Dude you are an inspiration to me. I've just quit my job of 12 years to get back into powerlifting full on. Much like yourself in my teens just a loner my uncle did a bit of lifting so t thought I try it and loved it about a year went by doing well met a girl and well yep I went down the wrong path and then I find myself at 40 no girl no kids broken and beaten after getting through a wicked addiction that destroyed me took me to rock bottom and beyond and now nearly 6 years clean and my headspace is where it needs to be to harness all the rage anger bitterness resentment that killer instinct that I've been suppressing for the last 40 years of my life and put it all into the weights as you said the gym never changes. I'm 40 years old @66.5 kg and ready to smash records and show how you can come from being nothing to something by saying fuck it let's do this! Thank you so so much Pete. @pattybaselines5 жыл бұрын
I bet he can now lol
@dariusgoatland105 жыл бұрын
@@pattybaselines I could do a 360 dunk when I was 145 & I couldn't squat to depth with the bar. Now I'm 220, squatting around 400, & I can hardly touch the rim. Don't think there's correlation. Studies show that quarter squats translate to the best results for jumpers & sprinters.
@pattybaselines5 жыл бұрын
@@dariusgoatland10 There is definitely a correlation. You just got a lot heavier...What muscles do you use to jump? lol.. You were also doing a lot more jumping at the time I assume.
@dariusgoatland105 жыл бұрын
@@pattybaselines What I'm saying is that a significant weight increase will outweigh any increase in a regulation depth, powerlifting squat. Have you ever seen a basketball player reach parallel before taking off to jump, lol? The amount of knee flexion required to jump is so little compared to a parallel squat. 50 pounds on your body will make it harder to dunk - even if you put 200 pounds on your squat in the process. That's why athletes quarter squat. Go check out Myles Garrett's squats on his instagram for instance.

@@jl3laze86 I mean, it all comes down to doing (almost) as much volume as you can handle without killing yourself in the process. So you need to have in mind your body sees both your job and lifting as "work", and the body can only handle that much work/volume. I don't think I am, but I might be wrong, do do your own research though. Recovery is still key, that's for sure.

This might be obvious but make sure that you are also consuming enough calories on top of your training. I use to work in a concrete yard and would sometimes pull 16hr shifts. Usually would drink a gal of whole milk a day on top of 3 heavier meals. Usually would get fast food at the end of the day too and my weight would not budge. As far as training goes just focus on the bigger compound movements hell even just pick 1 or two movements to focus on and train in blocks

You've definitely accomplished quite a feat going from a skinny stringbean to a jacked beast.but Pete you've got to understand that there's only a tiny tiny fraction of people on the planet that can work hard and become a 900 lbs puller.the young men that look up to you should be aware that they statistically aren't going to become Pete rubish just because they get serious about weights.the reality is that many of them will not hit 405.they need to be prepared for maybe being disappointed.
