PUT IN BAY LAKE ERIES ISLAND GEM

Situated just north of Sandusky and Port Clinton Ohio lies one of Lake Eries best features. These are the Lake Erie Islands. Today ill be visiting Put In Bay for the very first time, I invite you along for the journey to explore this amazing place along with me.

I used to live up there and when a hard wind blows in the same direction for several days you get this. Once we had an unusual South wind blow for days and when I went to the dock in the morning all the boats were hanging from their lines, lol.

The island isn't called Put-in-Bay. It's called South Bass Island. The town on the island is what's called Put-in-Bay.

Perry's monument is taller than the Statue of Liberty. People say it isn't but they don't realize the Statue of Liberty is on a 75-foot pedestal, and Perry's monument is on ground-level. The story of how it was built is very interesting. Most people also don't know there are stairs inside, in casre the elevator breaks, but it's only for emergencies.

never been to Florida but I can say the Great Lakes are awesome and way less humid than Florida. Yeah going to the Lake Erie islands makes you feel as though you are not in ohio.

Florida native and Sarasota county resident here. My parents are from Toledo and I have been to Put in Bay once about oh 15 years ago and it was a good time. It's not Florida by any means but you wont be sweating your nuggets off at least. I only wish I could have visited at night to enjoy the real party but I'm certain I will go back one day. Maybe I will plan a trip to Cedar Point with my friend and along the way hit up Put in Bay.

Fun fact, Put in Bay was Home to America's last offically sanctioned by the SCCA (and illegally sanctioned by the drivers and the island) Sports Car Road Races.

Yea there are many resorts and b&bs on the island but I’m sure they are all $$$$ your best and most cost effective thing to do is stay in port Clinton or Sandusky on the mainland.

I loved the cave and we were on our golf carts and went to see a little blue house and it had a wooded area that you went through and I saw a pair of beautiful deer , that was amazing and something I'll never forget.

Having lived near here my entire life I will correct you on one thing here. Put in Bay is NOT the island. Put in Bay is actually the village. The island name itself is South Bass Island. There's also a Middle Bass and North Bass and all 3 are inhabited islands along with Rattlesnake Island and the closest inhabited to the mainland are these 4. Actually Mouse Island is the closest to Miller Ferry but to my knowledge is not inhabited but I'm sure people have been on it before.

That is absolutely nothing for Lake Erie. Try getting caught out on a 23 foot fishing boat when a storm comes out of nowhere. Yeah, talk about leaving evidence in your pants as you go over 7-10 foot waves. 😂 yeah, haven’t been on the lake since, mostly cause I moved away but I’m not going back out there even when I do come home. Lol.

Oh I know as I grew up in Detroit and spent a lot of time visiting all the Great Lakes. Ever experience a snowicane? Well in Michigan you can. Extremely rare but terrifying.

Went here over the summer. Huge disappointment. The harbor and Shoreline is swarming with snakes, literally. The downtown area is essentially like the TV show Jersey Shore. Tons of drunk 20 something year olds starting problems. Never again!
