My mom's Aunt would have severe vertigo attacks but that was back in the 1940s and in the early mid-1980s when I was in grade school I would randomly get black spots in my vision (never vertigo) and then in 2001 I was in a vehicle rollover. In 2006 I had my first vertigo attack...... So the doctor is not sure whether my attacks were hereditary or from head trauma.. but even he came right out and said we don't know the true cause of Meniere's disease and there certainly is no cure as of yet
