Pediatrics: Pediatric Pulmonology: Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a Diagnosis of Exclusion with a Differential Diagnosis of 1) Infanticide, 2) Child Abuse, 3) Suffocation (Asphyxia), 4) Inborn Error of Metabolism (Fatty Acid Metabolism Disorders), 5) Cardiac Chanellopathies. Tx/Mx: Prevention and Education (Prenatal Care Education) of those at Risk (Rx: 1) Maternal Age, 2) Low SES, 3) Sleeping Technique Education (No Prone Sleeping or Bed sharing). Goodness, a dreadful Diagnosis. There are many other Factors. In Mississippi et al, the Poverty is High but there is also Humidity and Pellagic Exposures along with Racial Tensions. I suspect SIDS is plain and simple a sloppy way to raise a Child more than an unexplained death of a child in the social context and parental side. I've heard that breastfed babies should not have pacifier for a few weeks/ first month because of nipple confusion, etc. If baby has a good latch in 1st few weeks it's probably okay to give pacifier then

People forget that yes, babies 'naturally' sleep with their parents, but babies also 'naturally' die an awful lot.
