With Ambrosius. He's a genie. What you wish for needs to be literal. Wording is important. Asking for a Robot Penny with existing parts means the virus can still killel robot penny. Penny is the first synthetic to be be able to generate an aura. She has a soul. The request would seperate the soul from the body. Without a body the soul would be destroyed. Ambrosius is not allowed to destroy. Team rwby wants penny but can't ask for it because if they ask for the bridges penny would die due to the rule of creating only one thing at a time. So without asking for what they really want, the create a loophole forcing Ambrosius to create a body for penny's soul as a byproduct of the requested build. When the Bridges are made, robot penny was destryed because that was the last request. Human penny was a byproduct of being forced to create due to not destroying and thus was spared because the the rule of the Last Requested project be destroyed was the robot one.

Penny is a flesh and blood person now. If she was only aura, i.e. just a soul, she would be dead. A soul cannot exist in the material plane without a body. She would go to heaven, or hell, or valhalla, or wherever souls go in this universe. She is still around after the portals where created. Also the maiden power would go to someone else. And , Penny is still the winter maiden. If Penny is just a soul and still here on the material plane, when she would be a ghost, spirit, or whatever, and would not get all warm and tingly when she hugged Ruby and the rest. Which she clearly did. Since the rule is that he cannot destroy, which killing a person would count as destroying, Ambrosius got, as Ruby said, creative, and went way above his pay grade and used true god-of-light powers to make a permanent body for Penny soul or helped (forced) Penny's soul to make one for herself. Again, he cannot let Penny die by just leaving her soul after removing the robot parts. Hence his dilemma of how can he fulfill the request without breaking the rules; "...How much of the old Penny would be my work and how much would be .. her." Ok, the last part is speculation on my part, but I still conclude that Penny is a real meat person. Change my mind.

Anything *he* creates is destroyed when he creates something new. So the "flesh" is created much like the Raven and Crow forms that Raven and Qrow transform into - using magic. The Magic of the Maiden in this case. This also kind of destroys my view of the Maiden Powers as the reincarnations of Salem and Ozma's children because if that were the case, wouldn't the default body be that of the girl whose power first housed the Maiden Power (ie, one of the four daughters)? Mob explained it really well, recreating Penny from the existing robot parts (virus included) involves separating her soul from the mechanical parts, and because it's against the rules to destroy, Ambrosious cannot let go of the soul without killing her so he had to create a human vessel that would accept her soul to complete the wish that abided by the rules. Ruby simply let Ambrosious fill in that gap on his own.

MurderofBirds put out a context video on this, but how they were able to get Penny to be a real girl is because they asked EXPLICITLY for a new version of Penny, using all of the existing mechanical parts, including the virus. With all of that taken out of the existing Penny, what’s left is Penny’s Soul. Ambrosius CANNOT destroy, and RWBY already got what they asked for- the mechanical body. That left her Soul and Aura, which would fade and be destroyed, and he cannot do that, so they forced him to create a byproduct of Penny becoming a real girl- not what was asked for, but what RWBY wanted. They couldn’t exactly say they wanted a human Penny because she would die the moment it was used for anything else. So basically, they used his own rules to fuck him up enough and get a Human Penny, as well as the asked for Robot Penny.

A lot of people seem to be jumping on the idea that Penny is a "real girl" in the exact same way as Ruby and the others but that may not be the case. She's most definitely not a robot now and clearly has human-like senses but did you notice what it looked like when Robo Penny looked at the new Penny? It was kind of like a solid blob of aura. Now she COULD be a "real girl" in all the same ways as Ruby that has to deal with eating and pooping and all that jazz but until we see her do so all we can say for sure is that she's not a robot anymore.

I have no idea what point this makes other than I am confused. Penny does all the hugging until this volume, and then Ruby starts initiating it. Arryn, so what you have to understand about Penny's scene with Ambrosius is HOW the rules for Ambrosius's creations function. 1) you can ask him for anything--he can create ANYTHING, as long as you can explain to him HOW. 2) The staff can only be used to create/maintain one thing at a time. (the law of limited creativity--how "limited" Ambrosius is depeneds upon how specific your wording is.) 3) When you create something new, the previous thing you requested disappears. (the law of impermanence) 4) Ambrosius is NOT allowed to destroy. he's only allowed to CREATE. (the law excluding destruction) 5) Ruby asks ambrosius to make a HOLLOW shell, a replica of Penny's design, using the existing parts inside the Penny we all know and love... taking the robot parts and the virus out of PENNY to create the replica. This replica is what was requested, and it is THIS replica that is subject to the law of "impermanence" 6) By splitting apart Pennys' soul and body, ambrosius is forced into a position of having to give team rwby a SHELL, fashioned from penny's schematics from penny's robotic parts. But because he is not allowed to destroy--he must decide how to prevent the soul that is left behind from being destroyed by his act of creation---he is forced, by a loophole, to BE CREATIVE (ruby doesn't ask for a human body for penny, she asks for a robotic shell). They know this forces Ambrosius to do SOMETHING EXTRA...and that extra magical act---the creation of a human shell for Penny is not subject to the law of impermanence, because ONLY THE THING PREVIOUSLY REQUESTED is subject to being destroyed when a new creation is requested. So human penny gets to remain when team RWBY asks for the portals and "central location".

So, my mind is apparently weird for understanding the Penny thing on first viewing. Ruby asked for an exact copy of Penny, virus included, using only her existing robot parts. She pointedly DIDN'T ask for a new body for Penny's soul, but Ambrosius HAD to make one otherwise the soul would've gone bye bye. That would've been killing, ie destruction, and he's now allowed to do that. So, since the new body wasn't asked for, it didn't go away when the portals were made. Simple, right?

In the fight with Ironwood...why is no one talkng about how much damage that guy can take to the face? I mean even without his guns he is still capable to fight. What other character in the show is also able to do that? Crow maybe, we saw him punch people but he still mostly relys on his weapon. Also on the topic of Ironwood. Is his samblance a passive one like Crows bad luck in that its just something that is there out of his control. In that way his "Iron will", that was an advantage because it let him persue his goals without ever backing down, turn against himself as it limites his point of view to just a single option? He kinda reminds me of a coworker I have. She also sees the world just through her "point of view" and its logical as long as you only view thing in that narrow mindset but it falls appart when you see the bigger picture. I think Ironwood is the same. Bombing the town is logical if you just have a "Me or them will survive" point of view without anything else to consider but its flawed when you take moral, the people you hurt, etc. into the equiation but Ironwoods samblance dosn't allows this. Still he should have learned over the years that his ability has its drawbacks and that he would need someone like Winter to point him into the right direction if his view gets to narrow. Its so sad to see him go down this path but I think its also a kinda logical development. He was allways very focused and let no one talk him out of it and over time it got worse.

-Chapter 12: Creation RWBY quote of the chapter _“Do hugs always make you feel warm inside?” (Penny)_ I guess a correction is in order; the last chapter wasn’t the penultimate chapter. -Phase 1 Amazing that taking down Ironwood went through as smoothly as it did. But it had gotten to the point to where support for his actions had made things harder to where his allies questioned him, with Vine now somewhat questioning the actions they were taking. I still can’t understand why he kept Winter at his side. After what happened two episodes ago, one would think he would be more suspicious of her, but it might be because of his current mindset. Because he is so focused on one task, he seemed to not pay attention to everything else. Winter could have been in serious trouble, but after seeing the Mantle rescue scene, he locked on to that and his counterplan too much for him to care about anything else. Winter’s words to him is the most telling in the scene, showing how far he’s gotten even to his closest soldier. And in a way, she was looking for some kind of hope that, just maybe, there was a chance for him. But Ironwood made his intentions clear. _”I hope you’re not going to talk me out of it.”_ _“…No, sir. I don’t think that’s possible”_ Ironwood verses JNR, Oscar, Emerald, _and_ Winter. A short, yet awesome fight to see. Admittedly, that’s seems a bit excessive to fight one opponent. But then again, Ironwood is an expert Huntsman, headmaster, general, and he did come in with a cannon. The standout parts was (1) Emerald remarking how weird it was that she was fighting with the good guys, (2) the team-up with Winter and Oscar with their combo attacks (although she also used it with Nora; electric glyph) and (3)… …Winter apparently using a level/gauge 3 super-move on Ironwood. While it might have been really awesome to see a straight fight between Qrow, Robyn and Marrow against the Ace-Ops (specifically Harriet vs. Robyn), Marrow’s ability made it so that there wouldn’t be an unnecessary battle. This shows the difference between teams. Team RWBY gained the same support that Ironwood lost, and those still with him were already showing signs of concern. -Planning and Phase 2 It’s good to see the hope return to Ruby’s face now that there was a plan to work with. Rather than keeping the vault sealed, they would use the Relic to save Penny, the people of Atlas and Mantle. However, it would mean that Atlas would fall, destroying both it and Mantle. So in a sense, this could now be seen as The Fall of Atlas. It does seem to remind me of the theme/ending of _Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok_ where Asgard was to be destroyed while the Asguardians would be saved. _“Asguard’s not a place, it’s a people.” (Thor)_ Then there’s the issue with the spirit of the Relic. Like Jinn, he has a limitation when it comes to his power, being that specifics are needed. This means that the team would have to be very thoughtful about their plan, Whitley coming in with the help with the evacuation and Ruby being detailed on what they needed to do in order to save Penny after the vault is opened. Seriously, her semblance has become really useful once she understand it (Penny’s help) as a quick teleport. It’s also a good thing that time paused once the spirit was awakened. A lot of elements in this chapter reminding me of _Lightning Return: Final Fantasy XIII…_ -Ambrosius When Ozpin described him as a character, he wasn’t kidding. Artisan, which apparently involves being temperamental. His rules are like another part of the genie in _Aladdin,_ such as not being able to bring people from the dead. But his requirement of him saying that he will need exact directions is reminiscent of _Wishmaster._ It also seems with regards to the two requests, he seems to have two points of views, saying that their ideas can be either a good one or a bad one. I had to re-watch the first request just to understand it and I still don’t have it figured out fully. Doesn’t matter… Penny is safe. And… -A real girl (After a moment or two of happy cheering) There may be one or two questions about this. Since her robot parts were removed, creating the soul in form and making a body for her, is Penny actually human, or is she something else? Ambrosius did mention that he had to be creative with what to be used, how much will be Penny and how much will be what is his. Could Penny be a new being, something akin to humans and faunus? And that’s not including her power as the Winter Maiden. Also, now that she is no longer a machine (that self-destruction scene was _really_ creepy), she is more vulnerable (not including her Aura). Will she possess the same experience and ability she had before? Granted, she has the power of a Maiden, but will she be able to use her fighting ability? Will she still be combat-ready, especially with hungry usurper lying in wait? -Transport to Vacuo Plot-reasons aside, it seems somewhat strange that the team wants to the people of Atlas and Mantle to Vacuo. Going by climate, a people whose environment is in the cold (tundra, ice sheets) will have a difficult time in a desert region. And dealing with refugees will cause issues in the current kingdom. And the people itself deal with a huge culture shock. But in this time of war, it cannot be helped. Vale is still suffering from the Fall of Beacon, so it may not be the best option. Mistral has the space as it is the biggest, but it doesn’t seem to have the best security. Seeing the portals in Atlas/Mantle; definitely thinking of the climax of _Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame._ And while their plan has gotten through, that one ominous warning from Ambrosius definitely puts in a change in the stakes. _“Do Not Fall.”_ And the scene near the end of the intro brings worry. Initial, it was a worry that seeing the team falling and having Grimm hands around indicated something to the river of Grimm from earlier on. But this just may be worse. Seeing that the central point is a realm outside of Remnant, dropping in there is like falling into a possible endless abyss. -Infiltration And once again, Salem’s tactics come to the fore. Watts’ interference has already created a state of panic by cutting off Jaune’s broadcast at just the right moment for maximum emotional damage (points for timing). And Cinder is in wait within the crowd, taking her time for strike rather than just charging in like before. That may also means that Neo is within the group as well. If one is to guess, Cinder has set up Neo to deal with Ruby while she goes after Penny. If Cinder is still following her mandate to leave Ruby alive and using Neo to kill her instead, then it a good guess that Watts doesn’t know about it, which is why he is still working with her. And Salem has yet to make a re-appearance…

so an explanation. team rwby wished for the robot and the virus to become a new creation. however, the soul cant go with it because creation cannot manipulate life. so the soul gets stuck in limbo. however, creation also cannot allow the soul to die. so as a byproduct, ambrosious has to create a vessel so the soul doesnt die, but does not count as a creation as it wasn't TECHNICALLY wished for, therefore being immune to the 1 creation rule. and it just so happened that ambrosious decided to use a human reference as the base for the new vessel

So, something I have noticed: Raven (The Spring Maiden) opened the vault, but Yang was the one to retrieve the Relic. Besides Oscar, Ruby is the one that carries the Relic of Knowledge the most. Penny (Winter Maiden) opens the vault, but Ruby is the one to retrieve the Relic. Besides Penny, Weiss hold the Relic of Creation the most. What does this hint to me? 1.) Weiss will probably be the next one to retrieve a Relic, and Blake will be the one that holds it the most. 2.) If Raven died, Yang would most likely be the new Spring Maiden, meaning that Yang represents Spring in the fairytale. 3.) Penny confirmed that if she died, her powers would go to Ruby. That indicates that Ruby represents Winter in the fairytale. 4.) The fact that Ruby carried Knowledge and Weiss held Creation means that some aspect of themselves also represents the corresponding Relic. It isn't just the one. They as characters represent more than one element. 5.) With all of this said, I now think that Illia will possibly become a maiden, and that is how Blake will retrieve a Relic.

The whole volume spent reducing Ironwood to a cartoon villain, and he gets taken down in under a minute, thanks to Miss OP Semblance switching sides just in time. How did he not see Winter's betrayal coming? Where are any other soldiers? At least pouty Winter is as adorable as hair-down Winter, and Ambrosius is the highlight of the chapter. Ambrosius referred to Pietro. We still have no idea what happened to him and Maria. Even Penny has forgotten all about them. Are they dead? Because, y'know, It's really unclear. Vacuo may be the only kingdom that's left unspoiled, but I doubt a city in the middle of a desert can sustain thousands of refugees; but that's where team Avata- I mean, team RWBY are supposed to go next, so off we go. It feels rushed. It feels contrived. It feels... like the runup to every volume finale after 3. (Volume 6 might get a pass, but points off for a mech fight timed to coincide with the debut of Gen:Lock.)

What I don’t get is why they don’t just open a bunch of doors in Atlas, that open to a bunch of doors in Vacuo. Like remove the middle area just step from atlas to vacuo immediately bada bing bada boom problem solved. Why is the middle ground needed, aside from they only want one door to vacuo?
