Doppelganger Arle makes me laugh as a final boss. Everything about how Yon functions makes it next to impossible to defeat her traditionally. The intention is that the battle is an Excavation match to get those point puyo. The thing is every Puyo player on KZbin who touches this game is so good at Puyo normally that they just power through that Shield of hers and flood her with Puyo anyway.

Satan is actually relatively threatening in this game. Definitely a new one. I do like the conceited dumbass Satan we all know and love more but it's still interesting to see him be a threat, even if it was for a little bit.

I have a theory that after Doppelgänger Arle was defeated, she might have turned good, since we see her during the end credits looking at her clown mask with Carbuncle sitting next to her. What she went on to do, we might not know, since after Puyo Puyo Quest, we never see her again.

@@ikaraiden4368 It was developed AND published by Compile. Sega was only IP licensor in this case, since they already owned the Puyo Puyo IP. Compile sold it to Sega in a desperate effort to solve their economic problems (it wasn't of any use because they ended up bankrupt a couple of years later). For some reason, Sega allowed Compile to do with the IP what they pleased, even if that involved releasing games on competitors' platforms, or maybe that was a condition Compile imposed to Sega when the sale took place, who knows.

I agree on the art style. I am not a fan of the post-Compile art style. It's just not fitting at all. Plus they really ruined the way the Puyos look. They look incredibly disturbing imo... However, I think they did really interesting things with the gameplay, but it's a shame that they did not bring this series to the US. Puyo Puyo Tetris is a crossover game which has barely any Puyo modes, and Puyo Puyo Champions is the most bare-bones Puyo Puyo game ever, so I don't count either one of those.

@i change my pfp constantly Honestly, the old art style is much more generic than the new one. It was a typical anime style you could find anywhere. This game is the exception, but only because of its darker and more realistic shading. The new artsyle is a lot more distinct since they exaggerate the proportions and have thick outlines on all the characters. I don't dislike either art style, but the old one is not more unique than the new one.
