My adult son began with a Shepard mix and learned a lot working with him. He researched a number of breeders and visited those he might consider, to insure they were reputable, and open to showing the puppies' earliest care and training. He found a breeder he liked, and with her help picked parents who were proven with "family line" pups. All that made his wait almost a year, but when he finally brought home his 'dream dog' (named Dodge) he and his wife were ready, had a trainer on board they liked, and their puppy grew into a wonderful family dog! This video is so great!

I love that he did all the research ahead of time and was commited to waiting for just the right breeder to have a litter.

I love this video! I’ve had GSDs for years, and ultimately now I’ve switched over to Swiss Shepherds because they are overall softer in temperament and usually better suited for the modern family home, but GSDs and all shepherds remain my true love. This channel hit the nail on the head! A loyal, loving breed with a lot of exposure needs.

Thank you for watching! They can truly be such great dogs with the right owner, but it's good for people to know all the info ahead of time!

Thanks, Michelle! We recently got a GSD puppy as first-time dog owners. She is from well-trained and health-checked working-line parents, but her personality is a bit shy and holding back. Pannie is now 11 weeks old and we have been following most of your puppy training tips. It turned out very useful for helping her settle in. We're now working on building her confidence outside the home.

We rescued a 3mo old GSD/husky mix a week ago. I did my research, am willing to put in the money & time, and signed up for Michelle’s online training. We have our hands full, but our fur baby is everything we wanted & more. We know we are in for years of hard work, but we are ready to meet the challenge and give her the life she deserves.

Thank you for this great video. I used to have a GSD x Border Collie who was very intelligent and trainable. I now have a GSD puppy who’s learning fast! Your advice is spot on! GSDs do need a ‘job’ and an owner who is prepared to devote a lot of time and effort on their care and training. That said, they are wonderful 💖

I have an 18 month old German shepherd. His name is maximus ( Max). We go everywhere together and are best friends. I got him when he was about 10-12 weeks old. We didn't know how important it is to socialize him until a local trainer told us. We got him for a family pet and possibly a service dog to help me with my service connected PTSD. Problem is that he's aggressive towards other dogs. So needless to say we don't usually go all the places I would like to. Is there anything I can do to stop this behavior?
@HowToTrainADreamDog2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you may benefit from from having a trainer come to your home to work with you and your pup. Unfortunately, the training industry is not well regulated and you have to do your research to make sure the trainer you work with uses fear free and positive methods based in behavioral science. Credentials to look for in a trainer would be Fear Free Certified, CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed) and/or CBCC-KA (Certified Behavior Consultant Canine-Knowledge Assessed.) Here is a directory that might be helpful: www.ccpdt.org/dog-owners/certified-dog-trainer-directory/ Or one other option in case you need more resources: fearfreepets.com/resources/directory/

Hey! Your videos have been so helpful! I’m getting my 8 week old puppy the day after tomorrow and I was wondering what sort of toys are okay to leave in the crate. We have a snuggle puppy that I think is okay to put in there for now overnight? How long are plush toys aloud in the crate overnight, if at all?
@HowToTrainADreamDog2 жыл бұрын
Congrats on your new furry family member! To get started, check out our FREE New Puppy Starter Kit! It has tons of great tips and resources for new pups when they get home. Here's the link: howtotrainadreamdog.com For your question, we recommend nothing in the crate left overnight, even bedding. Bedding and toys, especially when left unattended, often becomes a chew toy and has the potential for dangerous choking or intestinal blockage.

I do have a German Shepard and his name is DuSable, and boy is he à handful. I need help, he is chewing up everything.
@HowToTrainADreamDog2 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Hang in there! Chewing is a natural behavior that allows dogs to relieve stress. However, as you know, this behavior can become destructive if not channeled properly! Puppy chewing happens for many reasons! They are exploring a brand new world, except without thumbs to help them like you and me. Also, just like human babies, their mouths are typically sore from teething between the ages of 3 and 6 months. Always make sure to redirect your puppy to an appropriate item, praise them when they pick the right thing on their own, and block off access to things they should not chew. Remember, to a puppy everything is a chew toy! They don’t know the difference between the table leg and the Nylabone until you teach them! Check out these videos for some great ideas for chewing, and consider enrolling in 30 Days to Puppy Perfection to really address this behavior and teach your puppy impulse control. This will get better with time… and training! Here are some videos with recommended chew toys: Best Chew Toys For Teething Puppies: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWWzlo2Lr7eAl8k SuperChewer Toys: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6O9ZaClms2Cf68
