I’m loving how after just 7-8 months in Ireland you twice used the term “the ESB”. It can’t be long now until we see one of you eating a pack of Tayto’s Cheese and Onion crisps, and perhaps spot a box of Barry’s tea in the background.

The easiest way to explain Ireland; you walk down the road and every one say's hello, bar if you know them or not. In the UK, you'd get a very odd look from most people if you say hello and don't know them.

We are leaving Cork today for the Ring of Kerry! A 2 and half week trip to Ireland from the states. We are hunting locations to live/work. Your channel is our favorite Irish channel. You both are truly inspiring. I would love to know more about what I refer to as 'overhead expenses'; home taxes, insurance, utility bills and anything unexpected in this category. This is the most beautiful country, with the most happy people I have traveled to (and we travel a lot!) You are living a dream!
@offgridirishhomestead4 ай бұрын
We love Kerry! Thanks for your kind words. Re overheads, sounds like you would know better than us? Our own outgoings in this category are fairly minimal. We are subject to LPT like everyone (although the house being uninhabitable should qualify for an exemption this year). We are not mortgaged, so have no obligation to insure our property. Our only utility bills are for mobile phone, starlink, esb and of course vehicle expenses.... Hope that helps

This q&a video shows what natural genuine lovely people you are and such honest answers to the queries. It's great to hear ye get our beautiful country. Some people move here, and they do not make the effort to take time to get to know the locals and to settle in. It's so nice to hear you say the cleanliness here stands out and so sad to hear of litter in parts of other countries. Ireland is not perfect but being biased ( born and bred here ), I will say it is a very special place. There is some kind of magic here..its in the air and all around..if people can see that, then they will be happy here...ye can see it. People here are friendly and helpful but are clued in and will not suffer fools gladly. It works both ways..if your a nice person, people will be nice back and will help where they can. It's so great your daughter has settled well..she is happy yer happy. Ye have a lot of work ahead but the result will be wonderful. The place seems to have a nice peaceful feeling about it..ye felt that day one. Ye will have a gorgeous home here. Few years time ye will be more Irish than the Irish. Genuinely welcome home cos its home for ye now. P.s ye will have great times ahead discovering this gorgeous country. Get working first on the homestead...the touring will wait.😂. Corkonian.

I think your both doing a great job. Enjoyable to watch. KZbin is like watching a tv show and some viewers get too impatient on what's going to happen next. They want all the answers upfront. I would just keep doing what you are doing. Let us tune in and wait to see what happens next. We have the basic premise, and we watch to see how it unfolds. Many youtubers use the Patreon in part to give sneak peaks etc. of what's ahead for the impatient views.

Thank you too! btw: In Europe, fluoride is currently added to drinking water only in Ireland and in some regions of Spain and the UK in concentrations of between 0.2 and 1.2 mg per litre. Chloride seems to be added in every mains water, yet in some countries you can't taste the tiny amounts like in Switzerland, Austria, Germany. In Cork City, where my sons live) and here in West Cork the mains water tastes heavily of swimming pool water (plus the fluoride) I consider it as a serious health hazard - especially for children. I am super grateful having a deep well with good tasting water, that's my privilege (better than a posh car or the newest fashion!). I too love my compost toilet (I had it for some years in a tiny house, considering of placing it beside my regular loo in my new-ish house, as I need humanure and seaweed to fertilise the poor soil around it).
@offgridirishhomestead4 ай бұрын
Hi Eliane, thank you for your continued support. We value it a great deal. Interesting re: flouride, seems it is not as wide spread as we thought. We have heard the debate rave on for years in Britain, and made the assumption that municipal supplies were doing so under central government directive which was common among all EU countries. Strangely (but thankfully) that isn't the case. With IRL being one of the biggest proponents and also an outlier on a global level with their enforcement of flouride water supplies. As you say we are privileged not to be subject to the whims of a central government. After living with the composting loo now for 6months, I have only just started to realise the potential for good that can come from humanure. Closing the waste system loop is a no-brainer in my opinion. Hope to have a field of fruit and nut trees which will benefit from its otherwise wasted nutrients. Great to hear of another proponent of it's benefits!

Could you install a wind generator for electricity, or solar panels to off set the electricity costs and maybe sell your excess back to the grid?
@offgridirishhomestead2 ай бұрын
We are definitely in a viable location for wind power. The problem is the return on investment is no where near that of solar PV, so it is hard to justify. Definitely looking to install a large solar PV system at some point. Selling back to the grid comes with a level of bureaucracy which we seek to avoid.

You mentioned Justin Rhodes' chick shaw and wintertime. If I remember the episode correctly, I believe they put their chickens and chick shaw into their greenhouse for their winters, which are nothing like ours here in Maine LOL.

Just a question,why dont you get a awning for the caravan as it would double your space?
