I'm about to embark on a new community for my customers. Your whole Q&A was really helpful because you are where I aim for my future! I also really get the not wanting to offend people. I'm in the marriage space and deal with therapist so it's extra dicey and scary... they have all the extra fancy words when they get angry or upset!! haha It's so validating to see you also deal with the murkiness of various topics. :-)

One thing I'm realizing about what I choose to watch on KZbin is that no matter the subject matter, I need to enjoy who is presenting it. I honestly don't care WHAT you're talking about. This is so true! I’ve recently seen a couple other KZbinrs that I follow kind of talk about the variety…or lack thereof…of topics on their channel and they said that if they don’t post certain topics or use certain keywords, the YT algorithm just buries their videos. Personally, with the KZbin personalities that I love enough to follow & subscribe to, I will watch literally every video they put out, and I like having some variety…not just ALL decluttering bc it’s branded as a minimalism channel or whatever.

Boy, is that true! Even though I found it a little jarring when I turned 60 (I'm now 63; took early retirement at 62), the sheer relaxation that I ended up feeling as a result of achieving so much life experience was wonderful. I could finally let go of unrealistic life goals and focus on the ones I really could achieve (many more than I had realized after I let go of the unrealistic ones), as well as interests I could reactivate after they had gone dormant for decades. I feel freer now and more creative than I have in many years, although I must admit it's taken me a year of being retired in order to fully detox from work-based life and settle into a life entirely based on me-time (I'm single with no family, in case that sounded selfish).

We are planning to adopt them and she's pregnant with another that is due in March that we will end up with as well. Our biological kids are 23 and 21, so we're essentially starting over.

I am an adoptive mom of two siblings from Sierra Leone. I was 50 when I adopted the 1st at 8.5 yrs old. 60 when we finally got his 16 yr old brother, and I was a widow by then. Best decisions I ever made. Adopt based on your age. Those older children are totally worth it and very focused on their new opportunity. Bless you and any one considering older children. They are a known proposition, much less a mystery than an infant!

I'm 54 and I thought I was too old to adopt. I know I would have to adopt, and older child and I worry about all the problems they will have. You didn't experience a lot of issues with an older child?
@carolwinter3092
@carolwinter3092 Жыл бұрын
Jennifer Brown is right, these kids can have serious struggles. The caution is to keep your eyes and ears open and know what you are willing to deal with. My point is that just as a both child can develop serious issues, so can an adoptive child. But with an older child, you get a look. With a birth child, you take lots of additional risks. Children are a leap of faith either way.

Greetings from Germany! 🙋‍♀️ It is very interesting to see and hear about your normal every day life because it is different in so many ways to our "normal" in Germany- especially homeschooling, which is not allowed here, but our school-system is totally different too. But there is so much more different, e.g. the cooking, baking, traveling... So everyone has different perspectives and believes. I love to get a small view into your life and chance to "look over the edge of my plate" (german saying 😉). People all over the world love you and appreciate your work. Thank you for all that, especially your honesty and kindness. ❤❤❤

I've been homeschooling for 7 years now. Every single person that I know personally that was against homeschooling, has since told me how grateful they are that I am. One of those people even asked if I would be willing to school their grandchild just to keep them out of public schools. I have found that most who are against homeschooling are against it because they are uneducated about it. It has been a huge blessing to my family!

I will also comment again and say that I do really think that middle schoolers and highschoolers need their moms and dads around just as much as when they’re toddlers and babies. It’s just for different reasons. I think a lot of parents think when their kids are older they can do a lot more stuff and be out of the house more and not see their kids, but your presence is definitely needed just as much. I say this as a mom of a 14-year-old, 11 year old, four-year-old, and eight month old,

Yes, I am one that clicks “like” for all your videos. ❤ It is so good when you have said things like “we only have the things that serve us well”. And if you use it-keep it. So what if you have a lot of apps. If they make your life better who cares if it isn’t considered “minimal”. Doing what’s right for you and your family is so much more important than fitting yourself into a term for others!!

I quilted on the longarm while I listened to you. I just want to share how much you changed my life. While I've been a Flybaby for over 20 years (Flylady system) that got the house in order, but as Marla says, "You can't organize clutter." After I retired from the military, I stopped purging our things each time we moved and oh my, the STUFF! But I've gone room by room, closet by closet, and drawer by drawer. Do I miss any of it? Nope. But more than teaching me to declutter, you've taught me lessons on how to deal with stuff as it comes into our home. I still have loads more stuff than a minimalist (I'll never be one), but it's all manageable for us now. And thanks to you, I discovered Cass and Dara and they have helped me as well. You're an angel! So Merry Christmas and thank you for everything!

Talk about under-selling and over-delivering! I purchased the Bundt Cake Book in the description to support Dorothy's work with women and kids in Mexico, thinking from Dawn's comment in this video that it might be a typed 2 to 3-page handout with Dawn's favorite bundt cake recipe and no images. Turns out it's a beautiful, 49-page love letter to Bundts!!! ; - D The cute photos are so inspiring, and the recipes combine store-bought cake mix and pudding mix with creative add-ins and scratch ingredients for ease and convenience. And just like Dawn, the writing and graphic design are cheerful and inspiring. So impressive! I never know if Dawn ever sees these comments--especially on older videos--but this was such a nice surprise, and such a kind thing for her to do to help support a woman doing good work in the world. You are so amazing. My daughter bought me your decluttering devotional and I started watching your videos. You are such a blessing. I have gotten rid of so much stuff. I feel so much peace and closer to God. I have also started watching Diana videos. She is also a great gift from God. Please stop saying that you aren't cool. Because you are what you keep saying about your self. So speak great things into your life. I am 63, and have wasted so much of my life.... But God still has a plan and life is good.

It was so awesome that you mentioned how you see other points of view when you get feedback different from what you are doing. I’m a decade older than you and I wish I’d started realizing this when I was your age. The more I experience life, the more I understand that any opinion I have most likely has a very valid opposing idea. Having these different points of view makes life more interesting and being open to hearing ideas other than our own allows us to learn tolerance, understanding, and compassion.

I look forward to every Minimal Mom video. I will miss having 2 a week, but maybe I will get more Decluttering done. Lol. Because, well, I’m old school, and I can’t seem to figure out how to work or do other things while the video is playing. To me, it’s like TV, I have to watch. I want to see your expressions, whatever you are doing, whatever’s going on around you. I will probably end up joining one of the private groups. I would love to lead a group in Decluttering By Faith, but I have not yet figured out how to approach people about minimalism. Hopefully soon, people will see the changes I have made, and be interested in knowing how to get started. ❤️🙏🏻❤️

On the topic of painting our nails, ask your healthcare provider (dermatologist) if it is healthy for you/your nails. There are a variety of persons on this topic, but people have to find what works for them and what works this month might not the next month. We feel good when we look our best and that beauty is a perception. Regarding the birds, the colorful ones are male. Money-fund college funds for your children, children from your high school. It is as important to make new friends as it is to let go of friends. Do a video on how to help kids understand the lifestyle, as in how they can live that way. It is such a big time and money savings in life.

Hey Dawn! I know how time consuming video editing is but I just want to say that I think a longer (30-60+ minutes) live (and therefore unedited) video every now and then would be greatly appreciated! I personally think it would be great to see a live organizing or decluttering video where you encourage us at the beginning to do it with you (I always put on your longer videos when I am organizing or decluttering). Just an idea! :)

I find it ironic that you think that you need to get more click-bait-y with your video titles. There’ve been a couple lately that I’ve skipped because I was concerned about what might be in there, and I almost didn’t watch today’s video because the title sounded like it might not be appropriate for my family, which God built through adoption. My opinion: stay true to who you are! Your channel has grown to the success you currently enjoy because of your wholesome content. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! We love you!!!❤

We have a newly turned 13 year old girl who came to our home about a month ago. Currently we have 9 (usually 10) in our home! It’s pretty crazy around here 🤪 BUT my husband even questioned the other day, when only 2 kids were home and it was super quiet, about what are we going to do when all the kids leave the house. This is our 8th and oldest foster child and it’s nothing like I thought it would be. She’s great and not scary at all!

I’m and “old mom” who adopted a baby at 40. Having a teen in my 50’s was stressful and much harder than if I had been younger and that stress impacted my health. As usual, your judgement is sound and thoughtful. I didn’t know I wouldn’t have my normal resilience after menopause so it’s great that you remind people about age and energy levels. So many kids deserve a safe environment to grow up in and the older ones often get left behind.

For example, I'm probably old enough to be your mom, I don't have any kids other than my fur babies, I live in the desert southwest, I'm single, and my spirituality is different from yours. But, other than all of that 🙂, I so relate to your lifestyle in terms of the elements that have sometimes been part of mine and the grounding that you have, which is part of my own life. Dawn, I just want to share that as a parent of a 25 year old and twins age 20, if I could have homeschooled them I would have in a heartbeat. One of them especially has taken with him some things learned at school into adulthood that seriously tear me up. I’m a Christian and he has went WAY out into some beliefs that do NOT align at all with our faith. He learned they were okay while at public school. I know this will not be a popular comment but I don’t care. Just wanted to tell you my experience. I think there is a lot of not good stuff taught in public schools.

Homeschoolers are definitely used to being attacked, whether the other person intends to be hurtful or not. Choosing something that is not mainstream can leave others feeling like we are judging them for choosing the mainstream, even though we aren’t making our choices based on what our neighbors do. It can absolutely go the other way sometimes too, with some homeschoolers attacking public schoolers, but the ratio is overwhelmingly the other direction. Literally even cashiers at the grocery store can be judgmental when we are out with kids during school hours. I prefer to deal with it by assuming that the questions and comments are coming from a place of genuine curiosity, since it frequently is. When the person is clearly aggressive towards our life choices, I still try to respond as though they are asking from interest, since it tempers my replies with kindness and often takes them off guard.

When it comes to big events, fundraising and things that require a lot of sweat and energy in addition to planning, I found that when you delegate, you get more done. Ask for volunteers in your church, ask for friends and family members if they can contribute some time, equipments, materials and money if at all possible. Plan out what it will look like after everything is done. Do this months or a year or 2 in advance. Research resources just to get as much info as possible and if you can pay to do some things even better. If not, designate time for each task. Buy things ahead of time, even if more things become available latter on. Colors, designs are seasonal. Once they are gone, they are gone. Better be safe than sorry. If they come back better, you can always add to update. Constantly, hold meetings to keep volunteers motivated and see the progress they have made. As much as people want to do something, not everyone goes all the way to the end, if any. I speak from experience. Hope this tips will help.

Tons of designs and with a clear coat of polish on top, they last two weeks. No, I don't work for them -- just really love them. This way you can find another thing to splurge on instead!!
