I've bought myself a little gem. well, maybe its a gem, i'll find out soon enough! New car day is always exciting, despite me having had many TTs, i'm still really excited for this new one.
PART 2 HERE ------- • New Audi TT Part 2: St...
Please let me highlight, and amend a few mistakes. I didn't want to keep stopping and starting, so the mistakes stayed in for your chance to take the mick ;) I say splitter instead of spoiler, I say bi-xenon which is a bit of a Freudian slip as that a little project I have going on, and I missed off a few basics in my excitement!
Here a basic checklist that's geared towards the TT 8N 1.8T (most applies to the 3.2 aswell)
Suspension;
Are the springs the same height? Sometimes the facelift and pre-facelift springs are mixed up between front and back, leading to a big variance in arch gap, sometimes the springs snap and lose a coil or 2. The front wishbone bushes are easily visible, look out for the wishbone not sitting centrally in the subframe gap. Rear Tie bars are a weak point if the rose joints are seized, they also rust easily, so just have a quick look.
Windows- do they drop a small amount when you open the door? If not then the microswitch is playing up, which means the car doesn't know you've opened the door. This means the car will lock itself if you don't start the car, so be careful where you leave your keys! Side note- if you just pop the boot on the key fob, then close the boot with your keys in the boot, you're scerewed!
Rust? common arreas are around thr front wheel arch, and either end of the sills. Expect to see rust on the underside, like on the subframes and suspension components, after all the salt on the roads is a killer!
Engine bay. does it sound healthy? Are the revs steady, or do they fluctuate? if the engine sounds like mine in the video, then maybe walk away or certainly agree a reduced price -while the fix may be simple, it could also be quite costly. look for excessive oil around the engine, and round the injector seals. On the oil dipstick ,the hatched area is the minimum and maximum zone, so if at cold the oil is above or below, then you've got to question how well it's been looked after.
Dashpod. lines missing, gauges all over the place, warning lights. lines/pixels missing and gauges incorrect is fairly easy to sort, budget around 150 for the repair if sending it away, that is if you're confident in removing it. if not factor in garage costs for them to do the work, approx half hour out and half hour back in.
Cambelt. Yes, i know, you should check this on any vehicle, but on the TT the schedule was revised after premature failures. Its advisable to have it changed every 50,000 miles or 5 years, which ever comes first. Factor in £300 if it needs doing and you want me to do it (***Prices may change, don't tryr and hold me to this price in 2030***) or around £400 if you want to pay over the odds and take it to a garage, £5-600 if you want to go to Audi themselves.
Clutch. Try and pull away in 4th gear, like you would normally in 1st gear. It should stall. If it doesn't, then its worn. Then you're talking big money to sort, with Clutch and flywheel and all associated parts around £800-£100 depending where you go (again, i'm the cheapest)
If you have a code reader, then you should know what you're looking for with that. If not, get one- they are an essential investment if you plan on owning a TT!
Again, i'm sure i've missed things, but between this list, the video, and online lists, you should be armed with enough knowledge to decide whether or not to buy the next TT you view.
Tune in next time as i start to tackle the faults

You should check the wheel arches behind the plastic covers for dirt. Mine were full of it when I bought it. Looking forward to new videos.

This is an excellent, to the point, checklist. Looking at a 180 in two days time. This will help extensively, myself being a newbie to the TT. Top marks fella. Have subscribed with notifications on. Cheers :)

You have so many great videos... I’m doing my best to view every single one. Earlier I watched one where you clean a few of the hoses out of gunk and one of the valve/baffle things and it fixed the cold start factor. My TT is getting harder to start cold, but perfect when it’s warmed up. If you can think of the video I’m trying to describe please post a link to it. Lols.. you have so many video it’s a real search to find. 😐😂😂😂 Your feed back will be greatly appreciated.🙏🏻😎🤜🏼🤛🏼🍀🍀🍀🇦🇺

Commun issues are hazard switch, light switch, breaky coolant pipes, cluster failure, heated seats, doorlock switch, failing shelf, ignition coils, heatshield washers under the car, and for the right hand drive snaping clutch pedal.

My coil sprinthas just snapped..fu**ing speed bumps...and I go slow over them. I have a 190hp 2006 model in silver. One major thing is engine mount bolts..they are prone to shear off. Check timing belt as well.

Just in the process of buying a 225. The mirror switch is broken off, can't get the seats to adjust in height and there in condensation in the drivers side headlight. When I pop the gear lever out of 6th it doesnt naturally fall back centre. These easy fixes? Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks
@protonicstorm7228
@protonicstorm7228 4 жыл бұрын
Mirror switch can be replaced, the condense in headlight, a little condense is normal as the headlight is not air tight as the access cover has air vents in it, So check to see if the cover is fitted correctly and that it's seal is ok and is not allowing water in the headlight, use a hair dryer to dry the headlight out and see if the condense comes back ? As for the gear stick no centralising ? re lubricate with silicone spray the 2 springs at the base of the gear stick, and re lubricate the 2 shift cables on top of the gearbox. There is also a spring inside the shift tower on the gear box, in neutral the tower should be able to move up and down freely. Also with checking that nothing in the engie bay is rubbing against the gear / cable mechanism ie loose wires and hoses etc.

Mines under heating goes up to.90 sat when I grt going drops to 50 70. My revs up and down a bit and car seems sluggish. It's a nightmare so want to love the car just so.underwhelemed at the min. Can't do it myself so it's costing a fortune at garage's. And they say its fine even though it threw a code for coolant problem and recirc. So hard to find a garage that doesn't just rip you off.

@@BWSTT I'm in lincs m8 where abouts are you? I just want someone with a clue like you to just have a look and tell me. It just had 1200 quid spent on 2.resr springs which look wrong massive arch gap, 2 front control arms 2 front tyres which are the cheapest shit you can buy and had cambelt done and pump and the coolant .... coolant doesn't even look like its been touched I'm worried they've not even done thr cambelt. Can they change thr water pump without draining coolant? Coolant looks orange not pink n new. Dont know how people can rob people like this. I've got a 20 year old csr it's obvious I'm not in thr money haha. It feels like it wants to pull then doesn't pull hard . Cheers for the reply m8
