At the 11th of May, 2020, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia took an action regarding coronavirus restrictions. Not everything is clear as it contradicts with a decisions made by the heads of regions of Russia (like Moscow and St Petersburg), but looks like it is now goes into a free fall!

It's not such a surprise. Initially the lockdown was done because he didn't really know what would happen and did the same as every other country. Now he understands that not all the regions of Russia are requiring a quarantine, so he has handed the decision to the local authorities to make individual decisions. We live in Vladimir region and the self isolation has been extended until 30 may. Many people are saying that when there were only 5000 cases in Russia we had lockdown and when we have 150,000 cases we don't have lockdown. The places with many cases will remain on lockdown.
@nikkinanna1702
@nikkinanna1702 4 жыл бұрын
It seems to me that there're a federal lockdown and a regional lockdown. The lockdown that Pres. ended is the federal lockdown that imposed the same thing on the whole country isn't it? Like you said probable during the (federal) lockdown period, they see better picture where all those cases are, growth rate, trend, ability to handle the situation of each region, etc.. Pres.Putin also said different places have different situations. So wouldn't it be more reasonable to allow ease lockdown to green zone/region and impose more restriction to the red zone/region? Federal lockdown was lifted by the Pres. in order to allow each region to adjust more reasonable lockdown for themselves and I think it makes sense. If I remember it correctly there're 3 stages of ease lockdown. And for the region to be able to ease lockdown, it has to pass the criteria and follow the recommendations and guidelines of ministry of health so I guess this means it's still under federal supervision which is the right thing to do. So the ease lockdown process is certainly not free fall.

Many tens of thousands died defending the city when it was called 'Leningrad'. The name on the monuments to the Hero Cities is 'Leningrad'. Lenin wasn't Stalin or any of Stalin's epigones. Czar Peter killed thousands of peasants building the city for his own vanity; he was a bloody tyrant. That's the difference between a Pan-Slavicist and a Proletarian Internationalist. i hope that everyone in Russia is being safe, wearing masks (when not narrating a video), practicing social distancing and washing his hands constantly. I live in a US state that did not mandate the wearing of masks, and new coronavirus cases soared when it tried to open the economy back up and get people back to work. Now that most municipalities have mandated the wearing of masks in public places, and once again closed bars and clubs, there has been a slight reduction in the number of new hospitalizations for Covid 19, and one hopes that this trend will continue. I wish all in Russia well, and please stay safe!

The underlying message in the old architecture was to portray and signify that we the workers are people too who also want to live comfortably just like the elites, just like the oligarchs. Nobody was asking for the absolute redistribution of wealth, power and authority of The Commanding Heights to the people or to the workers (although ultimately, that is what happened, albeit symbolically), only for a system that was more fair and equitable. This same cry is getting louder even within the U.S. these days but is falling on deaf ears, on the obstinance of the old guard. That simple comfort was with held from the people, from the workers, from the proletariat for so long that these public works under the old Soviet system made sure that capital and resources for that matter were distributed in a more fair and equitable manner. As time went on though, what happened was that corruption and greed became rampant as supervisors, managers and directors lined their own pockets with the capital and resources of the nation, thus once again, nothing was any longer, getting back to the people as intended, so the system collapsed. The same scenario is occurring now, within the United States. I see many luxury cars, BMW, MB, even a Bentley, so many changes have occured since the downfall of that Party and fall of the Berlin Wall when the will of the people could no longer be ignored or contained. Changes are also occurring in the U.S. as many people are suffering in the current system and it no longer serves and hasn't served them for a very long time. Just as occurred in the 1917 Revolution (Czarist Russia) and later in the Politburo (Soviet Russia), the/our old guard are trying desperately to with hold fairness and an equitable distribution of capital and resources from the workers, from the people and the results will be disastrous and catastrophic. Even the forward guidance of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell (The/Our Commanding Heights) is being ignored and falling on deaf ears as he can see with extreme clarity, the disaster that our nation is careening toward at breakneck speed. We have a congress and another man (a spoiled, stupid and entitled toddler/child) in charge who refuse to listen to men of wisdom, protecting and fighting only for their own interests. It is a very sick situation. God help us.

You are right....it is stark but very beautiful. I’ll bet those apartments are gorgeous. Wonder what they cost there in that first building you said were apartments. And that arch thing at 6:18 is stunning. And you are also right about the lockdown. It was never meant to last forever and be a reason not to,work. It was to give hospitals time to bring in all the supplies they needed to fight the disease. And you can stay locked down for a year and come out and catch it....by the way, you’ve got some kinda scary clouds in this video. I’m not sure how you feel about Putin, but there are so many of us in USA who admire him and it is wonderful for the first time ever, to love a Russian President. During quarantine, firstly, they reduced the burden on the healthcare system, secondly, opened new hospitals for those who infected with coronavirus, thirdly, if you look at the distribution of the daily number of cases across the country, you will see that it has not changed significantly since May, 3 . However, Putin actually transferred responsibility for the situation to the level of local authorities; in each region, the lifting of restrictions will be introduced in stages, depending on local conditions. In fact, there is no cancellation of restrictions in St. Petersburg right now, on the contrary, the regime has been tightened due to masks and gloves.

Dudes, you often saying that you wanna know the news from a perspective of local. But then trying to correct me. What's this? I said it clear that two days before latest Putin's statement, restrictions in Moscow and St Petersburg were extended to 31st of May. But now Putin said "non-working holidays" are over. That's exactly what lockdown meant in Russia. Technically, he transferred responsibility to the local authorities. But here is important to know the way Russian authority works. For 20 years of an authority Putin taught people pretty clear that his word is the main. When he says something the regions always take it as a signal of direction. Same for an ordinary people. Now not many cares what the local mayor or governor is going to do. Have you saw it even in this video how many cars are immediately got into the streets. I saw the jams again yesterday. It was a first day when I saw the number of cars same as it was before the lockdown. I also saw how immediately people got to the streets and began posting the videos in their Instagram stories commenting like wow! Finally, it's a freedom! So that's why I said it was contradictory! You need to know all the specifics to understand now that now it's not makes sense what the local governors will say.

@@realrussiablog I can correct because I'm local. Since May 8, I expected what will be said in the decree of the St. Petersburg government, which was announced after the May holidays. Non-working days are over - in fact, this is all what Putin said. And what Putin said did not apply to me at all, since our company before did not interrupted working process, but simply transferred most of the staff to remote work. But the fine for the lack of personal protective equipment in public places by the decision of the city authorities - very much applies. So you be careful on the street without a mask, I wouldn't want you to have problems with the police :) However, nothing has changed for me; I am still at a remote work, with occasional visits to the office, at least in this week. How the work will be organized further is decided by the management of the company. Our counterparties are all the same.

You're a local but you said nothing changed for your company because you was transferred for a remote work. You might also never went to the streets much these days. And in particular yesterday. So you might never noticed that many companies was opened yesterday. Yes, public business like restaurants and malls are still closed. But the companies where people are just working in a collective and do not deal directly with customers - they already works. Let's say one of the musicians told me since today their orchestra began the rehearsals again. The level of road traffic grown up dramatically. Yesterday when I got taxi home I've got to the jam for the first time since pre-coronavirus days.

@@realrussiablog I went out into the street almost every day - I had to go to the store, in addition, I had to go to the office a couple of times. Quite a lot of people walked the streets of our district in the midst of quarantine, as now. In the evening of May 11, I had a long conversation with our lawyer, who explained to me the essence of Putin's words in the context of the coronavirus situation. In short - the freebie is over :) And yes, I quite believe you that there were a lot of cars on the streets. Tomorrow, if nothing changes, I’ll go to the office during the day, I will estimate the number of people in the subway.

I currently live in St. Petersburg also. My wife said the residents of St. Petersburg are required to wear masks and gloves until May 31. Fines are to be imposed on those who do not comply. Of course I haven't seen everyone obeying this on the streets in the Чернышевского part of the downtown. Not sure if police will be strictly enforcing these measures.

There is an architectural style called "brutal" and "brutalism." These terms are from French and mean rough. There's also an architectural style even called "New Brutalism." Some Stalinist buildings might be called brutal, but they're not "brutalist." I think the French architect Le Corbusier dabbled in brutalist design.

Brutalism and Stalinist monumentalism were different eras/aesthetics during the Soviet architecture. I don't think anyone really qualifies the Stalin era buildings as "brutalist". Brutalism itself comes from French "beton brut", which I think in English translates into "naked concrete". Stalinist architecture uses brick and stone, not concrete, as their main building material.

Yea, the announcement was strange. On the bright side, maybe it will allow for the reopening of the border earlier (now if I can only get out of NYC :) ). Anyway, as far as Moscovsky prospect is concerned, for me, it was always just a way to get to the airport. Everything is so spread out. Not really able to walk many places, in contrast to Nevsky. Just my opinion. Keep up the good work!
