27 years ago today, my husband took his life beside me in bed. I played this song endlessly after he died. There are some things a soul never recovers from, and this is one of those things. My darling, Derek…how I miss you so. I wish you could have stayed. Thank you for letting me love you. I’ve missed you every day for 27 years and will miss you every day until we meet again. 💔

I am sure that many people who have faced loss and grief have found solace and comfort in this beautiful song. A loss like yours is something from which it is almost impossible to recover, and is carried and endured like a heavy burden on an uneven road. Whilst there will be times when it feels almost too hard to continue, take comfort in knowing that when it is time for you to go to your rest, Derek will be waiting for you in the light.

I sang this song in the middle of the San Raphael desert in memory of my grandmother who had recently passed. The cold, dark night was warmed by a fire, and the stars that she was now a part of. In the end, there is only love.

She wrote this herself-she is impeccable and THIS should be the song sung 200 yrs from now in her native Ireland (and elsewhere) as a standard. Forget Nothing Compares 2 U. This is her immaculate mark.

This is my favorite of songs she's written. Even before I'd lived through the deepest of loves and the deepest of griefs as an adult, I already knew (as a young person not ready to acknowledge abuse I'd lived through as a child) that this song was for me. It fit in that place in my heart I thought was disconsolate. Now, after Sinead's passing, it fills me more. The emptiness is greater, but so is my awe of her. I try to remember like a person, one who lived a complicated life like so many people do, but I hear her song this, and all I can remember is an angel on earth. She sang to us.

Unfortunately beating a pillow or stuffing your face Into it and yelling your head off is at best a temporary relief/release of anger>frustration>hurt. If the problem continues to exist and negatively affect you these "anger management" techniques only serve to put off the inevitable whatever things may come to. the bad part is often it's the one who has suffered all along and the most that ends up getting punished. I dream of the moment in the spider man movie where he punches the other guy and the bullet flies across the floor several feet. the person in the background says who are you. Like where the hell did you come from? FYI I've been here all along. You've just sat there laughing, playing along or ignoring my suffering while I was miserable. F u 2

So beautiful. As a fellow singer who happens to be blessed/cursed with perfect pitch, I am very impressed with how she held the notes throughout the song and didn't go off key. When she sings, there is such peace in her voice. It is not forced. It is a fully formed, perfect instrument. Singers like Sinead are rare gems to be cherished. It is hard to sing with such control when doing something without any accompaniment whatsoever, boy do I know it. There is a desire to rush because you are so utterly exposed and all attention is on you, but she doesn't give in to that fear, and thus her performance is one of breathtaking beauty.

I played a recording of this song at my wife's funeral 25 years ago as it so clearly expressed my anguish and grief at that time. I have just listened to it again today on what would have been our 50th wedding anniversary and I am more than grateful to find that my choice of a funerary tribute song then was and is still the correct one.

Apparently, Sinéad took her own life. Sometimes, feeling too much is just overwhelming... unbearable. I've been struggling with that same temptation for my hole life, since I was a very little kid. Now I'm 47. Ten years of therapy and 20 years of buddhism have helped a lot. BUT, it's like living with a monster that's always breathing down your neck, whispering in to your ear. And you just can't never be sure if some day you will just give in. Thank you for all the beautiful music Sinéad. I hope that on the other side you'll find all the love and pace you deserve.
@aser75 Жыл бұрын
thank you for your words and thoughts. I can very much relate to your feelings, Im also strugled/struggling with the same feelings from my teens to my mid 40's .But in the last few years (I'm 48 now) something has changed inside, the monster is far away, small and weak. I'm not sure why it happed, maybe it was finally "maturing", maybe another process, maybe losing my beloved father and caring for him in his last year ... I don't know. but there is hope! stay strong.
