Another tip that removes stains from white clothing is to spray the stain with a can of white spray paint. Be sure to shake the can before use, also it may take several coats if the stain is set. Besides aspirin, you can throw in some anti depressant medication. I've been adding them to my laundry and my clothes have a much brighter outlook.

A 1/4 cup of baking soda in the wash will eliminate odors from clothing. Wipe out odors and buildup of fabric softener in the dryer with a spray of half vinegar and water. Then, wipe dryer walls dry. Remember the inside of the door. Gently wash lint screen with warm, soapy water and a soft brush to remove build up of lint and fabric softener. Rinse well and allow to air dry.

We've been hanging our laundry for decades. All my housemates and my tenant use the laundryline. We have a great dryer, but hanging clothes out in the sunshine and breeze is the way to go. The tried and true method for keeping your washer from smelling (especially front loaders) is to put 1/2 cup vinegar in the fabric softener cup. Do this every time you do a load of laundry and you won't have the stink. The vinegar also cuts any soap residue on clothes, and I have never had my clothes smell like a pickle when they come out.

I've been using dye and scent free Clorox2 for a long time on whites and color clothes forever. I also use a scent and dye free detergent and fabric softener and have never had an issue with clothes stretching or having stains that wont come out. Another thing that can be used that's super cheap is Peroxide added to the wash. I know a lot of people that do it, works great on whites and colors as an additive to your other detergents to lift stains and odors.

If you have a front loading washing machine, don't do this under any circumstance. Front loading machines have a zinc conection rods for the barrel. Asprin will help eat those rods up and break. Never use anything in a front loader except HE detergents. It is made to inhibit the destruction of those rods and connectors.

THANK YOU! However, I do use vinegar, for the first washing of bright colors, like red. I put the vinegar in the liquid bleach tray, and wash and dry as usual. BTW, we wash using only cold water. Helps save costs, plus, it reduces shrinking. Heavy loads, like sheets and towels, or denims and sweatshirts, I wash on the heavy cycle, but still in cold water. It really helps to protect things like elastic, or anything that has a touch of lycra or nylon. Started doing this after I washed a pair of dungarees and a sweatshirt, only to have them come out "shorter" than when I put them in! Who wants their denim boot-legs to look like crop pants? Or a sweatshirt that only reaches the waist. (Not as warm that way). Plus, we dry everything on "Low". And if you want to have a nice, warm towel after you have a shower, or a warm, cozy sweatshirt or hoodie, just put them in the dryer on low (or medium) for about 15 minutes. Take them right out and use them.

I avoid ironing at all costs! If my clothes stayed in the dryer too long and are now wrinkled, all I do is lightly spray water on them. I keep a sprayer bottle full of water on my dryer all the time. Then I just run the dryer for about 5 - 10 minutes and take my clothes out as soon as it stops. Voila! My clothes are "ironed" and no need to use the iron. :) You're welcome! :)

I can just remember laundry day when it was done in an outhouse. It took a whole morning just to get it washed. Buttons were regularly broken in the mangle. The whites were always brilliant. When twintubs came along laundry could be done more than once a week. It was possible to do the laundry at the same time as getting children fed and ready for school. Then after taking the little ones to school (walking them there) the washing just had to be hung on the line. Just time for a coffee before going to work. Now we poor women have to spend 17 minutes a day doing laundry? Does that include tumble drying or hanging on a washing line? I for one don't begrudge those 17 minutes. I quick tip. Keep your washing machine free of limescale by once a week putting a handful of soda crystals in the washing machine drum and do an empty wash at 60 degree

I got brown shoe dye out of a white shirt with my water pic. Just keep flushing the spot from the underside of garment with really cold water and don't rub the dye further in the fibers. Once the water started running clear, for good measure I put it in a basin, added a little oxyclean ( or generic equivalent) and covered it with ice cubes and let them melt on the spot. Since I got to the dye stain before it dried and didn't rub it in the fibers I got it all out.

It's because of people like me who only spend 3 minutes, we bring down the average. (1) don't sort. Sort BEFORE. When you take off you clothes, you don't mix them all in one pile, then sort them 8 hours later. One pile for the washer, one pile for hand wash. Everyone older than 7 and younger than 70 do their own hand wash. (2) dump everything in, pour detergent, 5s. (3) folding, it's all in how picky you are
@d.carter3850
@d.carter3850 4 жыл бұрын
It's 17 minutes per day. Not per load. Breaking it down per day makes no sense because no one can do laundry that fast. Therefore, the proper time interval should have been per week. 17 x 7 = 119 minutes a week, which is approximately 2 hours per week. This makes far more sense for a load of laundry since it is unlikely that anyone washes a load ever single day.

To remove blood, put paper towel or something you don't mind getting stained under cloth that has blood stain, pour hydrogen peroxide on the blood. After it stops bubbling, blot with paper towel. If stain remains, repeat. If hydrogen peroxide doesn't bubble when applied, there's nothing left for it to work on. I've never had the hydrogen peroxide remove color from anything I've tried this on, but TEST the fabric in an inconspicuous spot first. (Also works on grout and tile.) Learned this technique from an EMT.

To get the cleanest clothes ever, put a little lye in and only a little soap if any. Lye reacts with oils in the clothes to form soap, essentially. Probably wouldn't want to use it on delicate or lightly soiled stuff but really oily stuff can benefit. Just double rinse, or maybe put some lemon juice in the rinse to neutralize any remaining lye.

Teresa Vogt - I used vinegar (2 Cups) in the wash when I did my towels to get the built up fabric softener out of the towels. Fabric softener takes the softness out of towels after awhile. Wash on Hot. Do 2nd wash right behind it using 1/2 Cup baking soda. Dry in hot dryer. Use the same formula (vinegar in hot water) going forward and your towels will stay soft. Avoid the fabric softener if you want soft towels! BTW - no vinegar “salad” smell - just fresh, clean smell. Also this works well on sweaty gym clothes that smell. You May need to use warm or cold water but it will get the smell out! Teresa - I added your name to connect the subjects. I’m sure you probably know this already. Also agree about the low cost of using vinegar instead of detergent.

Iron? But that's a "4-letter word!" :-D In my house, any garment that says it needs ironing stays on the rack in the store! Ditto for hand-washing or dry cleaning. I've got better things to do with my time than fuss over pesky laundry procedures. Toss it in the wash and dryer; then back in the drawer or on the hanger, and done! The only time my iron gets used is to press open seams if I'm sewing, and, I don't sew much these days, so basically, my iron has become a dust catcher.

I even used a little plastic "gadget" that had "grippers" inside each of two holes. You were supposed to stick the toes (or perhaps even the upper part) of each sock and then wash. I was never happy with that. My husband, on the other hand, always tied his socks together as a pair when single, and he continues to do it to this day. I just "pair" mine by folding over the tops very gently before washing. Sometimes they come out separate, but at least I knew that I put both in to be washed. Keeps me from going nutso.

hey guys - lots of people assume there is room in anybody's house to do something which takes up lots of room! Guess what, if you live in an apt., there is no room! especially if some people work at home. maybe overnight? nope, some one works late and needs the shower (clothes in the tub). But, you do tell us we can add the aspirin to the washer - so thanks - great to know. :}

Great information, helpful great to know that there are alternatives to multinationals products that cost a small fortune. ?For you I have 1 dog and if I wash his rugs ( which are bathroom floor mats) then all my clothes are covered in dog hair. Companies are trying to tell me there is no such thing as a lint filter on a front loading washing machine. So is the dog hair just staying in the machine and then attaching to my clothes and is it just going straight down the drain to block my drain ???? HELP 🤬

If you're washing something delicate like a merino wool jumper (sweater to Americans!) it can be washed on the delicate cycle in your machine, using Wool Wash or laundry liquid for delicates, in warm water, in an underwear bag (will prevent it from being damaged). When washed , while still wet, roll in a thirsty towel and press all over to help absorb moisture. Then lay the garment flat on a thick towel, preferably away from sunlight and leave to dry naturally. Dont put it in the dryer, it will shrink. The jumper will last for a long time if you always wash this way.

I had some very beautiful but fragile 1860 year old baby linen which had gone yellow. Bleach would have destroyed it. I emptied a whole packet of asprin into a bowl and poured boiling water over it . I just left the garment in the bowl for a little while and all the yellow somehow vanished! I am dressing a family in 18th Century costume so am thrilled to have this for the baby. Am just about to starch it. Thank you so much for posting this!

I have always used vinegar in the rinse, and if I wanted to soak certain items such as towels and washcloths, after running them through a cycle would fill the washer with water and vinegar and let soak overnight. It removed soap residue and softened the towels. Also, I had someone deep clean my home and she used a 50-50 mix of vinegar and water on all surfaces - counters, floors, furniture - even antiques - windows, mirrors, etc. When I came home, there was no odor. It just smelled 'fresh', as if all the windows and doors had been open all day. After that, the majority of my cleaning is done with white vinegar, baking soda and water..

Lemon juice will do the same thing as aspirin. It's the citric acid in it. If you have a soaker sink simply put a cup of lemon juice in the water and let your whites soak for a few hours prior to laundering. If you put a cup in each washer load it will help keep your whites bright.

Oriental rugs ... if puppy has an accident (even if it has dried) ... liquid or solid ... 1/2 cup Vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon liquid dish soap (Dawn is my favorite) in a gallon of water, spray on rug (or using a rug shampooer is even better), let set about 15 minutes ... paper towels to soak it up (or a wet/dry machine) and the stains are gone. The one I did looked better than the day it was purchased (the owner never knew there were gold strands of thread through-out the rug until after I cleaned it).

For blood, dampen garnment with cool water. Pour salt on the stain and slowly dribble cool water on it just until salt is damp but still in a pile. (If you use too much water, just add more salt.) Place a bowl upside down over stain/salt to keep it from drying out. After 30 minutes, rinse and repeat until blood is out. (Dried blood will take longer to remove.) Wash as usual.

Using magnets duplicate the effect of soap by making water wetter. That is to say in the agitation movement makes the water molecule chains shorter (each H2O is a little magnet) by aligning the small H2O magnets to the poles allowing H2O to lift the soil out of the fabric. This application also reduces the drying time as the residue of detergent is absent allowing better air flow.
