Pushing the limits - Kayak fishing in Deepwater 8km offshore

I start a very big grind to tick off a Hapuku, on this trip the weather smiles upon me and we get out farther than we have ever before.
What sort of fish do you think i'll catch in this deep-water?

My max i’ve done is 10km offshore solo, gets a bit dangerous out further , if there aren’t a heap of boats in the area. Hopefully push to 15 for that puka / tuna this summer 🤘

Its definitely convenience , obviously i was using big fresh natural baits for the big rig but anything smaller . Whats the point of using smelly pilchard anymore ? 😅

That must have been that 3-4 day window week before last? There's another one on the cards this coming weekend, half meter or less swell and zero wind till the Centre of that high moves past. Kayak carrier won't be done yet so I'll be stuck landbased.

You ever get the feeling that going offshore fishing in a plastic kayak makes you look an awful lot like a top water bass plug to sharks?

I don't think I've ever thought about it that way, the few sharks i have interacted with have always been chill towards the boat even if they want to eat my fish.
