Man...look I know rotties are vocal. I know many times they pur...but this dog is uncomfortable. He by no means is dangerous....thats is a loving complaint. He is basically saying...JUST FREAKING PET ME I DONT WANT TO KISS YOU. He is vocalizing displeasure. I am telling you most you people are crazy. The fact that youre not bitten more is a testimony to their patience. Rotties dont like it...at ALL...when you put your face in theirs. Everyone says they a purring....no...they are grumpy lovers. This dog wpuld never bite his owners...but he aint happy either. People please be careful...yes they vocalize a lot, but they are emotionally complex animals.

Purring is actually perfectly fine, but people need to know the difference between a Rottie purr and a Growl. This does, clearly, appear to be a growl and not a purr. Here’s the behavioral differences. I’ve been posting this everywhere. 1. **Ears**: - **Purring**: Relaxed, slightly back or neutral position. - **Growling**: Pinned back tightly or standing up and forward. 2. **Eyes**: - **Purring**: Soft, relaxed, partially closed. - **Growling**: Wide open, intense, showing whites. 3. **Mouth**: - **Purring**: Relaxed, slightly open, tongue visible. - **Growling**: Closed or slightly open, lips pulled back, showing teeth. 4. **Body posture**: - **Purring**: Relaxed, loose, lying down or leaning. - **Growling**: Tense, stiff, standing rigidly or defensive posture. 5. **Tail**: - **Purring**: Relaxed, slow wagging or neutral position. - **Growling**: Stiff, held high or tucked between legs.

This specific Rottie doesn’t seem very content, so I can’t be certain if it’s purring based on the length of the video. Purring does not happen during unhappy moments is what I will add, so if your dog is growling during an unhappy moment that is bad behavior that should be trained and worked on with time and patience and a specialist in dog behavior.

You got to be very careful with this type of thing my advice is if dog is not relaxed not leaning on you and pauses to what you're doing by giving you a side eye look and slow movement away from you while growling then stay away the rumble is soft and they're not curling their mouth too much then it probably is a rumble rather than a growl trying to show affection

Nah.. my little jack russell does this too.. and yea its funny.. but i promise you hes over stimulated and on the verge of biting this woman on the nose. Its the repetitive kissy sound that gets my dog in this growling licking state. His smile and nose licking suggests hes stressed out but also doesnt want to be a bad dog. If youre lucky he wont eventually snap and bite your nose or lip... But eventually, probably youll get bit in the face and think *i knew i shouldnt keep doing that and I did it anyway* 🤣🤣. I did this every now and again for a couple years before i finally caught my dog on a bad day and then ended up wirh a bleeding lip 🤷🤷

I’m actually going to correct you on this one, Jack Russel’s and Rotties are entirely different breeds with completely different behavioral needs. Rotties display a behavior, you should research, called purring. Jack Russell’s do not display purring behaviors which is why yours growls and doesn’t purr. Here’s a list of behavioral differences in purring and growling. 1. **Ears**: - **Purring**: Relaxed, slightly back or neutral position. - **Growling**: Pinned back tightly or standing up and forward. 2. **Eyes**: - **Purring**: Soft, relaxed, partially closed. - **Growling**: Wide open, intense, showing whites. 3. **Mouth**: - **Purring**: Relaxed, slightly open, tongue visible. - **Growling**: Closed or slightly open, lips pulled back, showing teeth. 4. **Body posture**: - **Purring**: Relaxed, loose, lying down or leaning. - **Growling**: Tense, stiff, standing rigidly or defensive posture. 5. **Tail**: - **Purring**: Relaxed, slow wagging or neutral position. - **Growling**: Stiff, held high or tucked between legs.

These comments are ridiculous at times . Absolute rockets suddenly becoming dog specialists , oh he moved his eye kid two inches , a clear sign that he will rip a face off , what and absolute pile of nonsense . Yeah he’s super aggressive standing there being fawned over not attempting to move away or get away and licking his owner for a kiss . That dog showed not one bit of aggression in any way. To me what happens here is some ppl confuse the growl for aggression and then when that’s pointed out it’s not at all they start to just make stuff up.

My Rottie does the same thing. Teeth bearing, snarling while licking my face. I’ve had lots of Rotties and they all did this to some degree. Would never hurt a fly, but he’ll give love growls any time you touch him. I should clarify, wouldn’t hurt a fly unless it was breaking into our house or threatening to hurt his parents. Then he will absolutely eat the fly.
