@MaddieMudrik-rm3so Жыл бұрын
@@kriswagoner4935 this is a completely different ecosystem to which they are not naturally connected to, an invasive species does not mean imported species, it just means it does not belong where it is currently found. Just like you want your ecosystem protected to preserve your iguanas in a different state, the iguanas removal here is not connected to that ecosystem and is tied to protecting this one. If you have a local non-invasive species that you care about you can try to look at local efforts to conserve the ones in your own ecosystem and get out there and volunteer.

@mountainbound1315 Жыл бұрын
@@Scorpkeeper I don't hate the snakes, I only hate the destruction to the native wildlife that they inherently bring to the area. I am not a fan of non-domesticated pets. These snakes even if bred in captivity are not domestic. If folks want a pet, they should get a dog or cat or a chicken. Would you trust your toddler with a 6 foot python? Would you like your neighbor to have pet tigers? Irresponsible people that can't care for exotic pets and release them into the wild should have charges brought against them. The situation is "horrible". Be well and take care, friend. 👋
@Scorpkeeper Жыл бұрын
@@mountainbound1315 all animals produced in captivity are technically considered “pets” but domesticated animals are technically livestock used for profit, and yes it is a horrible what an invasive species can do to an ecosystem. But to answer your question, I would trust anyone who listens to my rules of handling my 2 hypo red tail BCIs my male is just shy of 6.5 feet and he is one of the sweetest snakes I’ve had, I also have two retics as well with a burm being my next pet, I work with all of my animals (all produced in captivity) and they are all gentle giants who’ve learned human interaction isn’t a bad thing 👍🏻 if my neighbor had the capacity to care for such an animal all the power to them! Yes irresponsible pet owners shouldn’t own pets to begin with, the situation in Florida to my best knowledge was a breeding facility that was taken out by a hurricane. I just feel like the animals take the blame sometimes when they’ve done nothing wrong :)
@mountainbound1315 Жыл бұрын
@@Scorpkeeper Dogs and cats are not livestock. You can assign whatever name you like: Beef = cow, Pork=pigs, Venison=deer. The name matters not. The danger these snakes pose to wildlife and humans is the problem. Do you have small children? What if your "gentle giant" accidently escaped and killed your neighbor's child in the backyard? This happens. Dangerous, exotic animals are just that. Dangerous and exotic. They do not belong in domestic households, period. They pose a hazard to animal control officers should they need to respond to an incident. Look up State (Florida) vs. Jaren Hare. Last year in Pennsylvania a 15ft python killed it's owner. The stories go on and on. These animals are not safe. They kill indiscriminately. Are your animals registered with your local municipality? The Federal Government enacted the Big Cat Public Safety Act in 2022 to stop people from owning Lions and Tigers in residential neighborhoods. I hope snakes are next and I am glad you and your menagerie are NOT living anywhere near me or my grandkids.
@Scorpkeeper Жыл бұрын
@@mountainbound1315 I used to live in Colorado so its possible haha! But that is exactly my point people demonize the animal and want it banned simply put, I am a responsible keeper who takes measures to make sure my animal cant escape as well as socialize them so they see human interaction as nothing to fear, and there have been irresponsible keepers I'm not denying that, but that is not everyone equally as owning a reticulated python isn't for everyone also. Yes dogs and cats are considered pets, livestock is considered to be within the classification of domesticated animals. there has only been one documented case of a retic eating someone(not in the us it was where they are from in the wild), and I believe only 3 deaths in the united states. Personally I don't own any animals that require registration in my new state :) honestly these snakes don't pose a threat to humans they're not evil angry beasts that seek joy killing newborn babies lol imagine how you'd act if you couldn't hear, couldn't see well, and had a noodle body? The world would be a scary place. (not speaking of invasive species here) they're misunderstood creatures that honestly mean no harm to you :) Be blessed

Great job Otto!! He's so badass! It's great to watch y'all clearing out the invasive critters from Florida. The old rattlesnake roundup folks used to put gas down holes with snakes to get them to come out. Obviously you don't want to use gas, but maybe there's something else that snakes hate that you could put in a hole to get them out. Alcohol might work, or maybe a mix if stinky plants. It wouldn't get eggs out but it might save you from digging out snakes. It's just an idea, and I just want to help you catch more snakes easier.
