On the parents being told, it amazes me how African parents are with their emotions. I learned with my son that many African parents don't show happiness. They exhibit love. My son is adopted and we got him after a week and when I told my parents that we were taking him in, my parents were completely detached and acted like I'd told them I was buying chicken instead of beef. So I didn't think anything of it because i figured they wouldn’t see him as a grandchild so I tried to move on. Two weeks later I get up, and my parents are at my door with heaps and heaps of baby stuff, from clothes to toys to food and they started getting involved with him and that's their youngest grandchild. When we are at home in the villages, my son and stepdad are joined at the hip and that's taught me a lot about African parents and their emotions. They don't show happiness. They think of how they can make things best for that childs life and I think that's so beautiful.

I get your emotions about upbringing.I had no relationship with my dad and for the first few years as parents I would cry every time I see how hubby fathers our children its a constant reminder of what I missed but of late I get so grateful that they have him and I get to see it❤

I'm glad we are talking more about breastfeeding not coming so naturally for every woman😪 my daughter totally refused to breastfeed, no one could believe this, but each time I tried giving her the breast she would cry and was not patient with the milk not coming. Yes I was assisted by a senior nurse in a private clinic for 2 days, but baby refused. So yeah I gave up trying, I went for formula and had a very health baby who is 12 years now.

You not alone sis... even nurses couldnt help me...the little we pumped that is 30ml max...she would vomit it...there after it stopped just water coming...I was soo sad, while other ladies were sharing how they lactated even weeks befor putting to birth

Our parents really did what they knew best! apparently if they showed they were proud they believed we would be arrogant.Bona they boast when around their friend but Mna personally I appreciate how my own mom is unlearning and learning to tacitly say ''umhle mntanami/you did well /usebenzile Mandunakazi" I hope we do right by our kids.They deserve better!We need to express ourselves better thina to our own kids. Oooh Sisi, I couldn't have said this any better. Our parents really did what they thought is right. Not knowing it wasn't right. My mom is also currently unlearning alot and I appreciate that so much from her. I'm 31 now and she's 60 and our relationship has become so strong and closer. She's learning how to be open and I'm also letting her into my space. I think as we grow older and start to understand some things better, we're better able to forgive our parents for their actions in the past ♥

Thanx for been vulnerable on the aspect of childhood.I equally don't have any pleasant memories of my childhood.Till now whenever I think or talk about it I find myself crying.It has traumatized me so much that I am scared to have my own kids.To some extent am glad that am unmarried at 31 because marriage will force me to have kids for the sake of my partner.You look so beautiful,all the best in the next journey of your life as a couple.You are gonna be great parents.

I honestly can't thank you enough for doing this video. As an expecting Mom, I struggle with anxiety and worry. Listening to you speak about the power of speaking over your life and your unborn baby really spoke to my inner man. It's only been 4 months into my pregnancy and yoh it's been a lot, ang'funi ukungasho. But I am so grateful everyday for the honor and the opportunity to carry this child 18 years later since my first child. Yho that issue of our parents being unable to show their emotions is just messed up hey. Im 32 now and when I graduated years back I remember my Dad threw a huge graduation party but if If i tell u that the speech he made had nothing about me at all. He legit spoke about how he was happy he managed to gather his family etc etc. i passed my degree with a distinction and not once dd he acknowledge this. Even when I get him gifts he hardly says anything about it, he will just say ok take it to my room

Yho Nozi with unexpressive parents, my mom was and I have chosen to be different with my children. This one time though, I was driving home with a small baby, exclusively breast feeding, so the journey was longer, and the weather got bad. Heard nothing from my mother throughout the 2-day journey. I called xa ndikufutshane ekhaya, uba "Hayibo, not even a call? to wish us safe journey. She replied and said "Been praying and worried sick for your travel since you started the journey."

I got help in dealing with my mama too from TDJakes. When you are dealing with a 3gallon person and you are a 10litre gallon, you will get all 3 gallons, but they will not fulfill you. Understand that some people though they love you with all they have, it will not fulfill you for the level at which you are. Not that at 10 you are better or more, just that you are different.

Yhoo on the part of your mom not being able to fully express how she feels, I struggled with that with my mom until I started high school and understood that she is genuinely happy but lacks showing the emotions. Another thing is how she used to throw or sweep the happy birthday/ Mother’s Day paper cards I used to make ndibe sad ndiyeke kanti uSisi uphethwe yiOCD akasenzi naye. Ngoku I let her be knowing very well that she is happy just in her own way😅

Share the sentiments that breastfeeding does not always coming naturally for all moms… One thing I looked forward to and wanted to do so bad was to breastfeed. It literally broke me when I had little to no supply and my baby would scream every time I put her on the boob… A month and a half later, I finally accepted and stopped mixed feeding. The most painful thing for me, but you know what we have a healthy and happy 1 year old now and that’s all that matters.
