Stonnie helped me train my puppy via his online course 3 years ago. Although no dog is perfect, he is super reliable. People are always impressed, especially given a novice trained him at home. Yesterday we brought home our new puppy. I contacted Stonnie to see if he could share the literature and some materials from the course I deleted a while back. He reached out within a few hours and went above and beyond in providing me with his current resources. I can't say enough about his methods, communication and overall service.

I am so glad I found your you tube videos, I’ve watched hours and hours in preparation of picking up our Malinois puppy last week. I cannot thank you enough - one week on we have a 9 week old puppy who has loved everyone he has met, been clambering over whatever is in his way, burrowing under if he can’t climb it - exploring everything and rushing happily back to us when we ask cause I tell him what a wonderful pup he is. Been ‘whooped’ by an older dog as he was a brat and learned a valuable lesson in 2 seconds flat. Inside he is a content, easy (tired!) pup. Quite sure he will test us in weeks to come but I’m well armed - already building my obstacle course! Our future relationship, and his whole life is going to be better thanks to you!

IMO too often people buy puppies first and then figure out what to do with them. That was the way I did it with my first Doberman 45 years ago. We learned through experience. Unfortunately experience is a bad teacher because it first gives you the test and then teaches you the lesson. Now we have KZbin, for those that want to learn before taking the leap. Even those of us that have lots of experience can still learn from professionals, like yourself. God bless you.

Don’t care about the negative comments that aren’t legit criticism- you are wise enough to know the difference. No one who treats animals as well as you is a bad person. I also think good teachers have the same qualities as good parents, good pet owners, good people, etc. The species may differ but the heart and soul are the same. I find many are good with more than one type of “critter.”

I agree with Stonnie! Any single dog from a litter of GSD/Malinois and Dutch shepherd will be plenty of watch/alert dog for almost any normal living situation. They will be on duty 24 hrs a day. Alerting with enthusiasm for any newcomers or evil doers.

Great Video! Really shows that there's not a best and worst puppy, there's the puppy with the right qualities for each owner. I currently own a 6 month old female collie that despite being the small one on her litter she's very active and social and growing really beautiful, and my second puppy a 3.5 months old male collie is the calm big (ears down yet) snuggly puppy. I love calmer puppies, they are just like you mention, they can do everything just not too much... which is perfect for me.

Great coverage of a dogs potential. It is fun to watch a litter and a pups ranking within the litter, then see how the owners have realized a dogs potential. Would be fun to interview some of the pups 3 months from now to see where their rankings are. I bet some are trained to be the smartest while others are trained to be an active athlete, maybe the runt is no longer the runt while others become troublesome and it isn't always the ones that fall into those categories that you would have expected. Kind of where genetics meets opportunity/training.

Do you find it better to have 2 dogs? I have a 1yr old pit and want to get him a playmate so he’s not always looking to me to entertain him!! Since watching these videos I am inspired to do more adventuring but I can’t all the time lol. Just looking for advice don’t want to get in to over my head.
@hannahwalker40603 жыл бұрын
@@karenwalker3756 there are a lot of pros and cons to having 2. I got my second dog when my first one was 5. I had had my first for 3 years and did a lot of training and adventuring with her before I got my second. I wanted to get another younger dog in the hopes that my older one would act as a mentor dog and help teach the new pup how to be a good adventure partner. As much as I absolutely love both dogs, and wouldn't trade them for anything in the world, there are times I miss just having 1 dog. The biggest adjustment I had to make was making sure I spent a little time training both, even if it's just 15 minutes a day. The other thing I have to say is in my experience, young pitbulls can be very high energy! My older dog who is now almost 7 didn't really start acting mature until she was 5. My other one who is turning 2 in 2 weeks still acts much younger than she is. I guess what I'm trying very poorly to say is I think it depends on your situation. There are a lot of reasons why I got a second dog, but they're most likely different than yours. I will say that it's nice that they can play with each other and get more exercise that way! I wish I could give you a yes or no answer. I spent a lot of time thinking if adding a second dog was the right decision. Sorry for the long response! I hope this helped some!

Stonnie...just came across your U-Tube videos today. They are great & just what I needed! Thank you very much. Learned so much watching, especially the one entitled "secondary socialization" . However kept looking for the first 6-7 wks video of puppies lives (hope there is one) so I can begin early, but I couldn't find it. My female GSD was just bred this week & expecting puppies in May. Am so excited. Want to have them in the best of health, both mentally & physically when I bring them to the breeder at 8 weeks old (he sells the pups as he does all advertising, interviewing the families of their future homes, etc). They are raised in my home instead of an outdoor kennel. Have a nice large whelping box for her & everything I need for the big day. At least I hope I do. What can I do the first 6-7 wks of their lives that would help them to grow. Thank you so much for your videos, Annie in Oshkosh & Schatzi too 🐾🐾

I take my pup on twice a day daily walks/hikes on and off leash. We meet a few people alone the way but not enough for good socialization. I took him over to a friends house yesterday to play with his dog and they had a great time but again.....I don't get to do this much as he doesn't live nearby. And I really don't know others with dogs. So dog socialization is not always that easy for some of us. But perhaps its good enough as my two previous dogs were well mannered when out and about. My 5 month old lab seems to be coming along well even with limited socialization.

Great video! You are a fabulous breeding and trainer !! I shared in about 12 German Shepherd groups. People need to hear this and not put them in a crate so they have their safe place !! I hope I placed my pups with the right owners. I only place them with people whom work from home and love to hike and AREN'T scared of going outside!! I weeded through over 200 people and did some social media stalking 😂and a hour long phone interview. My biggest fear was a person crating my pups 10 hours a day and thinking they train themselves!! My last pup the people didn't come get her when the rest were leaving and she ended up getting carbon monoxide poisoning with me when my furnace malfunction. It effected her heart rate than she seemed more anxious and nervous .The vet said that a side effect from the carbon poisoning. Lilly doing great now but now I going to hang on to her incase there long term effects .

Re Pick of the litter: yes, I got the runt of the pack, but I maximized her potential. I got her when she was 4.5 months old, and she still lived with mother, father, brother, and 3 other dogs that got her dinner whenever the people didn't pay attention. I have regular contact with her brother and sister's owners, and both of them maximized not even half of their potential. (not a slight to them, just an observation). They wanted a casual companion, and I an active one. When we went on a walk last year they said they expected Marley to outlive both of her siblings.

At 7 weeks, the video of one of our puppies-to-be (schnoodle) came across as a goofball who loved attention from humans. At 5 months, he has fulfilled our expectations! He was a bit rumpy pumpy, “stocky” the vet called him. His littermate who we also brought home had and continues to have a very different physique and temperament. He’s slightly taller, angular, leaner and yet heavier, and he’s a bit more nervous. They showed us their personalities in this first video.
