IFF we can establish competition between China & West to invest in Africa, that might prove beneficial. Before ISIS & other militant Islamists began occupying areas in Africa in the wake of U.S. invasion of Iraq, a key component of European renewable energy projects was substantial solar PV deployment in northern African deserts (which would act in concert with windpower plants in North Sea).

Thank you for having one of my absolute favorites. Pepe Escobar is the rock star of the global south, a reporter, world citizen, the closest to describing Pep Escobar as a classic explorer. It is impossible to get someone who has such good information and sources, within elites, diplomacy China, Iran, Russia, Turkey, France and not least South America. I can listen to Pep Escobar for hours, it's holistic, a journey from history to the present, between civilizations. Didn't understand until I listened to Pepe how important honor, values, respect and history are in Asia and West Asia in particular. Pepe said in a program that Russia refused to betray its ally Syria/Assad was recorded by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It is hard currency to keep agreements and words

Pepe has Britain slightly wrong but I can understand why. He summed up the establishment pretty well, but missed the point that they are almost universally despised by the people. Dissenting voices aren't sent to do hard labour in a gulag but they are crushed & silenced more effectively than anywhere I can think of. After peak cheap oil in the 80's when everyone in the West lived well, the system ran on cheap money via banking industry. Now it's hit the wall and energy rich countries Russia Iran with China, can possibly overturn this banking hegemony (UK USA based).

In USA, oil prices peaked '79-'80, did not decline until Reagan made agreement with House of Saud (think 2nd admin) to moderate prices, which (I think) then decreased through early 2000s. Then prices rose to peak again (2006-2008?), and were elevated until directional drilling combined with (hydro)fracing allowed exploitation of the remaining reserves in the Permian, and tight oil and gas in many other places (ca 2014-present).
