When you think in US -normale terms it all seem to be a step too far for anyone to contemplate. We need to stop looking at the USA as anything approaching normale/rationale. That country started sliding into something.......well, different a couple of elections ago. We are now witnessing US - Putinesque orange (because I have no clue as to what else to call it - suggestions required please) and it defies logic because that is the way Putin's Russia has manipulated it and the Orangeutang emerged to pluck the fruit ready for the Messiah to, "Save them". Is it now the new norm/eternal or will we ever see our almost sane USA back? - I don't know, beyond my average brain to work out. We Europeans who have a vested interest in having the US back on the borderline sanity of old rather than the irrational, need to start re-assessing how we view the US just as surely as so many Americans who have not lost their way into the depths of Putin's machinations need to. Only Americans (no matter how led they are by the social mind bending of Russia/Putin and the Orange freak) can decide their future as we in Europe must decide ours and right now, maybe just maybe the US can no longer be relied upon to do anything other than slide further down the greasy pole into the asylum.

I live a stone's throw from the Russian border and I'm quite confident that Russians know about how we live; what our material living standards are. Having had access to all of that for the past 30 or so years, though, they never developed an understanding that you don't become a Westerner by wearing the same clothes or eating the same food as we do. They want the empire to expand. They see nothing wrong with how they treat their neighbors or the 190+ colonized nations. They've never been forced to. They do need to be forced. They don't have the maturity or the guts to examine their ways out of their own volition, and that's why they are stuck. Hung up on the past.

Why should anyone feel bad for colonizing or being an empire, for that matter? International relations exist in a state of anarchy: there is no higher law or power that can enforce rules in internation relations, so why is wrong to invade your neighbours for security, economic or political reasons? It is one thing to say: "Russia is our enemy, we must stop them", however saying "What Russia does is morally wrong" is just stupid. Morality is so irrelevant in geopolitcs.
@alvarobarcala15 күн бұрын
I relate to that feeling that Jake expresses about Russian barbarism. I was studying Russian for many years, built many contacts in Moscow and Peter related with art, music and stuff, I was very active in Russian social nets... but I abandoned all of that not because of the war (which as well), but because their mentality literally scared and disturbed me (even in supposed liberal artists who don't like the war)... They have a massive amount of population with obvious clinical psychopathic symptoms, with no empathy at all, and many other pathologies, I guess because of having grown up in such hostile environment and in families where parents consider that showing affection is weakness, and centuries of isolation and intercourse btw members of the same families. Plus the massive hostile nationalism, even in those who think they are "liberal arty people". Even practising my Russian with them was hell because they love to demotivate you, making fun of your mistakes, boycotting your learning process, because they find pride in the myth that "foreigners cannot learn Russian because it is an almighty difficult language"... which shows they are desperate to feel pride for something. Many of them had nasty attitudes when I got fluency. I left all kind of relations with them because of their massive toxicity... they have many ways to be hostile, explicit and subtlety... you cannot trust if they show some sympathy because the next second, and for no reason at all, they get hyper aggressive, or attack you personally, try to undermine you or your work.... because that is how they treat each other. They think everyone is like them... therefore they attack you, even gratuitously, because they think you will attack them... so they always do it first. I was a huge lover of Russian culture, and nowadays I even think that country should not exist (and not even because of the war). People should know better how Russia and that "culture" is... so to be ready and protect yourself from them. When I see our leaders trying to appease Putin instead of deter him, it gets in my nerves! it shows they are total ignorants about Russian culture... you cannot appease an average "normal" Russia person... so trying to appease Putin is crazy. They only respect you when you are massively brutal with them (verbally or physically)... I tell you by experience.

The arts have been, just as sports, a means to a political end, under all russian governments. Not that ALL artists ever set out to produce in service of their country, but once their work was well-received, the russian state has always used that to demonstrate russian greatness, and more even: To prove to be civilized, despite all of the anti-social and barbaric aspects of russian society.
@additional810415 күн бұрын
Yes, anyone who played online games like Counter-Strike with Russians knows this. They are the most toxic and agressive players who belittle and insult everyone. Why? Being toxic and hateful is how they motivate each other. This is how russian culture works. Russia is like if a prison was an entire country. The only way you survive in that environment is by being extremely aggressive verbally and non-verbally. This pattern repeats in every aspect of their society. Their military; same story. They beat and s*xually assault other soldiers to keep them in line. This is why Russian are seemingly able to tolerate extremely horrible conditions and keep going like a beaten dog. If this nighmare society is what they want, I don't care. I just want to keep that toxicity and rot of corruption inside their own borders. Every country they stepped in was rapidly shitholified by their prison/mafia/corruption mentality and influence

Jake is absolutely correct on the geographical gains/losses on terra firma. There are two other areas where Russia has/is doing just as badly and arguably even worse. The air - they don't even have parity over their enemies airspace at a time when Ukraine has no air force which can be called one (and that is about to improve exponentially as the F16's are bedded in and the French Mirages due to arrive next year take effect) so the Russians for sure do not dominate the air space (and on paper they should do so). There is also the seas - Russia used to have free reign over what was their sea - a country which has a couple of river boats and a minesweeper or two and now some stealth drones have dominated the Russian navy and their view of what was their sea. It has become a minefield for them and the Ukrainians have given them no other choice but to run to harbour out of harm's way and remain there. Now think of the square mileage that Russia has had to cede to a country with no navy! Ukraine is winning in a way it should not have been able to do so - due to their own ingenuity, a little outside help, their own blood, guts and backbone and hugely to the absolute incompetence and fragility of all things Russian (beyond stupid even getting involved in this war let alone trying to manage it now they have).

They problem for Western leaders is that they have conflicting objectives. They don't want Ukraine OR Russia to lose. But they don't want either to win. Why? If Russia is allowed to win, then it effectively tears up the entire international rules based order that has prevailed since the end of the second world war. Putin will have laid down the gauntlet for any and all autocratic regime to start invading smaller neighbours and annexing territory because he will have shown that the US and its partners are not capable or willing to do what is required to protect the rules of the game. The dilemma for the West is that Russia they do not want Russia to lose in Ukraine in such a way that it will destabilise the entire Russian state. If the West were to give Ukraine sufficient support to be able to inflict a CRUSHING defeat upon Russia then this could have HUGE implications for the stability of the Russian state and therefore the stability of the Russian federation.... The worry being what happens to all of the nuclear and biological weapons if Russia slips into anarchy ala the civil war that happened after the Brest-Livosk treaty in WW1. Personally, I think the West should have ramped up support for Ukraine ever since 2014 and acted pro-actively, I.E. every time Russia escalated in Eastern Ukraine, simply reply with more support to Kyiv. Demonstrate to Moscow that every action they take will be met with a response they do not want.... Ukraine should have been armed to the teeth in 2022. Europe should have already ramped up is weapons production industry....

It is a system uncannily similar to the imperial regime that existed before.
@mightza378115 күн бұрын
Chinese don't care who rules China whether the head of state is one of theirs, a Mongol, a Manchu, etc as long as they believe they are the center of the world and are the most developed nation on Earth, which is why they got mad after the British revealed how backwards the Qing had left them.
@jackneuman510815 күн бұрын
Similar to imperial regime that rebellion took down but it will never happen this time ? Isnt there a slight mislogic there ?
@bobjohnbowles15 күн бұрын
@jackneuman5108 not really. The reasons for the revolution, the social injustice and corruption, are things the CCP are acutely aware of and maintain in the forefront of their thinking. If that changes a revolution will sweep them away, and they know it.
@petrorlov259915 күн бұрын
The logic is pretty much the same as in Russia. I mean, authoritarian regimes usually do not care about people's personal lives that much - they want people not to engage in politics, but that's about it.
@jackneuman510815 күн бұрын
@@petrorlov2599 Thats not about it. They can start silly wars and draft you to die in them, they will restrict your access to non government information and start brainwashing your kids from kindergarten while your savings melt away from war inflation. That kind of affects you no matter how "nonpolitical" you want to be.

Here are some easily refutable Jake Bloe stereotypes: Just a few days he said, "All of Trump’s cabinet pick are all criminals." "This (Trump's election) is an oligarchy, this is a mafia state, this is a dictatorship." "The majority of Americans do not believe there are any rules. The United States is about to turbo charge corruption in every way under these two (Trump & Musk) and under the next four years we are going to allow it." Jake's 16 November 20 24 Q&A podcast.

This war will end up with pootin abandoning his troops fighting right now. When the economy implodes as it is obvious it will do soon, pootin will flee as he will be unable to survive the upcoming civil war with dozens of private armies and gangs fighting for the scraps left behind after the collapse. Trump will be good for the EU in the long term. They might have to learn to stand on their own and not lean on the US. It will likely be painful in the short term, but sometimes folks must be forced into greatness. The effect will be the US will have less influence on world politics. Isolation is a very short sighted plan.

A lot of my fellow Germans have never recognized, that Putin started to found a second Sparta, starting in the early 2000s, latest in 2014 they should have got it! But we were more into brutal appeasement and commercial flow (‚cheap‘ Russian gas and Russian luxury markets…), and I have to blame political parties of all colors and political flavors for this!

And every countries that is still under the influence of Russia is poorer.
