"Putin and his like they have no scruples. They don't care about collateral damage. They don't care about civilian casualties."
Putin's use of poison squads and assassins across Europe could represent a major threat as he becomes more fearful of his opponents, Lottie Hayton and Hamish De Bretton-Gordon tell Frontline on #timesradio
For more on Putin, Novichok and the war in Ukraine read see Lottie Hayton's article on poison squads or Hamish De Bretton-Gordon's book on Chemical warfare:

It's bothered me since Litvenenko, that these _things_ use such reckless methods in their assassinations. As if the assassination wasn't bad enough... Correct me if I'm wrong, but Litvenenko's death constituted a radiological attack on foreign soil, right? And the Skripal's were a chemical one? With collateral? I just wanted to define the situation a little better, because it seems to me that people are taking this a little soft, in light of the last 2 years.

Yes, it's an attack just like a cyber attack would be an attack. We have to get beyond just bombs and bullets being an attack. But the West is weak and feckless in this respect. And being weak and feckless is how dictators thrive and world wars start

This is the same nation we're talking about that gave us Chernobyl and Kursk with their precision engineering for example, so it really shouldn't be such a surprise that their assassins aren't very clinical and precise. The fact that a surviving victim of an assassination attempt can call up an official, give a fake name and get the detes of his assassination attempt should highlight just how professional these people are.

If I was Putin I'd be concerned. I think Yulia will bring about his demise. I certainly hope so. She's had something very strong ripped away from her. And that's not including the humiliation and degradation of soul she suffered in the aftermath of Navalny's execution. The whole merciless sadistic process of killing him sends a chilling message. I am a bully and I am protected. For now. Channels will open up for Yulia. Opportunities maybe discussed. Anger is energy but she'll need to be left alone when the crash kicks in. Strictly friends and family. Decent media will expose itself. Retribution? Yes that can arrive in many uniforms. RIP Navalny Condolences For the family. A legend and Humanitarian Hero.

Russia has a history of poisonings going back at least to the beginning of the Romanovs. In fact, the first Romanov tsarina was poisoned, probably on instructions by her mother in law. Miraculously, the tsarina survived but was then exiled to Siberia, again probably at the machinations of her mother in law. Source: Montefiore, "The Romanovs", Vintage Books, 2016.

@user-qo6qc7zq1b
@user-qo6qc7zq1b 3 ай бұрын
russian rockets already landed on Polish soil and russian kamikaze drones - in Romania. Both Nato members… that didn’t trigger article 5, they just turned blund eye, so why poisoning would…? Nato/usa/eu make huge mistake letting putin play with fire and test the waters with how far he can go without consequences. putin only knows language of power, west has shown its weakness…
@karsten11553
@karsten11553 3 ай бұрын
Article 5 is not an automatic collective declaration of war. If Article 5 would be triggered, it would just mean that the rest of the alliance would act as if the act had been carried out on one of their own citizens - an attack on one is an attack on all - and the reaction would probably not be much different from how the UK has already treated the situation.

If you remember the war in the Malvinas Islands in the early '80s, it was not like this at all, there was a kind of reasonble behavior on either side of the conflict. Wars are a bad thing *always.* I'm not talking about political decisions. My point is that the people there, on both sides, din't use chemical weapons or kidnapped PoW to practice experiments on them or any of those evil and vicious war crimes. They respected the best they could the rules of war conventions. I guess you can distinguish people behavior from political decisions. When the fake news say lies about the “otan is evil” well I don’t believe it because the fact is that they do not behave like the Russians bombing hospitals or spreading polonium 210. That kind of evil is way out of line. They are murdering their own citizens in jail and in other countries jurisdictions. The world is dealing with a maniac and his cronies.

What was once an entirely unsurvivable neurotoxin is now a less-than 50% proposition: Navalny, Skripal & daughter, and others have survived this painful but less effective version.

With regard to what Hanish said about sudden cardiac death - which he says he has - and that Navalny didnt look like someone with it, thats a bit misleading worded that way. Sudden cardiac death syndrome is the acrual cause of death but its usually something underlying it like QT prolongation or Brugada syndrome that makes your heart beat out of sync. Its a bit strange he says that Navalny doesnt look like someone with it, because thats kinda the point - most people with long QT or Brugada dont know they have it until they get hit with synptoms up to a cardiac arrest or it's incidentally found on an ECG. Navalny could have had it and not known. Balance of probabilities - the Russian state murdered him. I just wanted to clarify that you don't have to be all ashen and grey to have sudden cardiac death, it happens to young athletes as well.

Collaboration among the Commonwealth would be helpful to counter the trends described - as well as help secure our cyber safety. In this way, poisoning, drugs and toxins, mis and disinformation, intimidation, threats and abuse, could be rounded up effectively provided citizenry are incentivized and supported by whistleblower protection laws.

"its not that volatile" and then i believe he followed it up with something to the extent of the ppl that poisoned em didn't need protective equipment. Regardless, he makes it seem like no big deal, yet 3 children end up dead or maimed in a western country from novochuk. All because the fsb are {somehow at this point believably} inept and nov is so incredibly damgerous to administer.

Sidebar comment: At approximately the 30 minute mark in this video, Harnish mentions his time in Damascus working with hospitals assisting health officials dealing with the Sarin poisoning by Assad's military cronies. It just occurred to me that Syria may have been the location where Saddam's chemical weapons were sent as the UN weapons inspectors were attempting to locate previously identified and located Iraq's Sarin and VX gas. There were 520 tons of VX gas logged by Scott Ritter and Hans Blix of the UN after the first Gulf War that were never relocated and destroyed. I have always thought Saddam's Baath party would have sent those weapons to the Baath Party in Syria similarly as he sent his air force to Iran to prevent them from being captured and destroyed.

hi. great insights, great reminders of Putin and his ilk and their barbaric approach to absolute power, and don't forget money, they love money and the high life especially in Europe but that is being closed down somewhat, and proper order. We need to get stronger at biting back, democratic or not, "all is fair in love and war" used to be said. Putin does not spread love or am I mistaken ?

A blow below the solar plexus to the heart?! Somebody has definitely got their anatomy certificate out of a box of Crackerjack! Navalny's wife would notice any such bruise right away. Bruises don't heal when a person is dead.
@31Blaize
@31Blaize 3 ай бұрын
My guess is that it's a version of a pre-cordial thump (wouldn't be below the solar plexus though) which might, *might* be legitimate in the event of a cardiac arrest but it's not often effective in treatment so probably isn't in killing either. The idea is that it is a physical version of the defibrillator shock. It does normally leave a bruise so should be noticed.

The hotel room is still unusable while contaminated with Polonium after all these years, yet the half-life is very short and the stuff is quickly difficult/impossible to detect... Nawalny exposed to Nowitschok after boarding the flight to Moscow, but then Nowitschok was applied to his underpants... It took several hours for Skripals to start feeling the effects of poisoning (due to small dosage and skin contact), but whatever they touched afterwards and left some N. on it was deadly for others (were they going to lick things they touched...) Why haven't we heard the Skripals' version yet (retold, if need be, to protect them)?
