I’ll say it again: ENEMIES TO LOVERS IS DONE RIGHT WHEN THERE IS AT LEAST MUTUAL RESPECT BETWEEN RIVALS (as in “Oh, you’re my a rival now because I acknowledge that you have talent and prowess in wielding swords, I can’t wait to fight you”)
@anonymous-zs9rn2 жыл бұрын
Or if there's disrespect, it's either for a good (perceived) reason, or it's explicitly treated as a character flaw and the character learns better and changes throughout the course of the story. Pride and prejudice does this well, with darcy disrespecting Elizabeth because of his flaw, pride, and Elizabeth disrespecting him back because of his earlier behaviour and her own flaw, prejudice. And they both grow and learn from it, they start to respect each other and it's actually believable when they start falling in love. But very few stories do this well, most of them either have no reason for conflict or the reason is way too big (bullying, abuse, bigotry, even just completely different ideals) that it's extremely difficult to make the change from enemies to lovers seem organic and realistic to the characters.

@@highsun76 I'm not middle eastern/north African or American and I personally feel that religion started these wars and instead of intervening and stopping, America just decided to make money off of it. As a non-American, it's very visible how their left is just as bad as their right. Donald Trump, whose own father immigrated from Germany due to some issues, wants to stop immigrants and Ilhan Omar, who herself left her home country due to Islam extremism doesn't think that extremism in Islam exists. Imo, Luke's storyline could've complimented Cassie's better. I mean, hers is steeped in commentary on the failures of the US health care system while he just owes money to someone. There's missed potential to comment about issues like homeless vets and untreated PTSD. The movie could have commented on two major overlooked government failures, making their situations parallel/relfect each other better. I feel like it would have made for a more interesting dynamic between them; they would've found common ground in shared hardships and a common foe. Or at the very least, they could've given Cassie a flawed personality that Luke positively influenced while she changed his political views and made him kinder.

@moonstrifflimestone5493 Жыл бұрын
A cute opposites attract, enemies to lovers story I'd recommend (although they're not really 'enemies' so much as they couldn't get along) is Lunar New Love by Ophelia Silk. It's a "fake dating trade-off", in which Minh asks Cass to be their fake partner for Tet Holiday. Cass agrees in the condition that they join her in another fake date the next day, to one up her shitty ex. They're rocky acquaintances at first, part of the same friend group but not managing to mesh well, but over the book they grow closer and it's really cute. The story is about how people aren't "too hard" to love. If it sweetens the deal, the book has: Vietnamese rep (Minh is Vietnamese and a large part of the book centers around their Vietnamese family, culture, and tet holiday itself). Nblnb (Minh is unlabeled, hovering somewhere around agender, and Cass is genderfluid) Adhd rep (Minh has adhd, and it's referenced many times. It's partly responsible for them resolving to get a fake date, as well as playing a part in their main internal struggle (feeling like they're too complicated/hard to be loved)) Cass is a poet! And there's some bashing of France. Very cute book, I'd reccomend!

On one hand I'm totally down for the idea of a fake couple scamming the military, on the other hand why did they have to go for political differences lol
@misssteak12902 жыл бұрын
@@withcindy honestly political differences would've been a good concept had it been executed better. they could have had a scene where they have meaningful conversations about their political differences. but instead they squandered their time cramming in crappy tropes and trying to convince the viewers that this couple has chemistry

Ah, yeah, the good old compromise. Her giving up everything she believed in, and him accepting that she did that in exchange. Also love how he is the one heroically sacrificing himself when he got everything her needed out of the marriage already but she still needs him. She really has a lot of options left for her.

the fact that so many people are missing the fact that this is straight up military propaganda (apparently the U.S. military was involved in production?? need to find more sources),,,, and it's WORKING? the number of tiktok girlies saying "i may have to rethink my stance on military men" as if that's wasn't the movie's goal in the first place 🤡

NOOOOOO THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT

US military is often involved with movies which depicts them. It's usually a I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine situation. The military wants to make sure they are portrayed positively (or at least neutrally) and accurately, meanwhile the movie producers get to borrow assets, props and military consultants in exchange. Imo it's most probable that the writers had already written a script which is very pro-military, then got the military involved after the fact.

How can this be working? I just found it funny/uncomfortable that it's military propaganda and yet it lent right in to all the negative stereotypes progressive people have about the military.

@@ktm9292 i hope movies show the negative "stereotypes" of the military. the military has caused so much harm and they continue to do so. they raped thousands of women in Iraq, assaulted Iraqi minors and killed a girl and her entire family. they also bombed an island in hawai'i until it was inhabitable and continue to occupy the islands to this day. why should we be grateful for them?

They wanting to rethink their stance based on THIS movie?! Is there a director's cut I'm not aware of that gave this guy any kind of redeeming qualities?

Watching this as a type 1 diabetic is torture because they don't even portray it accurately. She showed the symptoms for a low while treating a high, taking insulin with those symptoms would most likely lead to a quick death but they totally did their research right? Also very funny they pretend her likely pro military conservative fan base wouldn't dump her ass the second he got arrested.

the one positive rep they could have had wasnt even accurate LOL

As someone who's SO just got out of the military, they would not care about a "fake" marriage. There were two guys in my partners squadron that literally married each other just for the benefits, and everyone knew and didn't care.
