Q & A: how to seal your carving

Showing the products used to seal the carving to protect your detailing on your piece. My main way of protecting the carving is to use krylon spray 51301 ( this number may have changed, check with the manufacturer) and then using watered down titanium white acrylic paint applied to the whole carving.

Thanks for sharing your incredible knowledge! Love your videos and am planning on attempting your chickadee carving soon. Right now, I am doing a half size bald eagle. In the past i have used wax free shellac to seal my carvings but it seems to raise the grain. (I only use basswood.) I have heard about prime II by Fabuloso but it is unavailable. Since making this video have you found anything better? I am so scared of filling in all my detail work done by stoning and burning. Thanks in advance for any reply. Dennis, I use a krylon spray 51301 but they charge the number. Check with Krylon about the new number and where you can get it. One subscriber mentioned Home Depot. Another recommended Delta ceramcoat- sealer- all purpose-8oz-070050802-$7. Somebody else recommended Minwax conditioner $17. I hope that helps
