road and path layout that creates more problems than it solves!. There are far too many places where the design and layout makes life more difficult but we are all in that same boat, the recent sensible amendments to the highway code make the point that none of us have any 'rights' to any road space, nothing trumps the need for sensible consideration, this does not appear to be well understood not just by drivers but also by many people serving in our police forces, that of itself is a major concern, that so many individuals join the force simply to be able to assert authority to which they are not entitled. That part of the message from them that states that publication of this video might cause cancellation of the investigation is absolutely appalling! and is an example of the style of tyranny that is so favoured. I had a punishment close-pass after I gestured to a driver (politely I might add) to get out of the cycle lane. He duly responded with a deliberate close-pass half a mile further up the road when he eventually caught me up. I of course responded to his close-pass by forwarding my video evidence to the GMP. And they responded by taking the matter further with the driver. #KarmaForBadDrivers 😂

His reaction really strengthens the evidence that it was a punishment pass, regardless of anything that went on before (you are not obligated to use the cycle lane) this is not acceptable behaviour.

what are you supposed to do at 1:06 if riding at speed? You look like you're doing about 25 mph at that time- if you were in the cycle lane does it just sort of force you to stop at the crossing where the other bikes are? Because thats unusable at that speed. What a stupid design. Id be in the road too if thats the case.

I am both a cyclist and a car driver. There has been vast investment into cycle lanes to ease traffic collisions. I could see many people using these lanes, but it was not good enough for you. Although it is not illegal to not use them. I cannot see the point in them if you are just going to using the roads. There are now cycle lanes on pavements giving priority to cyclists over pedestrians. This is very wrong especially if you are not going to use them. Cyclist constantly break laws by cycling against one way roads, jumping lights and cutting traffic. Again use the cycle lanes we tax payers have paid for you to use

@@bradfordzone5187 No, but as with many of you victim status cyclists you never take ownership of your own irresponsible actions. If I'm on a cycle I make sure I am well away from any drivers I don't like the look of whether the law is on my side or not. It's called common sense. To put yourself in danger then act all incredulous is massively irritating and a reason cyclists are disliked. And as for your point about the cycle lane ending, that is complete horse shit. I regretfully sat through this whole clip - for the vast majority of it there WAS a cycle lane which wasn't in any danger of being used by the cammer.

roads are paid for by local taxes ,council tax, ved is at ax on emission unfotunatley cyclists cant help you with insurance and fuel howevef happy motoring.
