Chickens, and to be more specific all birds are actual dinosaurs. They are still morphologically dinosaurs, just very specialized. Its not like birds are related...Birds ARE dinosaurs. But it may won't came to sense, since we are very used to our more...Jurassic Park view on dinos (like being featherless). Alligators will burst from 0-20ish mph before you can blink. Two things 1.) If you see an Alligator, pack up and go somewhere else 2.) Don't stick around, especially if there's tall grass. He could have easily got to you through those bushes, but you're lucky. While alligator's are fast, they usually won't go too far from water, which is why he didn't leave the shore line.

They're also territorial, often remaining in one location for long periods. If there's a specific area that you know and Alligator resides, simply avoid it, or risk getting attacked by surprise.

But not really, statistically speaking the odds you even know someone who was killed by an alligator is incredibly slim. There's been about 32 alligator related deaths in the United States over the last 50 years. Spiders, Cows, Snakes, Dogs, etc are far more likely to kill a human. A random gator attack odds is something like 1 in 2.4 million. Florida has a lot of gators but as long as the dude didn't go up and try to pet it people get as close as this guy did all the time and injury frequency is extremely rare. This guy was not hurt, maybe he was lucky... but only as lucky as the majority will be at this distance.

This guy just increased his risk level by being stupid. Not understanding that he was fishing from a gator trail, not knowing the breeding season risks, walking towards the gator after running away, and then going back towards the water to check things out were all really dumb actions.
