Puzzles & A Difficult Boss ALMOST Ruin a Fantastic Game

The first part is a yes for me. Some of those temples were hard as hell. I literally a couple hours in one of them. I think it may have been Ixion. But to the point of the game being hard is what I liked about it. That’s what I think makes it a great game. The story is 10/10 amazing for me but what I learned from playing FFVII as a kid before playing this one when it came out is that you go into a boss battle, get your ass kicked and then you go and grind to get stronger. The hardest parts of the game for me were Seymour on Mt. Gagazett, that took me forever. The whole Mt.Gagazett I feel initially when your traversing it is like an inclination for the rest of the game that things were about to kick up a notch because i felt that whole region was difficult and then cap it off with the boss battle that took me quite a while. The other boss outside of the final bosses that took me days to beat was Yunalesca. She was a pain for sure.

Which puzzles are you referring to? The ones like the cloyster of trials I can understand to an extent (especially for Shiva; screw Macalania Temple lol). As for the final boss, a good rule of thumb is to either have everyone's main sphere grid section finished (at least) so at least everyone has their best abilities (with one to spare for Kimhari to send anywhere) and find a decent strategy (sometimes through trial and error) or at the very least find and explore every available area to acquire items (and extra summons) to alleviate the difficulty. Also as a head's up, the video runs a minute after you finish

I certainly get the complaint about the Cloister of Trials for the first time playthrough, especially if you're trying to get all the destruction spheres on your first visit the first time you play the game. A lot of seasoned players will still complain about how much of a PITA the Bevelle trials are because of how tedious they are. As for the difficulty, a lot of it comes down to having the right strategy for the mainline bosses. There are entire guides on how to beat the main story without ever leveling up your character with the sphere grid, so it's not necessarily an issue with your level but rather not having found the correct strategy to approach the boss. The big hint is to study up on Rikku's overdrive as it's one of the most broken moves in the entire franchise; some of the moves she can mix up are insane and are gamebreaking for the main storyline.

Jar Jar Binks is a super time specific reference. I don't think people even recall that character with all the other mistakes Disney put into that series. Finished the video. Sounds like a Hironobu Sakaguchi boss fight. Specific skill and item checks. You don't beat the boss, you exploit the boss. I'm in the 2nd half of Fantasian and every boss is like that.

@@GuyManley I guess I didn't figure it out as quickly as what would've been reasonable for me. I did beat Sephiroth and Ultimecia in two tries though. Fantasian is one I'm very much looking forward to playing, the way they did the backgrounds is so cool!

I love this game. I literally have over 400 hrs I got all glyphs, aeons, weapons and blizball moves. The puzzles weren’t hard for me. What was hard was getting the gemstone to power up your weapons. And also capturing max monsters so you can go to the arena and fight them. Those were hard but I did everything in the game I enjoyed it so much. To me Tactics, 7 original, 9, and 10 were the best games

Puzzles... fair, the cloister of trials kinda suck lol especially if youre going completionist and wanna get the item hidden in each one. (You might need all of them for something endgame and you cant go back for any of them). As for the final boss, sounds like you just werent leveled enough. Which makes it surprising to me that you even got to the final boss cause some of the earlier ones were way harder imo. Like how did you do enough damage to the boss with the overdrive meter to even get into the final area? I did alot of the sidequests and stuff and even went after the ultimate weapons for a couple of my favorite characters. I 2 shot the final boss, so for me the final boss was actually too easy but that was just because of how i chose to play the game. Once you go back and do side stuff, there are plenty of bosses that make the final boss look like a chump.

I don't know I guess I just got lucky with some of the other bosses. The Seymour fights only took me two or three tries and Yunalesca (my favorite boss) about the same. That's why I was so daunting when it took me 10 tries to beat Ject. Again still love the game and I can see it raising higher on my rankings in the series with a second playthrough

The trouble is that you played 60 hours of a 120 hour game. With complete sphere grids and ultimate weapons the final boss is a 3 turn job. Less, even. FFX is designed to be a grind-heavy game. Every boss is a grind-check, including the "final" boss, who is far from the most difficult boss in the game. The super bosses make it look like a regular enemy. Just play the game. The whole game. As it was intended, with 100 hours of grinding.

@@eglspl425 the way I've been playing the Final Fantasy game so far is that I've been playing through the main story and doing some of the side content but being anxious to see where the story is going to go I just kind of keep going forward. In my opinion I don't think a game should have to rely on its side content but that being said I'm glad that it's there because I'll have a lot more to enjoy when I play through the game again and who knows that may change my opinion to be more favorable. Which is saying something because I did really love Final Fantasy 10, however I can't imagine my opinion on the awful puzzles changing 😅
