Sweet Apple. Hope she produces more milk. Is this a common problem with first time litters? The puppies continue to be active and verbal. Love the X sleeping pattern.

Actually, the lack of milk is more of a problem with small litters than with maiden breedings. We've had singletons where the mom just shut down.

Would you ever consider crossing other breeds in an attempt to diversify the gene pool of cavaliers? I’ve head of it being done with GSD and bulldogs. I don’t know much about genetics, but am curious on your opinions of how to correct health issues in a dog breed.

The cross-breeding was done in the early days of trying to re-create the breed, about 100 years ago. Today, we consider ourselves to be "preservation" breeders, meaning that we want to preserve and perpetuate the good qualities that characterize Cavaliers, so we would not consider bringing in another breed at this point - nor would any good breeder.

I realize it's early yet, but I'm wondering if, given the problems you've had with Apple's milk production, if you may decide not to breed her again?

That would definitely be a consideration. But, having said that, there are many causes for what happened, and it may very well not be repeated.

Ohh they do so good when they nurse but if they keep getting fed by humans with their formula or get back to Apples milk which is always the best 🐶👍🏻😇🫶❤️🙏
