Unless the escalation can reasonably put you in risk of life or limb, let's say you insult them and they pull a gun on you (still a legal grey area given the circumstances) then you may be able to kill them (though if there are options for non lethal means of escape, running or disarming (which if you stabbed someone who is excessively and obviously weaker than you the argument could be made for disarm), you could still be charged for homicide in some places manslaughter if you're lucky).

It's kinda nice hearing Spy encouraging the boy to kill. In Mann Co No More #6, he said, disguised as Tom Jones, he ran away from the woman he impregnated, Scout's mom. And Scout might even be considered Spy's failure as a father. Scout's meant to be running around, dodging bullets left and right and fighting back while also fleeing with the speed he has. His origin as a kid even screams of escaping danger. Just like Spy and his invis watch or dead ringer. They're not really meant to go in head-on. And throughout some of the comics, there are hints showing not only that Spy's Scout's dad, but also that Spy's getting better as a father. Very evidently from Expiration Date.

I love how spy and engineer are the only two characters with any degree of common sense. I mean, both of them are still insane. Engineer jumped to conclusions about teleporting bread without bothering to test on literally anything else and spy still had an entire last meal hidden in false teeth rather than any implements of escape, but still.
