Others have tried, but ultimately, only we could improve on the original Ripper...
The design improvements we've introduced in Ripper 2 take the fun to the next level and open up even more opportunities for it; go faster, surf more waves, drop the tail with less effort and in more locations, and get even more recklessly vertical.
Whether you were a fan of the original or not, you haven't truly experienced half slice until you've tried this.
Thanks for Watching!

Great stuff Wade. Good to meet you in person yesterday at WWC. I paddled the Ripper 2L earlier that day and loved it at my size(6'1/210 lbs.). Fast, goes over everything with that rocker, holds a line like a scorch, and surfed good. Feel like I would take it down just about anything and I normally don't say that about half slices. What shocked me is how the stern didn't do anything weird. I thought it was going to be grabby and braaap me out of everything. I never noticed it until I wanted to engage it. O'boy though, when you want to swivel and sizzle it comes through. Spinning on that tail was so fun. Liked it so much I'm picking one up next week!!! See ya out there man and I'll approach with caution on that first flare boof, LoL!!

It is a great review which inspired me to buy the R2 Large (after demoing it twice). Thanks Wade 👍 This boat is stable, fast, playfull, easy to switch edges, nice to surf, easy to get vertical, it gives you superb feedback and helps you progress as a paddler. It might be one if the best ww-kayaks in this boat-category right now.

Great vid as always Wade. How does it compare to the ripper 1L in terms of stability/twitchiness? Would you be doing the seat shim folded in half at the back to tilt you forward and hookers if you got a large? Is the comparison to an antix 2L same as for the medium versions?
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison Жыл бұрын
I would totally have to outfit this one better this was a demo I would have to have thigh hookers and a seat pad and move that backband up I liked this one over the ripper 1 yes and it’s very different then the Antix 2L which I have paddled just never did a review on the Antix 2L is just to wide in the cockpit area for my liking
@sbaldwin21
@sbaldwin21 Жыл бұрын
@@WadeHarrison thanks, helpful as always. Agreed the antix 2L is stable perhaps to a fault. I’m too heavy for the medium at 240, really like the large. Think the R2L might be just the ticket though.
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison Жыл бұрын
@@sbaldwin21 yeah the longer length really helps blanching out that volume in the ripper2 L the Antix 2 is amazing at medium but at L it really fell short in my opinion same with the rewind I loved the medium but going way to long and to much volume really hindered that boat in large also
@DejanSmaic

Have the Antix 2 that I love, had the Rewind Large which I thought overlapped my Antix 2 too much and traded for a Gnarvana. But, still feel there is a half slice out there I could use on tame V's and still play. This R2 seems like it would fit the bill.

@@WadeHarrison I picked up teh Ripper 2 Large in early March. Big T came in on March 16 with a release from Lake Estes on March 16th through the next two weelks (436 cfs steady). Took the Ripper 2 down the Upper Big T (Class III+/IV) to figure it out. I'm a Jackson fan and all my boats are Jacksons, but the R2 was a big learning curve, figuring out edges, more "tippy", etc...Even lead down my crew down some bad lines unintentionally due to lack of control. Anyways, once I stated figuring out the edges, posture and center of gravity, it was starting to be awesome. It wants to stern squirt for me in eddylines if not paying attention. It's really my new river boat for everything with my GnarVana sitting collecting dust. But, will never replace my Antix 2.

Hi Wade! Great review as always. I bought the Ripper 2 medium last fall, partly based on your review. I'm at 6'1 180-185 lbs and I absolutely love the boat for surfing/squirt but I find that the tail goes down a little too easily in bigger water (I live in Qc, Canada so we got plenty of that over here during spring run-off). How did you find the large in bigger volume runs? I find that with the medium when I load the tail to get air on big waves, it mostly gets swamped and slows down instead of really taking off. That might also be because of my faulty technique. Also I was wondering how you find the stability during a stern squirt in the large? I find the medium is super easy to initiate but doesn't want to stay vertical. Also looking at the sweet ride right now but I think it would be less playful than the Ripper 2 large.
@WadeHarrison
@WadeHarrison Жыл бұрын
We are the same weight I’m 185 and the medium I moved the seat all the way forward to counter that tail loading I think it’s got to much volume out of it. I currently paddling the L I don’t have a Medium and I love the large I feel it’s the best of play meets river running it’s like a sup up scorch actually. If you have Decent stern stall/pivot technique you will really like the Large. I’m trying to get the firecracker 252 I’m hoping that one is just as good
@JF.Rivest
@JF.Rivest Жыл бұрын
@@WadeHarrison Thanks for the feedback! I have long legs so in the medium even the middle seat position is a squeeze for me and gets hard on the knees... In bigger water I have to crank my back band to the max so my position is forward by default. Just bought a used large and will most likely swap with my medium, can't wait to try it out!

Owned a ripper 2 large for a little now. Took It on upper yough felt like I had more control with my edges and much better lines than phantom..Still trying to work on getting better stern squirts..I can get completely vertically every now and then.. I’m 180 pounds so I’m on lower end of paddler weight but I’m sure I’m heavy enough just technique probably needs some work.. With that stern being so long wonder if I need to reach back further..Also going to going to get a longer paddle with better blade and see if that helps..Feel like I don’t want to give up on this boat and want to make it work but man not going to lie after seeing the hot whip and fire cracker now I’m wondering if I should have gotten shorter half slice to squirt Easier. Lol I know you can squirt it pretty good at 180 but obviously I’m not as good as you. Any tips for getting more vertical and thoughts..I took it down LBS and flipped a few times in places I would have rather not lol.. I even put away all the way back to help with squirting but yeah I mean if I’m not going to be able to squirt it that good might not be worth it on certain runs at least not yet at my skill level..LBS for some reason felt more squirrelly for me than upper yough..Upper yough felt better suited for play..Might take creeker down lbs next time until i improve skills. Sorry for long rant.

Yes reach back more like a slalom boater would and I’m 185 and it’s not the easiest to get up but way more rewarding when you do it’s just a amazing river running kayak at our weight if want more tail play look at something like the hot whip or firecrackers I love the rip 2 L just those flowing down river days the best I have ever paddled

I do like the stability of the Antix and the fact that the tail doesn't engage when I don't want it to. Is the firecracker a little squirrely in that regard? The firecracker looks awesome, I'm just not sure I'm good enough to paddle it.
