The biggest advantage of hydrogen combustion is that we could hypothetically retrofit existing cars to run on it. A new fleet of nuclear reactors could also generate huge amounts of H2 while also generating electricity. You could potentially give the H2 away for free or at a ridiculously low price.

Hydrogen gas is the easiest fuel to make an engine run on... but optimization can be a daunting task, especially with your engine. Your first upgrade needs to be an ignition system that allows you to tune the advance curve and the dwell timing. Hydrogen gas produces an extremely fast flame front speed, and the ignition timing needs to be tunes so that your peak cylinder pressures occur at peak torque angle (a specific point of piston travel where the force of the piston produces peak torque to the crankshaft). Your next advancement should come in the form of independent mixture/induction rate. Hydrogen has a very wide combustible AFR (air-fuel ratio) much like diesel. Induction throttling should only be used to limit idle speed, so that you aren't wasting valuable fuel capacity in no-load applications. The AFR can be adjusted in minimal fuel increments linear to induction opening until open throttle is achieved, then simply use the hydrogen flow alone as your throttle control. Thanks to the flame front speed, you can achieve some unbelievably slow idle speeds with this method (well below -1.5bar [-20psi] vacuum has been seen in some V8 engines).

Have you tried separating the cathode and anode during the electrolysis duty cycle stage and storing the gasses individually for mixture variations? You could also utilise o3 (ozone generator on eBay) in condensed forms much in the same way an ICE uses booster fuel additives. To separate gases on the fly simply use two containers with a bend linking each from the bottom.

It's hammering because the hydrogen ignition is igniting the oxygen. However the oxygen explosion driving down the piston is counter acted by the emplosion of the hydrogen reaction which is sucking the piston back up half threw the compression stroke. The motor can not run at high speed very long before it destroys itself. If your using hydrogen only it must be fired at 10° after bottom dead center of the compression stroke. Hydrogen engines pull the piston up and pull the crank around. Gas and deisl explosive engines push the piston down and push the crank around. There opposite in operation but alike in function.

I really can't understand why they didn't just develop hydrogen combustion instead of Electric. With hydrogen they wouldn't have had to build a whole new infrastructure, they'd have simply been able to convert the existing one to store hydrogen in place of existing fuels and existing petrol engines could be easily converted to run on liquid hydrogen. Hydrogen has far more energy density then petrol and when burned in an engine, the only byproduct that comes out the exhaust is water vapour. Clean internal combustion would be a win win if you ask me, The petrol engine gets to stay forever which for people like myself who love the petrol engine would make very happy, and with a new renewable fuel it wouldn't emit anything other than water👌😁 Even when they can no longer sell brand new Internal combustion engine vehicles, I think the petrol engine will be around alongside Electric for decades yet. It's only new combustion vehicles that are banned from sale from 2035 in the UK, nothing says that used ones can't be sold and used still 👍

EVs certainly won't be going anywhere, but there are literally _so_ many IC vehicles on the road and the ability to make them cleaner will only get better. Plus, hydrogen technology is rapidly moving foward and the infrastructure is there. By the time we're weaned off fossil fuels, hydrogen on a mass scale will be feasible to use in new and even existing vehicles.

I could understand the room for power/longevity using a more energy dense come from using hydrogen in an internal combustion engine but I would be worried about a reduced service life of the engine from the formation of H2O when hydrogen is burned with oxygen just like you said. Water and oxygen just has no business in any engine. Unless you get an engine that does not have any ferrous qualities such as one made from aluminum that isn't nearly as susceptible to rusting compared to an engine made of steel. Of course for a trade off in requiring more downtime because of aluminums lower melting point. A possible and realistic improvement to be made. I still think this is a pretty cool project though. Makes me think of how they would do stuff to their fuel in top fuel racing for drag racers. Not that they do in fact use hydrogen.

Look I'm all for saving yours but I'm also a fabricator I understand the concept and it's a great concept because it works because all you need is fuel in a combustion engine to make it run it's just controlled explosions but if you're going to save the Earth you need to know all the chemicals that hurt the Earth and you need to know the chemicals that your engine produces that hurt the Earth you should have already known this you should have already found this in your research methane is horrible in the atmosphere it's the most leading thing we are dealing with but you and all your wisdom and all these other people converting these engines over to hydrogen seem to forget that H2 combustion can produce dangerously high levels of nitrogen oxide (NOx). Two European studies have found that burning hydrogen-enriched natural gas in an industrial setting can lead to NOx emissions up to six times that of methane (the most common element in natural gas mixes) There are numerous other studies in the scientific literature about the difficulties of controlling NOx emissions from H2 combustion in various industrial applications. So really do your research next time you people want to save the planet because you're in fact hurting it more than you are saving it you can't see the forest for the trees!
@Hydrogenguys
@Hydrogenguys 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, you are correct! the only emission from burning pure hydrogen gas is Nitrogen oxide (NOx), like you said, it's because of the nitrogen in the atmosphere. this is however no more than a conventional petrol engine as it still consumes the same amount of air. If anything it's actually a little less amount of air because the hydrogen gas is less dense than liquid fuel so it takes up more volume in the cylinder. importantly there are no carbon emissions from burning the Pure hydrogen gas so this is a big win for hydrogen, sadly it's less efficient. Some ways to reduce the nitrogen oxide (NOx) in hydrogen combustion engines would be water injection to reduce the thermal NOx formation, EGR, and a catalytic converter designed for NOx. Hope this helps clear some things up and thanks for the comment.

@@bigsteve6729 nah it doesn't contract, I think Señor @John White is confusing gravimetric with volumetric. Hydrogen still follows the gas laws and Carnot theorem in an ICE engine. The low volumetric energy density of Hydrogen gas generates a problem with normally aspirated combustion engines in the form of reduced power output for a given displacement in comparison to much higher volumetric energy dense fossil fuels.

The engine or internal combustion engine "i.c.e". is at the similar regular everyday rpm, so similarly close "effort to work". I've been invited by Boeing aircraft company immediately after high school after wining the states tek school competition in architecture drawing and design. I asked the top architecture department executive of Boeing who invited m,e, if many less tones of fuel replaced with a secondary "hydrogen fuel made on board system" was possible? No, he replied. I wanted to really make sure the fuel costs would be lowered, and better safety since the many tones of fuel saved allowing easier airworthiness. No, you're ahead of your time, we're not doing that quite yet". (Something close to those words.) Decade's of worrying watching knowing pilot's constant concerns of having enough fuel allowed for flights and "what if" they had to circle miles around when ever airport tower controls told them to wait for clearamce to land. The recent years Boeing aircrafts crashed and over worked computers were partly blamed and nothing was detailed on media about over weight "heavy class" aircraft's pilot's constantly concerned with fuel efficiency or enough supply. The home made hydrogen was made in high school in our science class and it was the high profit selling points I tried to make for Boeing's architecture top executives to consider what the safest fuel could be and less heavy aircraft weights. Sad to see so much "profit over people's interests". Again. EVs are much less maintenance than conventional cars internal combustion engine "ice" cars. A million miles with very little motor wear down and the environmental benefits. Insurance costs are lower too. Charging infrastructure is far better with Tesla since 20% of some EV brands 9f Charging stations are our of order. Often times vandalism of unfair people. The electric vehicles "EVs" have monstrous demand because of very few moving parts and lower cost of ownership after only a few years and many people just buy (recently cheaper) Solar Panels to charge the house and the EVs as so many owners found Nissan leaf great value and upgraded to Tesla because of best customer experience. Or to resell for 2 or 3 times the same price to other countries who are paying much higher cost for Teslas. Tesla opened one of it's very few stores next to our small town home office and friends are demanding we step up our weekend car shows hobby with better golf carts "mini EVs" so Safepath Solarcars is actually possible and made in the USA is hopefully another selling point. We're seeing history in the making, effecting many primitive outdated technologies. Friends, past and present Tesla employees are only happy to help learning more simpfied systems to improve. 25 instant assembly line changes a week and other automakers still can't dream of such improvements until the next model year. Other automakers are trying hard to catch up with Tesla but they're getting farther ahead fast because SpaceX and other technology companies are only part of Tesla "gigafactory". "The new type of factory is simply half of the product"

It takes far more electricity to generate hydrogen via electrolysis than you could make with a hydrogen power generator. This is why you don't have cars running on water - the electrical cost is too high and is just a middleman in terms of electric generation.

Home made hydrogen made with metal plates in water is called "water electrolysis" with battery wires as seen in many similar KZbin videos explaining water electrolysis devices and "Natural gas hydrogen" is same as a BBQ using Natural Gas tank too. It's not hard to try a few times until you or with friends get better results trying various types of "water electrolysis" models to see better results in each ongoing refinements to improve results. Try try try is how innovative products are made. Thinking about it and getting use to trying simpler devices makes it fun to share with friends and even a market if you can store home made hydrogen in air tanks same as any Natural Gas tanks selling for profits but your product can outsell easily at cheaper prices 😊
