They have to do something to hold e-bike riders accountable. I had one that was inebriated while on the phone go through a red light and hit the side of my car. This resulted in thousands of dollars in damages but he didn’t contribute one red cent and there was no consequence.

Cars are several orders of magnitude more dangerous than ebikes. The reason ebikes weave in traffic and sometimes go on the sidewalk is because there isn't any dedicated space for bicycles on most streets. The solution is to take space away from cars (who currently use 90% of the street space) and give it to wide protected bicycle lanes. Registering ebikes would not be a successful program because it's too easy to not comply. Designing safer streets will make it safer for everybody.

I have over 8000 miles of experience on e-bikes and e-scooters and haven’t gotten into a single crash. I would say I’m an experienced safe ride. This is a pathetic attempt to scape goat e-bikes instead of the MIGRANTS who are abusing class 3 e-bikes by breaking the road laws recklessly. Migrants are the root problem. As soon as they crash, they simply upgrade to mopeds and the cycle continues.
