Agreed, low volume manky creek style is where it’s best suited. Also concur on tracking, but the good news is it will bulldoze over stuff if you miss by a little. Excellent review.

Been boating for 44 years love my Machno M. Had a 9r L and this is street's ahead as a general purpose G4 -5 creek boat because it allows me to paddle slower. I found I needed to be faster (sharper) in the 9r but this is a bit more old skool and it inspires confidence by not skipping from hole to hole. Fast rolling and oh so comfy.

Love my machno, but I’m glad I didn’t have it as my first boat. The Burn was a little more helpful in developing some better habits bc it just wasn’t quite as forgiving as the machno. But it’s definitely my go to if I’m feeling nervous. It’s like a security blanket boat! I’m feeling like I’m starting to outgrow it though and need to spend more time in my Antix now. Thanks for the review, Wade.

I bought a Machno to replace a Nomad that I had for a long time. I mainly paddle low-volume manky creeks and rivers in Colorado, but I've paddled the Machno on bigger volume rivers in Idaho and Ecuador. I agree with your assessment of the boat; it's more akin to an old-school creek boat which is what I've become used to over the years. Nevertheless, I'm ready to trade it in and buy a boat like a Scorch to be able to enjoy the higher performance that edges and different rocker profiles provide. Thanks for your great reviews!

I have a Machno, I paddle grade 4/4+ in Scotland (which is mostly steep manky creeks). I agree that the lack of edges is good for sliding off rocks, however, I would like a bit of an edge. I previously paddled the Waka OG (which I think I prefer tbh), since it is pretty similar but has more edge and a better rocker. The machno is also pretty heavy which can make long walk-ins a pain in the arse (or more accurately, pain in the back :P).
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison 2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah I have seen the Scotts rivers definitely some micro creeks and agree with you I still like having little edge in there that’s why o sold both my Newmads just didn’t see paddling them much anymore..

I’ve paddled a Machno for 3 years it would be my only boat if I could get comfortable in it. The Dagger Nomad and the Machno are similar. The Machno wins out in hull design. The Nomad is way more comfortable. I’m not an aggressive paddler so I understand it’s basically a bobber on the water…. that’s my two cents

The Machno has been the best creeker I’ve owned. It really takes care of you, but it is corky and a bit sluggish at the same time. I’m hoping the Code will alleviate these negatives.
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the code is so different it still takes care of you but the bow and stern rocker is so good at blasting over things. And with that code you will find it really does not shine until you drop that edge drastically.

I have a Large Machno (my wt 200lb) does not bob the bow around like the Medium; I think it tracks well; these Machno's roll well; the Large at 98 gallons rolls amazingly well for this old dog; it does feel sluggish to getting up to speed; really feels stable on the Creeks; very popular boat in its day

Hey Wade. Looking to upgrade from a wavesport habitat for more demanding whitewater. Mostly class 4-5 technical and sometimes pushy steep water. Considering the machno, code, or gnarvana. Thoughts?
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison Жыл бұрын
I would skip The macho at this point it’s pretty dated the real comparison is the code and gnar and either will be really good the gnar will ride dryer and on top the water the code will be better at low volume creeks

What would you suggest for sizing (medium or large). And would you steer me towards something different. Mostly class 2-3 water right now. I’m also pool session this winter with a 4fun 3rd generation

What are a couple of boats that you'd prefer over the machno for rocker/tracking for a class 3+/4 boater? Code? Something else?
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison 2 жыл бұрын
I think if wanting something for steep low to medium volume runs with some big water mixed in time to time i would say you could go with the code yes but if your paddling mostly steeper Rocky low volume type rivers by far the top 2 boat are the machno and Newmads both are still available at dealers and both really do the same thing feel totally at home on steeps and when big skips and speed between drops are not really needed

Is that a custom colorway? Mine is the orange/black (2021) fire ant? I love that colorway with the grey handles. I've only been paddling the last 2 seasons and I'd say my Machno takes good care of me. Being a new paddler, it gives me the confidence to try new skills
