Not new to hockey myself, but a few things you missed if you're trying to keep the people who are entirely new informed: 1. 2 minute power plays, those that result from a minor penalty, either end when the time expires, or end in the PWHL when either team scores a goal. The NHL doesn't have the jailbreak rule, so in that league they end early if the team on power play scores. 2. 5 minute power plays, those that result from a major penalty, do not end until the 5 minute clock runs out (at least as far as I know, the jailbreak rule doesn't apply to major penalties), meaning that the team on power play can try to score as many goals as they can within those 5 minutes. If both teams have players receive penalties at the same time (or overlapping times), then both team's players will be in their respective boxes and the teams will be playing 4-on-4 until one or both penalties end. (please correct me if that's not the current rule in the PWHL). No matter how many penalties have been called, no team will be down more than 2 players at a time. If 3 or more players have penalties called on them, then they'll all usually be put in the box, but the power play time for the 3rd penalty won't start until the 1st penalty expires (and etc - if there are more - I've seen it happen a few times in the NHL). If a goalie commits a penalty, usually the goalie will stay out of the box and a substitute skater will be in the box to serve her penalty. There are also misconduct penalties that are separate from and if given are usually in addition to a major or double minor penalty (actually, correct me if the PWHL doesn't have double minors) - these penalties are specifically given to the individual player not the team and do not affect how many skaters the team puts on the ice. The player who has received a misconduct is out of the game, either for 10 minutes or for the entire rest of the game (including any OT or shoot-outs)(a "game misconduct"). Game misconducts are usually awarded for flagrant and egregious actions by the player receiving one. I haven't seen a 10-minute misconduct handed out in quite some time, so I'm not sure where the lines are now for those - used to see those 'awarded' for poor sportsmanship or excessive and obnoxious heckling of the refs.

Awesome info! I've been really impressed with the league so far, it's softened the blow from the phf being swallowed up (RIP Connecticut Whale!). The one thing I'll mention is that it was hard to focus on what you were saying because of the loud music. Love the content, and excited to see more and more pwhl coverage!

Hi! Thanks for the comment and the feedback! Yeah… I’m never sure about the volume of music to use because I love the music but then it can make it harder to understand what I’m saying 😅 I’ll turn it down on my next one :)

Great video! It's great to have resources to explain the basics of the sport for new fans. Also your editing style and talking slowly and clearly make the video very approachable. Keep up the great work!

As a casual fan of Men's Hockey, this was very informative. I hope to catch a PWHL game soon to see these rules in action. Thank you for the video!

Awesome video! I never knew the PWHL had those unique PP rules. I really like the jailbreak one, NHL should adopt that one!
