Comment for the algorithm. Been looking into making my own dog food as a natural offshoot of my growing distrust of the american food industry for my family. I realized id not allow a lot of the ingredients in my "premium" dog food for my wife an kid so why would i feed it to my very expensive family pet. Appreciate that this is a more complete meal an doesnt require processed multivitamin support to make it work. A zink tab, fish oil and some ground up bone is all thats needed to balance everything an i appreciate that very much. Thanks for the work. Time to go shopping

@NikiReynolds_2swift well I stalled with beef hearts, can only get them in 60lb boxes, so I just ponryed up for super expensive store food for now. Actually more expensive than making it my own, by a lot

Thank you for a new video. Thanks to you I started cooking for my dogs and they love it! One of my dogs always had problems with his stomach, diarrea, farting, heartburn etc and since I Cook for him I haven't seen any of these signs anymore. Plus I have never seen him eat with so much joy. Don't have a puppy at the moment, but will definately watch this video as well.

Confused AGAIN… this recipe is for a 10 or 20 pound puppy & if for both then this recipe is divided for 2 feeding right? Ugh I so need to get this figured out because we are getting a puppy real soon & I want to start them off right!! Looks like you forgot to mention the chicken wing?? One more question?? What do you think about brown or white rice for pups or adult dogs?
@FarmersMarketFido11 ай бұрын
I like rice. Brown especially. Yeah the hardest thing to teach in this format is how much to feed. I have a whole video about it. But it doesn’t really apply well to puppies. Honestly, I think with puppies you can let them eat as much as they want while they’re growing.

Bones mostly. But, I love raw turkey necks. The tendons and ligaments are nice floss and the bones are soft and easy to digest for any dog even if swallowed whole.

I completed the form to have the PDF emailed to me, but the recipe contained in the email was for a Healthy Adult Maintenance cooked diet. How could I receive this puppy food recipe?

Hi I have been home cooking successfully for 13 yrs BUT I am getting a 8 week old Yorkie and I want to home cook from the start. I will be using Animal Essentails Seaweed Calcium BUT I do NOT want to use liver this go around with this puppy. I live where I can get grass fed/finished beef, pasture raised pork etc. What can I substitute for the liver? IMO Liver is a very dirty organ and I want to be mindful of limiting toxins.
@FarmersMarketFido10 ай бұрын
The closest thing would be spleen but, it's not an exact substitute. Liver is the source of copper, iron and B vitamins.

It depends in the breed. Small dogs until 10 months, medium dogs one year ish, and large breed can keep growing up to 2.5 years so they need a different diet.

I cannot explain how much your videos have been helpful in helping me prepare for my new puppy! I do have a few questions, I live in Indonesia so unfortunately some of the ingredients are not as accessible and quite expensive. For example blueberries and quinoa. I’d really appreciate if you could provide variety of items or alternative for certain food that may provide the same nutrients. Also, reading and learning more about raw food diet and cooked diet have made me rethink my decision on getting a dog since it is very, very expensive. Is there any way to keep it affordable while still prioritizing the health of our pups? Thank you!!
@FarmersMarketFido3 жыл бұрын
Rice is perfectly fine and if you have potatoes ever those work as a carbohydrate source also. And yes getting a dog is definitely an expense but it’s also totally worth it. Starting them off healthy should help you to avoid costly veterinary care for illnesses in the future. But you can also do partially home-cooked and partially kibble. Basically you just do the best that you can right now. That’s what we are all doing.

Thank you so much for your puppy recipe. I want to start feeding your recipe to my puppy but I have some questions before I start. You mentioned in the video that is not good to feed raw kale or raw egg everyday so I was wondering how many days a week can I give puppy raw kale and egg and what can I use to substitute these ingredients when I don't use them in the recipe or I just cook them to be safe and can feed it cooked everyday ? I also want to know until what age do I use the puppy recipe and when can I start feeding as an adult. I can't wait to feed my puppy your recipe!
@FarmersMarketFido2 жыл бұрын
I feed puppy food up to 10 months of age for small-medium dogs. I also recommend a good quality commercial raw like Darwin's to add variety until you learn exactly what to include daily. you can use pet diet designer to help as well.

Why do you need to add iron and zinc when the puppy is getting it in the meat.

Puppies need more iron than is provided by this recipe and zinc mostly comes from hair or seafood. Which is not in this recipe.

Thank you for the informative video. Question, I am trying to figure out how much to feed a a 2lb 8 week old puppy I'll be getting. Watched your 'How to figure out how much to feed...' video I calculated 65 cal RER x 3 for puppies is approx 195. You do mention in this video that if a puppy weighs 40 lbs, you do not just double the recipe amount. So I'm assuming I shouldn't just feed 1/5 of this recipe amount... can you please clarify how much I should feed this tiny puppy?

Just multiply all the ingredients by 10 then portion out three day containers based on your dog’s caloric requirements. I have a video on just how to figure that out too. Freeze what you won’t use in the first three days. Or you could even portion out each meal and defrost every night.
