its so appropriate how folklore came out in the summer and evermore in the winter. the respective seasons compliment the atmosphere of the albums and really secure both as must-listens each year for me. plus, folklore is much lighter in terms of what she’s writing about (young loves) and evermore is more mature (old heartbreaks), which is kind of how those months leading up to each album’s release anniversary tends to feel, at least for me 🥲

Ivy is rumored to be based in the love story between Emily Dickinson and her best friend and sister in law, Sue. Of course, historians go with the "they were roommates" when it comes to them, but if you read just one of the letters Emily wrote to Sue, it's pretty clear they were in love.

I haven’t seen anybody talk about happiness. It has several references to the great gatsby. Closure is in 5/4 which is why it sounds unsettling and she's talking about her former label that sold her music to the evil Scooter Braun. The head of her old label was Scott Borchetta who she saw as a father figure so she felt very betrayed by him. The label was called Big Machine so I like the odd metallic drums that sound destructive and coming apart.

I am so happy you guys liked Coney Island, it's a track totally underrated by the fandom and that's a shame because it's incredible. About Ivy: fans have the theory that is about Emily Dickinson and Susan Gilbert (who was Emily's sister-in-law). Wonderful reaction guys, thanks🤎I would say that Midnights has the perfect pop sound of Taylor with the deep of her lyrics and storytelling but, if you only want to discovered one really good song, "All too well" is considered by almost all the fandom her masterpiece.

there's a theory about closure being about her old record label. it was called ''Big Machine Records'' and the music kinda sounds like a machine breaking. Scott Borchetta founded that record label and when she switched record labels he sold her masters under that label to Scooter Braun unbeknownst to her. She tried to buy her masters but they wouldn't let her. This is why she's now re-recording her first 6 albums and it's a huge thing that raised awareness in terms of how badly artists are treated, especially concerning owning the rights to THEIR work. Fans also speculate that ''my tears ricochet'' from her album ''folkore'' is also about the feud with her old record label. There's a lot of taylor lore and us fans have a habit of analyzing everything and trying to find hidden easter eggs which taylor herself deliberately uses in a lot of her work. It's like a fandom thing that, admittedly, can get out of hand sometimes but it makes it all the more fun to be a swiftie😅 Thank you for reacting to her music. Really enjoying it!

Noooo, closure is so controversial but the people that understand it's genius really appreciate it and I am one of them. The disjointedness is the point of the whole song. "I can feel you smoothing me over", "don't treat me like a situation that needs to be handled", "I know I'm just a wrinkle in your new life. Staying friends would iron it out so nice". It's not supposed to sound smooth because she does not want to wrap this relationship up in a neat little song and put it behind her. The beat perfectly expresses her feelings on the situation. "I don't need your 'closure'". She is over the situation in general but does not want to play fake nice or friends with the person that hurt her to make it easier for them. Her feelings are still raw and she wants to experience in those feelings a while longer without people telling her to be the bigger person and get over it already. "I'm fine with my spite and my tears". It's so so good. I loved the video btw, just needed to put it out there for the closure lovers among us ✨️

i feel this way too! closure on the first listen definitely sounded strange, but reading the lyrics after made me understand the song as a whole. i like to think the piano symbolizes taylor's peace, while the disruptive banging that comes and goes and sometimes stays in the backround as if it was an incessant thought in the back of your mind was the person asking for closure. it's far from being my favorite in the album, but i like the thought process that went behind it.

I'm now 30 and have been a Swiftie since she came out (technically I'd say Fearless was what really solidified that status but I loved her debut album too). Love these reactions you two have done, I think you'd REALLY like Speak Now, a COMPLETELY self written album (she was 19) or Reputation but you'd have to do some research before listening to that one to really understand what she did with that one!

Omg your dad put into words what I feel everytime I hear a Taylor album is that special moment where it's like only me, the headphones and the music exist. For me it's hard to achieve that with any other artist plus the fact that english is not my native language and I understand most of the lyrics. It's amazing!

35:17 Thats how I as a Swiftie relate to any album of hers! At first listen it will be like, oh i have this one on replay in my head. then I’d revisit the album and then i’ll find another earworm and another… even after revisiting folklore and evermore or other albums your favorite keeps changing and it changes with time and as you mature and relate to other matters…. Love from Singapore! Keep up the Taylor Swift reactions!! My suggestion is the other two AOTY 1989 and Fearless. But my personal favorite albums are Reputation and the recently new album Midnights. The songs on these albums need repeated listens to love it but thats just me! 🎉🎉 Most importantly is to have fun listening to Taylor! 😊😊

You two are a treasure. I love how you absorb the music, both lyrically and sonically, and how you really analyze the *feeling* of a song and what it does to you personally. I think this album has some of her best lyrics. I also appreciate that you're not afraid to say you don't like some songs - a lot of Swifties will jump down youe throat for that (I hope they didn't do that to you). Fun fact about 'Tis the damn season - she wrote the song when she was drunk, after her other collaborators had gone to bed. She showed up in the morning with the finished song when everyone else was still recovering from the night before. :) I've heard that Dorothea was written from the perspective of the person she leaves behind in this song.

I found your guys' channel a while ago through your billie eilish reactions and have watched a load of your videos since, including some of artists i never usually listen to, so it's really lovely to now watch you experiencing my all time favourite artist for the first time. i really appreciate your honesty regarding tracks you're not so keen on (i'm not really a fan of closure either haha) and it's so cool how much of a grasp you're able to get of her lyrics and meaning after just one listen. i do for sure recommend All Too Well (10 min version) - i think you'll be blown away by the lyrics and the way a 10 minute song can go by so quickly. regarding her other albums - the first 2 (taylor swift and fearless) are VERY country, so if that's not your thing i can see you not being big fans but there are still some incredible lyrical moments, especially on fearless. speak now is very pop rock with incredible drums - very opposite to this haha! red was her transition into pop music - you'll almost definitely know the hits - and has some of her best lyrics. 1989 is her most true pop album - with probably her biggest hits - and i can see you not loving it if you're not big into pop but definitely still worth a listen! reputation is a whole experience that requires a fair bit of context to understand because i think it can be a very jarring listen, especially in contrast to her other stuff, but the highs are really high for me! (new year's day, the closing track, is also sampled by olivia rodrigo in 1 step forward 3 steps back) lover is interesting because it has some of her all time best songs but also some of her worst - high highs and low lows haha. midnights is her most recent album and has gone back to a more pop vibe but the lyrics are as hard-hitting as ever, even if in different ways. the 3am (deluxe) tracks are especially lyrically great! really hope you dive further into her stuff - she has an extremely diverse catalogue and whilst i can see you liking folklore and evermore more than the rest i'd be so interested to hear your thoughts! much love

I love how you actually react to songs honestly and pay attention in details!! Many fans believe "Dorothea" is written about Selena Gomaz for several reasons and "closure" is a reply/revenge song to the big machine record. They technically stole her first 6 albums and "big MACHINE record" so... I guess that's why she used breaking machine sound. Long story short and evermore are written about the time around 2016. That was a dark time for Taylor and fans. She was canceled and the whole world turned against her. But she found a guy called Joe in 2016. And she's saying that he was the light she needed and he saved him. "The bad guy" is thought to be Calivin Harris who she dated before that. It really was the bad time and as a fan these two songs feels good :)

For me my personal favorite is closure, I just love how chaotic it is. And with the lyrics the instrumental is just perfect. And the industrial sound is like a broken machine, and i believe which is a nod to her former record label big machine records. Who sold her 1st 6 albums to Taylor's logtime rivel.

I've been loving these reactions so much! You guys really take the time to appreciate both the lyrics and production which makes for a super enjoyable watch! That said, as for what to listen to next: all of her albums have a very different sound, so maybe having a little summary of what to expect for each album would be helpful to you guys? Here's my take on each album, coming from a long time Swiftie: Taylor Swift (2006): Country; Taylor's debut album; typically the least reacted-to album due to it's pure country sound; often considered her weakest album (as she was only 16 years old at the time of release), but many fans would disagree; songs like Tim McGraw, Picture to Burn, Teardrops On My Guitar, Should've Said No, and Our Song are very nostalgic for a lot of Swifties who have been following her since the very beginning of her career or who grew up listening to country music, and demonstrate her talent for songwriting and storytelling Fearless (2008): Country/Pop; a very solid project that holds up really well today despite being almost 15 years old; this one is a mainly relationship-focused album that really showcases the genius of her songwriting/storytelling skills at only 17/18; you may recognize songs like Love Story and You Belong With Me; Taylor's country accent has also notably diminished compared to her debut album; overall a very beginner-friendly album, although I would highly recommend reacting to Fearless (Taylor's Version) instead (see below) Speak Now (2010): Country/Pop/Rock blend; in my opinion, Speak Now is a very underrated album; at the time, rumors were going around that Taylor was not writing a lot of her own music, so she decided to release an album that was completely self-written; compared to Fearless, which had a lot of breakup songs, this album covers a slightly broader range of topics, such as how her parent's marriage affected her view of love, her regrets in a past relationship, bullying/critics, and growing up; another key event of that time was the infamous moment where Kanye West interrupted her acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs, which is reflected upon in her song Innocent; Taylor has also previously stated that she no longer stands by or condones the misogynistic message that is conveyed in the song Better Than Revenge, so take that one with a grain of salt; lastly, this album is highly hinted at to be her next rerecording Red (2012): Pop/Country; a fan-favorite album that is also a very beginner-friendly listen; in this project, Taylor begins to experiment with more of a pop sound, which can especially be heard in tracks such as 22 and I Knew You Were Trouble, while other tracks such as I Almost Do and Sad Beautiful Tragic have much more of a country feel; in my opinion, this is the album where we really start to see Taylor growing up as she is now in her early 20s at this point; be on the lookout for the color red in terms of imagery and also for the highly praised All Too Well, which I would consider to be THE fan favorite track of this album; this is another album that was re-released, so be sure to check out Taylor's Version if you react to this one 1989 (2014): Synth Pop; for the first time, Taylor fully dives into a pure pop sound and releases some of her biggest hits such as Blank Space, Out Of The Woods, Shake It Off, Bad Blood, and Wildest Dreams; I would definitely consider this one to be another fan-favorite album, along with Red, Reputation, and Folklore; other Swifties might disagree with me on this take, but in my opinion I find this album to have the least amount of hard-hitting, emotional tracks, but I still love it for it's upbeat vibe and catchy melodies; definitely listen to this one if you're in the mood for some solid pop songs; some more emotional tracks to be on the lookout for are This Love and Clean; (she has also released re-recordings of This Love and Wildest Dreams) Reputation (2017): Electro-pop/R&B (with some EDM and trap elements); oh boy, definitely one of Taylor's most polarizing albums, as most people either love it or hate it; personally, it took me some time to get used to but has recently become one of my favorite albums from her and the one I listen to the most besides Folklore; while listening to this project, it's crucial to understand the time period for a lot of these songs to make sense; this was Taylor's comeback album after going into hiding from the public for about a year after a phone call was leaked of her "giving permission" to Kanye West for him to include a line about her in one of his songs, after her publicist had denied this being the case; she received massive amounts of hate during this time after Kim Kardashian made tweets about her being a 'snake' and a liar, and posting clips taken out of context of Taylor on the phone (which was recorded without her permission); however, in 2020, the full video of the phone call was leaked, proving she never gave Kanye permission to use the line "I made that b*tch famous" which makes certain lines, such as "they're burning all the witches even if you aren't one," hit so much harder; Reputation also has many love songs about her (recently rumored to be ex) boyfriend, Joe Alwyn and the beginning of their relationship; overall, as long as you're aware of the context of this album, I think it would also make for a great reaction Lover (2019): Synth Pop (with some electro-pop elements); another very polarizing album, many consider it to be her worst recent album (which I don't agree with); every song on this album is about some form of love, whether that be in romantic relationships, platonic friendships, familial love, or even self-love; (do note that most of the romantic love songs are about Joe, as he plays a big role in this album); this is another highly pop-inspired album and has a much lighter sound compared to other recent albums like Reputation, Folklore/Evermore, and Midnights and is a very long listen, as it has 18 tracks; it is however, along with Reputation, one of two albums that does not have a deluxe edition; that being said, within the past month or so, Taylor has released a song that she wrote during this era, called All Of The Girls, which in my opinion was criminal to be left off this album and is definitely worth listening to; listen to this album if you want a lighter, less depressing vibe than Folklore/Evermore, that still (mostly) keeps the same quality lyrics; be prepared for a couple of skippable tracks though (It's Nice To Have a Friend and ME! are definitely not for everyone) Folklore/Evermore (2020) Fearless (Taylor's Version)/Red (Taylor's Version) (2021): Be sure to listen to these versions of Fearless and Red if you react to those! Taylor re-recorded these albums due to the CEO of her old record label (Scott Borchetta) selling the masters of all of her albums before Lover to Scooter Braun without her consent. These re-releases are very long but also contain all of the deluxe edition tracks as well as songs that are "From the Vault" (meaning, songs that were written during the making of that album but were never released) Midnights (2022): Synth/Electro Pop; Taylor's most recent album; recounts "13 sleepless nights" (at least on the standard edition) during Taylor's life; songs from this album range all the way from her days as a beginning artist to present day and mostly talk about romantic relationships but also include some tracks about self-reflection, growing up and leaving her hometown behind, karma and past friendships, as well as general mental health; in my opinion, this album isn't as strong to me as Folklore and Evermore but I still enjoyed it quite a bit and listen to it often; unlike those albums, these one's are all autobiographical so you don't have to question if they are actually about her or are part of a story; also, make sure to listen to the "3am edition" (deluxe) tracks because honestly they feel like just as much a part of the album as the songs on the standard edition; to be honest, I feel like these tracks are only separate because people complained about how long Lover was; (btw The Great War is about a rocky start to a relationship, a lot of reaction channels don't pick that up on the first listen and are confused) Final notes: anyway (wow I didn't expect to type all that omg), one final thing I will say about Taylor's albums is that her deluxe tracks are (for the most part) NOT throwaway tracks and are 100% worth listening to. Other than that, I really hope this was helpful and will provide some insight on Taylor's career and what to react to next. Hope you guys have a great day!

Lover is my favourite album of hers, the message at the end is everything to me “I wanna be defined by the things I love, you are what you love”. @@abstractgirl1971 I totally agree! Even though these days I usually only go back to Lover for Cruel Summer, Cornelia Street, Death By A Thousand Cuts, False God, ME!, and Daylight, the whole album is really nostalgic to me and it's a shame that there are people that say it's a flop. I also never really understood the ME! hate, sure it's lyrics aren't as deep as something like Tolerate It or Happiness, but it's such a fun, catchy bop that always gets stuck in my head and makes me smile. I only cautioned about it (and INTHAF) in my original comment because I know a lot of people don't like those ones (and particularly hate the "hey kids, spelling is fun!" line). Personally though, I think it's iconic lol

@@DannyGoldstein So true! Music doesn't always have to be serious and intense. And to be honest, the whole light-heartedness surrounding the lyrics and production fits so perfectly with the theme of “love” and love can make you feel childish & free, that's exactly how the songs from the lover album feel like

Hey. Thank you both for sitting down and truly listening and digesting these two albums of Taylor’s, even as you stated before that you’d never really done so before and wouldn’t have if you didn’t have this channel where people recommended her to you. I’m a die-hard Swifie- I know every song, every lyric, all the background stories about them. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to her, or introduced her music to people, or watched someone check her out for the first time, but every time it’s an experience that’s worth it to me, and means something. She taps into something so real and so human, with pure fucking poetry and talent. But it always inspires the best conversations and brings people closer. I left a long-term abusive relationship a few days before Covid hit, and these albums especially hit so close to home in a lot of ways, but gave a release that felt so, so needed. I always say that if there isn’t a Taylor Swift song that describes your life, you haven’t fucking lived. But I especially love that you’re a father and son listening to her together, because I truly believe that differing perspectives find ultimate truths when analyzing the same thing together, but also bring you closer as you come to a consensus. After my divorce, I had to move in with my mother, whom I’ve never really had a relationship with, and as a grown ass woman in her 30s no less. I couldn’t stand the music my mom would play, and slowly, I got her to listen to Taylor, and it was kind of the first thing we really started to bond over… fast forward almost 3 years and my mom and I have a relationship that neither of us ever envisioned us having- in the best way- and we’re even going to her concert together when it gets round to LA. I don’t really know how to round this message out, but I just wanted to say thank you for doing this and letting us in to watch together. ❤
