After a few mixed accuracy results from the first test of the Texan .357 Air Rifle, we were contacted by Texas's favorite airgun company with a few suggestions on what ammo to use. Tyler heads back out to the range armed with new knowledge and new ammo. Let us see if round two is any better.

You had a great idea to try .358 diameter projectiles...this also holds true for my .357 Impact with Tensioned Slug Barrel...its accuracy was terrible with NSA 93 grain slugs with diameter of .357... however the same 93 grain slugs with diameter of .358 give me one hole groups at 50 yards & just under an inch at 100 yards! The difference was as night & day! Good call Tyler!

I guess that suggestion payed off. I like the looks of the .357 short barrel. And it looks like you like the performance. Over 200fpe with a slug. 3/4 inch groups at 30, and likely 50yd. That makes a great stalking gun for deer and such.

For those that don'[t know that there is a difference between 9mm and .357 go to any bullet mold company and look for your selves. Not only are they different diameters, the designs are totally different.

In california you cannot hunt with lead projectiles, are there any alternative projectile's that are not just lead? I see there are air bolts but I am actually interested in the slug

I want to see a full review of the 357 Seneca recluse. It's a great little gun and more reasonably priced than the rest. But all I can find I cheap reviews and I'd like to see it tested with several different slugs and pellets. Tofazforu did a review but only with pallets and round ball I'd like to see a shot with slugs because I plan to hunt hogs and deer with mine as well as coyotes and small Predator size game. I'm not ready to spend the money on an Airforce Texan at this point though they're nice but not an extra $350 nice in my opinion anyways. Thanks

Have they fixed the problem with disengaging the safety discharging the gun?

That would be a question for Airforce, though on the 5-6 Texans I have shot myself, I've never experienced that.

That was a good group? At 45 yards? Someone help me out, do all 357 airguns shoot this badly?

I have a quick question. What larger grain projectile should I use in my hatsan Big Bore carnivore 35 caliber? I am currently using the h&n Grizzlies which are fine out to 50 yds. After that they just don't group worth a damn. The JSB exact Diablos are just about Tac drivers at 100 yards. But with them only being 81 grains I'm getting around 98 foot-pounds of muzzle energy. I would like to try to increase that. I'm sure I would have to do some work on the air transfer Port as well. And after doing that I would probably want to regulate the gun. I would just like to see my Hatsan putting out some numbers like the Benjamin bulldog and the Texan..... If that is even possible. I'm completely happy with the rifle the way it is and it's got more than enough knockdown power for what I'm using it for. But what kind of shooter would I be if I didn't try to push the boundaries a little bit? Lol! I've been told that the Hatsan barrels are a little finicky when it comes to bullet diameter. In my big bore carnivore that is true. So before I spend another hundred dollars with Pyramyd Air.... Could you point me in the right direction? And don't get me wrong I love giving you guys money. And you have the best customer service I've ever encountered.

Well John, my experience with the big bore Hatsan guns (particularly the .35) tells me the JSBs are where you should stay. Or you might want to look at the Aero Magnum slugs, I can't vouch for them personally but I know plenty of shooters that have had good luck with them and I think the guys over there will likely have a good slug for the carnivore. That said, getting a ton more from that platform is definitely going to require some internal work. I suppose part of that depends on just how much more you want, but if you want to be up into the Bulldog or Texan range, it's a better use of your time (and probably your money too) to get one of those guns. I like to think about each airgun as a different purposed tool. Though some big bores do cover a wide range of potential uses with the various ammo options out there. But guns like the Carnivore or the Ataman .35 cals are pretty much one or two ammo guns, which keeps their power potential where it's at out of the box. Like I said, you can check with Aero Magnum, and they may have something that will give you extra energy without too much change to the gun, but I don't see it being leaps and bounds more. I hope that helps and I didn't just muddy the waters for ya.

We will see. I'd imagine we will see one for the .45 at some point since the SS is coming with a shorter barrel. Not sure on the .308 though.

I'm Just about at a total loss on this one. The builder of custom big bore Air Force based guns, Dyotat100, Yes Doug Noble, the 2017 winner of the under .35 dia bullet shooters at Extreme Benchrest this year, Tofazfou on TAG and GTA, and myself, KnifeMaker, all contacted the company when they finally admitted that the AF platform could shoot heavier projectiles. (Bullets),,. Each of us tried to explain twist rates for bullet weights, and were totally ignored. I tried to explain that the (mm and .357 were two different bullets, as it doesn't matter whether being fired from an Aig Gun or a powder burner. I mean, who shoots a .357 in a 9mmm handgun?? A 9mm is .355 nomaly to as much as .356. , 357 is .358. Not ev4en in the same Universe when it comes to Bullets! We all tried to explain that a bullet has to be sized to the bore. Not just an off the shelf bullet. That a shooter needs to at least size to the bore for best performance and accuracy. This needs to be from .0000 to .0003" over bore. Again. No One at Air Force would listen. The results are completely predictable. Bad accuracy. Powr all over the place. Even reports of Bullets stuck in barrels. GRRRRRRRR!!! Hell, My little 190 fpe .257 will shoot 1/4" at 100 yards, and Tofazfou has many vids here on youtube shooting at long range. How about 160-170 yards under 1/4"? With records being held by Rifle 50 on the Tag well over 1000 yards. Yes, he has Vids here as well. why o why would a company ignore simple internal as well as external ballistics, much less the experience of other very knowledgeable testers, rather than go it totally blind, and full of arrogance? Wake the Hell up AirForce! This is getting Ridiculous! KnifeMaker

There needs to be better accessories available for this gun. The rail set up is weak... why is there no good quad rails that fit this thing. (Texan 457 Carbine)

You know what the accuracy and these Big Bore Airguns are absolutely no good the grouping that he showed with that slug is what he should have had it a hundred yards not 45 it's a real shame did they want an arm and a leg for a big bore airgun and they just won't group the actress he's just not there
