There is a bracket that goes over the needle position control lowering it below the notches to allow smooth changes. It fastens under the lock screw to the left of the width control.

Love your videos. They have been very helpful. I'm in need of a new belt for mine, which is same as one on this machine. Where can it be purchased or will I have to go to one of the cogged belts?

Well-timed video. I just bought one with a wonder wheel in a cabinet last week! It is waiting for me when I go to visit my family in Chicago. Can't wait.

If you have the wonder wheel wires it would be great to have diagrams with dimensions to reproduce them accurately.

I just rescued one like this (sans the wonder wheel)😭 it was locked up. A little oiling and massaging got it freed up. Got a new belt and foot pedal ordered. Not capacitors inside its an actual transformer. The light as well as the motor run off the secondary winding (in low) in high the motor runs off line voltage bypassing the transformer.

An update... I installed the belt, bought a 6ft 13A extension cord to reperpose and a new plug end. To wire up the pedal. It RUNS GREAT!

It would be so helpful if you had playlists on your channel. I’m having trouble finding the cabinet video for this machine. I recently brought a head home and am trying to figure out how the light plug should be and the foot controller. I only have the head, motor power cord and light cord attached as in this video.

If you have the rods it would be great to publish some dimensions and diagrams to reproduce them.

Nice idea Daphne. I only have one rod sadly. On the lookout for its matching 'other'.

Picked on up a couple of weeks ago. I've cleaned and lubes only to discover she was missing her power cord. I'll have to figure that out before I can hear her run. I like the power of the motor. I also have a Kenmore 158. that has a 1.5 amp motor. Bring on the leather!

We have a Necchi BU Mira. We are thinking of getting rid of it, but after looking around on KZbin I wonder if we would be wise to keep it for our daughter. She is currently using a Baby Lock. Is there even a comparison in the quality? Maybe after the Baby Lock breaks we should give her the Necchi. We also have the wonder wheel and cabinet. We think it worked 30 years ago but has not been used since then.
@VintageSewingMachineGarage4 жыл бұрын
As far as modern machines go, Babylock is a good brand. But like all current digital machines, its lifespan will be limited by the delicate nature of electronics/digital motherboards and the tendency of companies to keep software and even hardware proprietary which keeps repair prices high and encourages repeat purchasing and discourages repair. A Necchi Bu Mira is literally of Heirloom quality. FYI, its crucial to have the machine inspected/overhauled before she uses it. When machines sit for long periods, they need servicing to 'wake' them up and prepare them for service. All electricals should be checked as power cords often are dry rotted which can happen on any machine. Some people like to have both a new machine paired with a vintage model such as this to broaden the possible projects and fabric weights they can work with.

@@VintageSewingMachineGarage Yesterday we took the Necchi to the sewing machine store for servicing. :) We came really close to offering it for sale. We'll be glad we are keeping it.

Can you use sew through lather?
@VintageSewingMachineGarage2 жыл бұрын
Most vintage models can sew light weight garment leathers. Anything more dense should be stitched with an industrial "walking foot" style machine.

I just picked up a BU (I believe a predecessor to this one) and it needs a re-wire. Mine also needs a good clean, it's got quite a bit of mold on it but the paint looks in quite good condition underneath. Will sewing machine oil take care of the mold safely?
