2000 pounds of Force and the python still got away now that sound's like some BS
@TheNYgolfer5 жыл бұрын
No it's true. Gators have been measured at over 2000 psi. Crocs at 3700 psi. It's not sustained for long since it takes a lot of energy . Not sure what went on in this video. Almost seems like they were just horsing around
@corue5 жыл бұрын
@@TheNYgolfer that gator was tiny, probably 2 meters. a gator of that size would have around 1000 psi, not as strong. plus, the biteforce is only powerful for around 20 minutes, beyond that is too exhausting for the alligator.

Incredible footage. Highlights an important global issue too: that of the impact of non-native species on native fauna, in this case the Alligator. If it is now an established breeding population then it may well be very difficult for the authorities to do something about it. Nevertheless efforts must be made to a) raise awareness about the potential threat to native wildlife of releasing non-native snakes into the American wild and b) take every effort to try to remove them from the Everglades.
@risenfromthepyre2 жыл бұрын
Maybe someday they'll also consider the millions of feral cats and our other four legged furry friends that have probably displaced more native species than any other introduced animals in the last 100 years.
@ivanlazarevic782 жыл бұрын
It is human way of looking upon animals.So whtif it is native species or not,it does not have passport.Majority of people in America are not native
@risenfromthepyre2 жыл бұрын
@@ivanlazarevic78 Well you may have a point with humans but that's another conversation. Non native species are introduced species into an environment by MAN'S INTERFERENCE. In any ecosytem animals evolve over generations to have natural adapatations to help them exist, breed, avoid predation and strike a balance with other animals. When a non native species is rapidly introduced, especially an alpha predator it can wreak havoc upon the native wildlife and create an extreme disbalance as much as throwing a fox into a room with kittens. Pythons didn't swim from Asia and arrive in Florida. If that was the case that would simply be natural selection.

Alligators do have explosive power, but I recently learned that they are sprinters, and will ALWAYS lose a marathon. They can only thrash for a few minutes, before lactic acid builds up in their muscles, which paralyzes them. Think about times when you might have pushed yourself too hard physically, and your muscles tighten painfully, to the point that you can't really move them- this happens to the alligator's entire body. Surprisingly, in Florida, otters are known to exploit this weakness, actually killing alligators once their bodies freeze up; the otters are quick/nimble and can outlast the alligator. They basically use Muhammad Ali's "rope-a-dope" technique. My guess is that the snakes employ similar tactics, and just outlast the alligators.
@jfiliss3 жыл бұрын
@@quantumperception I think you're right, though snakes share similar limitations. Better endurance is probably the best purely physical advantage of warm-blooded animals.
